Who the hell are you to start asking such questions? Apparently in Billings, people nose through their neighbors wallets to make sure nobody is making any profit. Damned busybody. |

Why in the world do you believe that anyone has any sort of financial accountability to you? Frigging nutcase... http://www.penguin.com.au/covers-jpg/9781846462825.jpg |
Technically all the money sent to Kyle is invested back into this BB.
Right? |

I'm sure w/ all the software/hardware needed to keep up this place he doesn't turn a profit at all. And I guarantee you there is no way that we donate $12,000 a year to him. No way at all. |
Quote:
Now you're throwing around accusations? You're just going to assume that Kyle doesn't pay income tax? Should he send you his tax forms and get an a-ok from you before he files? What nerve you have! They don't grow them in Montana like they used to, do they? In Idaho, people minded their own business. I always imagined that's the way things were in Montana, but watching this spectacle pretty well dispels that notion. Apparently we've got the profit police operating out there. |

No way in hell. People talk a good game when it comes to donating, but he'll be lucky to break even. I just can't believe the nerve some people have that they want to start nosing into the financials. This place is pretty cut and dried. You either like it, and want to donate, or you don't. I don't see where Kyle has any need to start running open books so that the profit police can be appeased. |
Quote:
Unfortunately, no. It goes to monthly server and yearly software costs... plus the occasional hardware upgrade. (boring I know...) |
Quote:
I highly doubt that the donations really amount to all that much money though, probably not even enough to run the servers. |

If this place stopped working tomorrow any of us would be a little peeved that we didn't have our meeting place anymore. I'm sure Donations help a little bit, but you shouldn't question the man who lets us have this place to talk to eachother every day. |

Yeah, God forbid that Kyle gets compensated for his effort for the service he provides. |

I tried donating, but Paypal won't accept my debit card.

honestly think though if that kind of money flowed through imagine the possibilities he can do for the site. I think he's tapped into everything that makes it functional and I definitely love the Casino. What could be done more? |
Every once in a while (I think twice since I've been here [Nov 2006]) there will be a CP Fundraiser if something huge is happening, but when there isn't one of those, I'm sure that not much money is donated.
|
Most people who have "powers" donated long before this function was ever added. So, if it changes your perception of the planet, feel free to kick it online somewhere else.

Actually the only reason I donated was so I could have a bolded name.

And ftr, the first time Kyle ever asked for donations since I've been here was when he upgraded the servers last year. I'm sure he operated this place at a loss for years. |

On a side note... I would love for the site to pay for itself with unodtrusive ads... BUT that isn't very viable since the point of an ad is to be noticed... and I don't want the site junked up with noticable ads...
The other option would be to have sponsers (i.e. the official ticket broker of CP, or the official USB butt warmer of CP...) but that is a route I have never had the time or energy to pursue... but regardless, don't expect the site to go to any kind of "premium" model or get junked up with ads anytime soon... I'll launch RaidersPlanet.com if I want to annoy the members.... |

Not to tell you what to do, but if you enjoy your time here, it might be a nice thing to donate even $5. Any little amount helps I'm sure. |

I don't want this little tiff to spill over either. I've never gotten into an argument w/ you before on any other topic, I hope to keep it that way. |
I think it should be tied into rep somehow as well personally...make it mean something.
That way the people that are asswipes all the time are vulnerable to people with supporter more, but people that are here long enough with a decent enough rep are more shielded from someone just getting a hankering to take a bad day out on someone. |
