I dont expect this to be the case. Even if he did though, its not that big of a deal. Hes more talented than Bob Sanders and plays like hes 6'2 anyways. He lined up at Nickel when he picked off Tebow saturday. I thought it was brilliant because he was actually covering the outside receiver the whole time when Berry lined up over the slot receiver, Tebow expected his Z receiver to be open. Tebow threw it into the ground and Berry had the quickness to dive at the ball and pick it off. Mays needs to be healthy first of all or else Berry is the best safety in the 2010 draft if he comes out. But, dont think so fast on Berry coming into the 2010 draft everybody. Berry is very happy with Monte Kiffin as his defensive mentor/coordinator. Theyve had a great relationship and that just might make Berry want to stick around for another year. Berry has his head on his shoulders very well.

And Monte has said he would pick him #1 overall in the 2010 draft. I fully expect him to come out this year.

I think this may be an overstatement. But, he won't come in at 5'9" so it doesn't really matter anyway.

You really think so? He's listed as 5'11 1/2 or 1.82 M.

But even if he was I still would strongly believe that he would be a first round pick. Hes got more to offer than Alphonso Smith and Brandon Flowers and they both were top end 2nd round pick DB's. I think Berry is a lock for the first round no matter what draft he goes in.

Mecca 09-21-2009 11:14 PM

Ok if he comes in at 5'9 he won't be a top 15 pick, better?

Well, clearly you are ready to declare a winner after only two weeks in that discussion. Shocker.

Still think he would be top 15, but at least that isn't as outlandish as saying he wouldn't be a first rounder.

Mecca 09-21-2009 11:16 PM

The NFL gets extremely enamored by size and numbers as the season ends and workouts for the draft begin.

At 5'11 he's a bit undersized but it's ok, at 5'9 there are teams that would go yea to small.

I have to say though. As far as the Chiefs are concerned. Mays fits KC better than Berry would. The 3-4 strives on big physical safeties. Mays would fit the 3-4 almost perfectly.

Either way 2 inches would cost him million of dollars, Tennessee is usually pretty good about putting the correct size on their guys.

If he was playing at say Texas I'd know he was smaller than his size they listed Roy Williams at 6'3 then on draft day he magically became 6'1..or how Tech had Crabtree ridiculously over listed.

 I thought that was funny as well. Crabtree was a midget compared to what he was listed as.

"Cost" or "denied"? :D

If KC picks either of these guys it will come down to who plays smarter and makes the least mistakes.

Not necessarily. Pats took Meriweather and Chung early and both are closer to Berry in size than Mays.

Berry is listed right around the same size as Ed Reed and Polamalu

Let's just say we do not get either of these two guys. Talk in this thread from nflcountdown is that the safety position may be one of the deepest positions in the draft in the early rounds. Are any of these other guys worthy of discussion (say for an early 2nd round pick), or is this merely a two horse race?

kepp 09-22-2009 07:15 AM

I watched a replay of UF/Tenn last night and Berry was EVERYWHERE. I'd rather we get him than Mays.

To me, it's a 2 horse race. Our safeties aren't good by any means but unless one of them is far and away a better prospect than the rest of the field we do have needs that are more glaring than safety. Berry and Mays are just that good of prospects that you get them when you can.

ferrarispider95 09-22-2009 10:40 AM

I was all about mays, but I am leaning toward berry now. I thought he looked good in the florida game. Still a lot of season left to see how it shakes out.

I think measurables are important, but the playmaking ability on the field and production trumps it. Also USC has a lot more defensive talent around him, or at least last year you had 3 linebackers almost go in the first round. Tennessee is not a slouch, but I don't think they have near the players.

They said sproles was too small and they said brees was too short

Coogs 10-04-2009 09:50 AM

Both of these guys were on TV last night, but I didn't get to see either one due to other obligations. Did either one do anything noteworthy?

The Bad Guy 10-04-2009 09:54 AM

Mays made an outstanding, and I mean outstanding play on Jevan Best one-on-one in the flat. It was an incredible play.

That said, give me Berry. He's just as good of a tackler with better coverage ability.

Mr. Laz 10-04-2009 09:57 AM

I say Berry almost miss a half-assed shoulder bump tackle along the sidelines against Auburn last night.

Berry got his ass handed to him in that game

I think we're arguing about a smoking hot blond and a smoking hot brunette in this thread.

Ah...the meaning of life.

salame 10-04-2009 10:40 AM

do you see how much bigger mays looks than everyone else on the field
its kind of like how big Adrian Peterson looks out there

Mecca 10-06-2009 04:52 AM

Here we go...

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/f8_Sxcz_DxY&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/f8_Sxcz_DxY&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

At 13 seconds Mays gets a pick and at 59 seconds he runs with Jahvid Best to the sideline and throws him out of bounds with 1 arm...

Not to mention he's doing this on a bum knee.
