Shox 01-23-2009 05:02 PM

Clark is spending the money.....$70 million in unforseen stadium upgrades.....Pioli.....and now Shanny. Both of these guys got premium money to come the Chiefland. Lamar is turning over in his grave, RIP.

Petro getting play on ESPN News right now...

Donger 01-23-2009 05:02 PM

Mortensen says that things have moved fast in the last 24 hours. Negotiating.

Bearcat 01-23-2009 05:03 PM

Mort on SportsCenter: 2 sources say negotiations have picked up in the last 24 hours with Shanahan, and hoping to close the deal (didn't say when).

kstater 01-23-2009 05:03 PM

JFC, Mort implying Jack Harry is the source of the info.

Cannibal 01-23-2009 05:03 PM

Evidently Clark Hunt wants to do something more than just fill seats.

Mort is the only person who has shown any indications of having a source in the Chiefs organization. I'll go with him for now.

Crennel as DC, Chan as OC with Shanahan returning to be just a coach with Pioli running the draft and free agency?

I'll take that.

DeezNutz 01-23-2009 05:07 PM

Gonzo coming up on SportsCenter. Will likely claim that the Rat is the greatest coach ever and that he'll have the team headed in the right direction. Next year likely to be greatest Chief team ever.

Mr. Laz 01-23-2009 05:10 PM

kevin Harlan reporting that Shannarat likes Pioli and told a friend that "the only person i would work for this year is Scott Pioli"

this was said BEFORE pioli left new england to work for KC

OnTheWarpath15 01-23-2009 05:11 PM

Kevin Harlan:

"I talked to someone that spoke to Mike Shanahan before he went on vacation."

Shanahan to that source:

"The ONLY person I'd work for this early after being fired in Denver is Scott Pioli."

siberian khatru 01-23-2009 05:12 PM

Your move, Schefter.

SDChief 01-23-2009 05:12 PM

maybe Shefter is taking the fall now putting up a smoke screen for a good inside source with the rat later on???

Slowik will be on the staff. Shanahan has been actively looking for assistants.

Per Slowik's agent.

These fired assistants have to be looking for work, and it has something to do with compensation from Bowlen.

Harlan not sure about the legalities.

These guys need evidence they are looking for work to earn complete compensation from Bowlen, could they be using the Chiefs?

Harlan doesn't think so.

Bwana 01-23-2009 05:17 PM

NOTHING said about what that position would be.

ESPN changed from "negotiations" to "targeting".

Looks like Schefter's in the lead...

papasmurf 01-23-2009 05:27 PM

Heard Chiefs wanted interview Haley but that ticket invoices are scheduled to go out next week and they wanted to have a coach before then. In fear that a lot of ticket holders wouldn't renew.

dirk digler 01-23-2009 05:27 PM

According to a league source, and contrary to a published report, Bob Slowik has not been hired by the Lions to coach the defensive backs and a hiring is not imminent. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said on Wednesday that he expects to move fairly quickly in filling out his defensive staff but, other than coordinator Gunther Cunningham, the Lions haven't hired anyone yet.

kysirsoze 01-23-2009 05:27 PM

One good thing about the Pioli Shanahan team up is we might finally get a little national coverage from the coastal-biased as hell sports media.

If he was just a Broncos coach, that would be one thing. But he's also a cheater who has screwed the Cheifs over and had a hand in some of the most painful Chiefs moments in the last 20 years.

2bikemike 01-23-2009 05:37 PM

Wow this thread is smoking. Its hard to freaking believe and I am not sure how I feel about this. I have always held Shannahan in such disdain.

Well hopefully with Pioli being the GM and Shanny concentrating on coaching football maybe we can finally make it back to the promised land in my lifetime.

This is going to take some getting used to though.

Johnny Vegas 01-23-2009 05:43 PM

seriously I've hated the rat since he first came in to Denver. I find it very hard to have a guy who has played against the Chiefs for so long and roll in here like no hard feelings. I guess people hated Herm during his time here so I guess I'll choose the boat where all the haters will be. It'd be like Belichick leaving the Patriots for the Jets. Jets fans would start a riot.
