Seriously, I understand. I'll tone it down. Like I have said before, I root for KC teams only when they aren't playing the Cards and Rams. KC is a great town (Gates, yum). It's in good fun.

Rip on them at your leisure, but you'd better be good at it.

A few of them have some teeth, you'd be better quick on your feet.

The rest of them (you can usually figure them out based on some combination of 'Hawk' or 'Jay' in their name) are pretty much a pack of simpering plebians who exist to be prodded. They're kind of like cattle that way.

Waino on the mound tonight.

I watched this show on Fox Sports Midwest last night, Cardinal Classics. It was the Central division clincher from last year. Both teams need the win. Coors field is a playoff atmosphere because the Rockies need the win to make the playoffs. Waino was nails. He's at 120 pitches or so, top of the 8th, Waino is operating on fumes. Looks like he's done. 1st and 2nd with one out. Larussa leaves him in. He strikes out the next two batters, including Giambi looking on a wicked curve that reminded me of that one he threw to Beltran. He comes off the mound yelling like a football player, showing some emotion, pretty rare in baseball. Thats one of my favorite memories of last year.

Carpenter's primal scream in mid-July was pretty badass. I don't remember the situation, but he just put his fists down and pretty much roared coming off the mound. Dude was pumped and I can't say I've ever seen that from Carp.

I have it on tape.

That was a great game, easily the greatest of the year.

He's quickly establishing himself as a big-game pitcher.

Miles 04-07-2010 09:10 PM

Nice to see that Franklin didn't shit himself again tonight.

Rasmus is also building on his great spring. It is extremely early but that lineup could be very deadly if Rasmus has a breakout year.

Just watched Chris Perez close a game for Cleavland and he looked pretty solid.

You should have put the card logo in front of him, and all the rest out on the front porch, and tell him he can pick, but if he has to go outside the door might be locked when he tries to come back in.

Most people are stuck with their teams they had as kids, for better or worse. Nothing worse in fandom than a bandwagon fan.

Although my son grew up in KC, we had no ties to the area before the move other than my love of the Chiefs. I grew up in Springfield listening to Jack Buck and Harry Carey on KMOX radio. Don Glass is about my age and grew up in Springfield too about 1/2 mile from my house.

My son is a 5th generation Cardinals fan that has already got to see his team win a World Championship live. That'll hook you as a fan.:thumb:

We had a blast wearing our Cardinals gear all around Chicago a couple of weekends ago on vacation. It's too bad the Royals never moved to the Central when they had a chance. It could have made for a good long time riviraly.

I bet you would be drawing more fans to the ballpark and increasing your revenue in the process to allow you to compete.

Frazod 04-08-2010 10:06 AM

Look at the competition in the NL Central. Other than St. Louis, you have:

1. The Cubs. I mean, they're the Cubs. They could have a billion dollar payroll and still suck.
2. The Asstros. Much like Cleveland, they have completely imploded. I don't know if they'll get back to where they were a few years ago. And since I hate them, I certainly hope not.
3. The Reds. Getting better, but always with glaring weaknesses. I can't remember the last time they made the playoffs.
4. The Pirates. Enough said.
5. The Brewers. Would still be in the AL Central had KC switched.

Yeah, I just saw that. I guess he gave up the homer to the first batter he faced. Nice job by LaRussa as well - apparently he's the only person on earth who doesn't realize Motte sucks. 4321

Sounds like Penny had a pretty good first game for us, though. No offense today, unfortunately.

meh, no need to jump off any cliffs yet. Offense is going to have off days but over 162 games we are going to rock and roll.

It's great that Penny had a good first game. He's really important come playoff time. If he is the old Penny come playoff time, with our offense and a rotation of Carp, Waino, the old Penny...we'd be dealing.

We have some games to figure out a closer. I like Kyle getting the first shot. We can blow some games late and still win the Central. We need to have an established closer come October but its not crucial in April.

