A good, all american family movie to sit down and eat popcorn together with and anything else that comes to mind.

I understand the thread. Elf is not very manly at all and The Man with two Brains is so stupid that its funny. I know lots of guys that think those two movies suck.

Actually, it's Pitt Gorilla who doesn't understand the thread. The thread is titled "Movies you're embarrassed to like", not "bad movies you like".

Nothing wrong with those, two hot redheads (Ringwald/Lohan) in their primes. Lohan only looked better in Herbie Fully Loaded. Put that in my list of embarressing movies, and Mean Girls has a beavy of hotties, Mc Adams/ Chebert/ Fey. Kudos!

Dick Tracy - but I'm proud of that, and not very guilty about it
Battlefield Earth isn't THAT bad
Anything by Ed Wood
10 Things I Hate About You
Just One of the Guys
Opportunity Knocks

"Knocks" rules, very funny, "I am talking, you do not talk when I, am talking!"

Nah...Sam got dubbed by an unknown voice actor.

From wikipedia: "Max von Sydow (Ming) received a good deal of praise for his performance, despite Jones (Gordon) being nominated for a Golden Raspberry for worst lead actor. According to Empire magazine, Sam J. Jones had troubles of some sort with the director, which resulted in almost all of his dialogue being dubbed by a professional voice actor whose identity is still a mystery."

Those titles should not be embarrasing to you.

Embarrassing to you, would be "typical guy movies"

Interesting. I'm surprised that hasn't made it to IMDB.

I guess that would be my favorite bad movie, but I really don't consider it bad. Just cheesy and silly. With great special effects and DEnise Richards.

You should read the book. One of Heinlein's best. The movie is a steaming pile of shit in comparison. On its own the movie is OK. What they did to that story that RAH wrote...let's just say that I've seen gentler ****ings in snuff films.

listopencil 03-20-2008 07:36 PM

Oh yeah...I happen to love Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the original Willie Wonka movie.

chefsos 03-20-2008 07:57 PM

Ghost.
Not so much embarrassed by the movie itself, but by the fact that, every time I've seen it, something got in my eye...

For the Love of the Game. It's actually the only DVD I own. I still don't understand why people buy DVD's. It's not like you watch them more than once. I only bought that movie because it was in the 5 dollar bin at Wal-Mart and I was bored.

I love the baseball scenes in that flick. Everything else blows...

Fortunately, the baseball scenes make up at least half of the movie.

Rain Man 03-20-2008 10:11 PM

I'm embarrassed that I laugh at parts of the Police Academy movies.

Yeah, but I'm not one of those Harlequinn romance females. I'd prefer to watch any NFL game than Oprah or soap operas any day.

I don't do guy moves because I hate the 'shoot em up' mentality...

Sponge Bob 03-23-2008 05:58 PM

Sponge Bob Squarepants ?

I think every one is missing the meaning of embarrassed to like.
I saw only a couple movies listed that I think would fall into that category.
One was Titanic.
Mine is the Wizard of Oz.
I get razzed mercilessly about liking that movie.

DeepPurple 03-26-2008 09:22 AM

In recent years it would be Napolean Dynamite and Donnie Darko. Going back a few years, it would be Titanic, Forrest Gump and The Crying Game. Going much further back it would be The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind. My wife loves GWTW and everytime it's on TV we have to watch it.

You're right. That is the "spirit" of the thread. But everything morphs. The only one in my list that doesn't qualify as "embarrassed to like" is Dick Tracy. Although, I continually have to defend myself when I say I like it.

But... yeah, I'm a little ashamed of the others.