Frazod 04-08-2010 01:34 PM

I didn't realize they're in Milwaukee this weekend. Just got tickets to Saturday's game. :thumb:

DJ's left nut 04-08-2010 01:35 PM

If McClellan can handle the closer role, then Franklin goes back to the 8th inning job he's actually fairly well suited for. Boggs and the lefties could handle the 7th, Motte/Hawksworth can handle the 6th and mopup.

I wouldn't be opposed to sending Motte down and signing Springer. Tell Motte that he's going to get cut if he throws anything other than breaking balls in AAA. He can't just keep throwing that straight heat and rolling slider.

Chief Henry 04-08-2010 01:42 PM

Motte should be on a SHORT leash to start the season.

Frazod 04-09-2010 09:27 PM

Awesome win tonight! Trailing by 1 in the top of the 9th, down to the last strike, Stavinoha hits a two run pinch hit homer to take the lead. Franklin with the save.

Hope they keep up their winning ways when I go to the game tomorrow.

Miles 04-09-2010 09:37 PM

I watched some of the earlier parts of the game with the MLB Extra innings free preview and started watching something else when Lohse started getting knocked around a bit. Looks like I should have stuck with it.

Nice work Stavinoha. He was apparently hitting well this spring and it would be nice if he continues to be some power off the bench.

Also damn nice to see Holliday is continuing to tare shit up like he did for STL last season. I am still not the biggest fan of that contract but still very happy he didn't manage to leave both MLB teams I am a fan of.

Milwaukee was 3rd in the league against LHP last season.

Ryan Braun F'n mauls them.

He can be good and still get beat up tomorrow. I'm not going to judge him too harshly based on tomorrows start.

Well, I'd say we really stole one tonight. Only two starters (Holliday and Skip) got hits, everybody else was 0 forever until Stavinoha got up there. Lohse looked like crap, too.

Albert's been quite for the past couple of days. He's due to have a good game.

Yeah, I still hold a grudge from the playoffs not because of the dropped ball but that image of him eating sunflower seeds and his body language of (it looked like to me anyway) ohhh well, who cares...Then I see Brendon Ryan on the bench sitting there with his head in his hands like he is crushed by the loss.

But, maybe thats just Holliday's style. Those two home runs were pretty big hits this year and he was non-chalant about them also?

Marcellus 04-10-2010 02:50 PM

Frazod should enjoying himself. 7-0 Cards in the 6th with bombs from Yadi and Rasmus.

Nice enough first start by Garcia. His pitch count got up there a bit early but looks like he got the job done. Considering that he got hurt last year he is a pleasant surprise if he can at least be close to average.

Like you, I like what I am seeing from the young fill-ins so far. I also like that the team has broken camp with mostly cheap bench guys instead of bringing in overpriced and mediocre vets to fill those same roles. Ideally that should give a bit more flexibility if vets need to be acquired later.

Boggs in the pen is somewhat interesting. From what I saw last season his stuff is solid but his delivery is a bit suspect. In the pen he can dial it up for a few more MPH so maybe the change will work well for him.

Overall I am a hell of a lot more optimistic about this team than I was at the same time last year.

Taking Duncan, Ankiel and Thurston out of the line up and replacing them with Rasmus, Holliday and Freese is a big step forwad.

First win for a Cardinals left handed starter since Mulder in June 2006

He was hitting 96-97 on the Fox radar gun. He has much better stuff than Motte. He could be a real difference maker in the bullpen.

All great comments. I didn't mind Ankiel much before he injury last year but after that I had pretty much had enough with his flashes of greatness and guess hitting. Duncan was another that was a decent contributor even with his rough play in LF before his injury but after his back went out he was damn near useless. Thurston was the most useless of the lot but Glaus missing pretty much the entire year was another big disappointment.

I wasn't able to catch the game today because of the fox blackout for the extra innings preview which usually annoys me every year. Boggs hitting 96-97 is pretty impressive. Again it is extremely early in the year but Boggs may have the stuff to close if needed.

whoman69 04-10-2010 07:41 PM

Amazing stat about left handed starters.

Lohse might be a slow starter this year. I really think he was hurting more towards the end of the year than he let on. There might still be some issues there. I hope we have a contingency plan.

We also need some left handed hitting off the bench. Is it perhaps a ploy by Tony to avoid facing left handed specialty relievers? Sounds like something he would overthink.

Gotta love the guy who bats ahead of Braun and Fielder - the ****er made the third out of the inning three times IIRC, once with the bases loaded. And Braun and Fielder were a combined 0 for the day. :thumb:

Here's something to understand thier pain...The Cardinals will be playing meaningfull and entertaining baseball all season long, while the Royals trot out a lineup with Kendall, "Kid K"Ankiel, Getz, Betencourt...etc as regulars. It must be quite flustrating for them to see a Cardinal thread and read about guys like Pujols, Holliday, Rasmus, Carp, Wainwright, Molina....etc.

It's not all good and or okay for you to do nothing but drop in the thread out of the blue and call us homos and dopey bitches. What makes you think thats kosher?

Okay, at this point I'll take the loss and go.

I can't remember Carpenter elevating this obviously and this consistently in a long time. He's going to get absolutely crushed if he doesn't dial in quickly

And WTF is with Holliday's complete inability to not look like a total bitch against Randy MFing Wolf? K's looking with the bases loaded and none out in the playoffs. Popped up to 1b with men at 1st and 3rd and 1 down today. FFS, Holliday, he's a slop tossing lefty, how the hell can't you hit him?

Glad I went yesterday and not tonight. Pretty damned ugly so far. :shake:

Frazod 04-11-2010 07:01 PM

LMAO Fielder's throwing a ****ing Zambrano bitch fit in the dugout!

DJ's left nut 04-11-2010 07:04 PM

Oh for ****'s sake, Freese.

That's little league shit. Playing back on the ball and taking it off your hip. That's pathetic. Charge the ball and square up to it and that kind of garbage doesn't happen.

Freese grabs some pine tomorrow if I'm TLR. The shotput to second was a little bit of indecision biting a player; the 2nd error was just lazy.

And what the hell was Fielder doing? I'd be embarassed if I were a Brewers fan. That was pathetic.

(Wow, way to be Joe Mather...)

God I wish somebody would have just locked Rolen and LaRussa in a room and not let them come out until they'd got over their issues. Glaus sucked and this guy sucks worse.

Somehow Wolf is somehow quietly been an effective pitcher despite not have a lot going for him as far as his stuff.

Carp really needs to sharpen up tonight. Him getting knocked around is not what I expected to watch.

Freese will be fine.

I wouldn't trade Freese for Rolen and Rolen's contract right now. Rolen's defense is a little overrated at this point and his bat looks better than it is because he's in Cincy. His swing has gotten incredibly long.

Freese is better than this, he's just fighting the ball right now. Even his minor league track record pointed to a guy with a plus glove and that will translate to the major league level fairly faithfully.

Give Freese some time - you'll like the guy by mid-summer, IMO.

I like Wolf a lot.

But he's exactly the kind of guy that Holliday should hit. Holliday struggles with hard stuff because his swing requires him to get his arms extended. He has a little bit of a loop in it and that leg kick takes some time.

With junky lefties, Holliday should be able to crush them. They'll tend to stay away from the RH hitter and they won't have the hard stuff to tie him up. If there's anyone in baseball he should hit well, it's Randy Wolf. Instead he tends to take very tentative ABs and come up with some pretty epic fails.

Hamas' favorite player delivers with the HR.

Miles 04-11-2010 07:38 PM

Damn, Carpenter is just getting rocked on his mistakes.

Miles 04-11-2010 07:47 PM

Nice glove by lopez there. Can't say I have seen Carp look this bad. Just throwing trash outside of the zone and hittable stuff.

It was obvious in the first.

He gave up a long HR on a dead-center cockshot 'fastball' the proceeded to give up at least 2 more hard hit balls in the inning, including a ball the Fielder absolutely crushed.

Carpenter was just awful today. He got victimized by bad D, but he wasn't pitching worth a damn either.

No wonder the Royals fans come into the Cardinals thread.

It's payback for all those Cardinals fans that invade their stadium.

That picture is embarassing.
