I could see that that happening 3-5 times a game. What I would picture from Manning is a fake handoff with strong run action from the O-Line. The he turns in the pocket and throws it to an open guy once the Defense is fooled.

Peyton had difficulty throwing the ball on target at the end of the season while in a pocket, yet you believe he can do it at age 39 while rolling out? You guys aren't being realistic.

And what happens the instant a defensive coordinator puts a spy on Manning and crushes him to the turf? Or hits him after he's handed off the ball? I'm sorry, I just cannot see Manning agreeing to run that type of offense at his age, especially how he ended the season.

Mile High Mania 01-19-2015 04:45 PM

If Manning walks away, let's go see what Mallet or Hoyer brings to the table...

The key is to resign the young guys, keep as much of that talent as possible. Although, I could see DT looking at Indy and saying "Hello".

Rain Man 01-19-2015 04:54 PM

The only way I might pay to see a game next year is if Peyton Manning was running bootleg plays to Justin Houston's side.

It could only work if we ran the ball very well and limited those rolls.

This.

I'm just not going to get all wrapped up in what's happening right now. I control 100% of none of it. So, we'll let the cards fall as they may and go from there.

I'd love to see my team win another SB, but I'm not going to let the success or failure along that path ruin the game for me. The ending of the last two seasons sucked, but the seasons were fun.

On to the next chapter in this book... we'll see if the lead character changes, at some point it will happen.

Good luck with that.

He actually did the stuff I am talking about earlier this last year. Who knows if he can do it for an entire season? Maybe he finally just got old. Maybe he wore out over the season. Maybe he was banged up. Maybe he retires and this all becomes moot.

It's not that Manning can't learn a new system. It's more a matter of does he want to given he has AT MOST one good year in him left. Does he want to spend his final season being the teacher AND the learner at the same time?

I really wouldn't if I were him. And to be honest, I wouldn't want to if I were the Broncos. I'd want to start the new system ASAP with my next long term guy, or at least somebody who can be there for 2-3 years. Manning is not that QB.

This is a very confusing decision by Elway. I get that he wants Kubiak and has a plan and everything, but I also don't get that he WANTS Manning to come back if he wants to.

listopencil 01-19-2015 06:25 PM

Here's an interesting article. It's about kicking a Field Goal when you have 4th down on the 1 yard line, as McCarthy did against Seattle yesterday:

http://thebiglead.com/2015/01/19/mik...one-yard-away/

I saw it referenced on IAOFM :

Going for the John Fox Special isn’t as safe an idea as one might think

Douglas Lee Jan 19, 2015 5:52 PM

Mike McCarthy and Kicking from One Yard Away
thebiglead.com
Teams that went for it and converted, to take a touchdown lead, ultimately went 19-5 in those games.
Teams that went for it and failed, to remain tied and leave the opponent usually backed up inside the 1 yard line, went 15-5.
Teams that kicked the field goal (all of them made), to take a three point lead and then kickoff, went 13-14.
Here's hoping we're not referring to it as the Gary Kubiak Special next year...

DeezNutz 01-19-2015 06:29 PM

Yeah, I think this is an example of people over-thinking the issue.

Elway wants Kubiak (lol) because the NFL is an incestuous cluster that makes Oedipus blush, and both Elway and his new bitch sure as hell want Teabagger Vance to return next year.

Even though his dick is partially broken, he's still a shit ton better than a lot of chum floating around the NFL.

I don't know, I think they view as most do ... really only have 1 more year with Manning and then you're starting over in 2 years. So, do you spend the $20+M and gamble or do you say "f*** it, we gave it a run and and some fun for 3 years?"

Just Passin' By 01-19-2015 09:00 PM

OT, but I saw this line on Reddit, and I thought I'd give a Broncos fan some props for keeping his humor:

Just to keep it to one thread:

I was thinking Dennis Allen would be a decent choice for Kubiak's DC but I just heard that he went to the Saints. I had heard some buzz about maybe Fangio but he went to Chicago. The Broncos interviewed Joseph (Bengals secondary coach) for the HC position but now they want to talk to him about being the DC. The Bengals have not given him permission, and they blocked a guy before in this situation, so I'm waiting to see what happens when the Bengals talk to Joseph about it.

Tombstone RJ 01-20-2015 06:04 PM

Vance Joseph will--probably, 95% sure--be the Broncos next DC.

NBC Washington reports Bengals DBs coach Vance Joseph will be released from his contract so he can "pursue opportunities to become a defensive coordinator."

Joseph has been rumored to be a leading candidate to coordinate Gary Kubiak's defense in Denver. He's also been linked elsewhere. Joseph should officially have a new job before the end of the week. Jan. 20 - 5:53 pm et

There was dissension among the coaches/Elway that was hidden from the public for most of the year until after the Colts game. Fox/DelRio against Elway/Manning/Gase and the Colts game indirectly really exposed this split. Elway probably wished he had replaced Fox with Gase after last year's SB debacle but Elway realized how much stability Fox did bring to the team and did not want to upset the applecart when Elway felt he was 'that close' to winnning a SB. However, when Fox didn't get his contract extended this last spring Fox and DelRio knew they were 'on notice' and Elway didn't want anymore excuses from Fox about not having enough defensive playmakers. So Elway went balls to wall on FAs and brought in Ware,Talib and Ward. The first big issues that split Fox/Elway was that Fox(regardless if he is a D guy) is a run first guy and you need to establish the physicality first before finesse in the air. Elway,Manning and Gase follow the Gillman approach that the pass sets up the run. Well, by 2/3rds of the season it looked like Fox was right because the Donks began to sputter because they were way too pass happy and almost abandoning the run entirely and D coords had a much easier time defensing the donkeys. They go back to running more and began to become more effective.

Now by playoff time you have 4 hard headed guys facing off against each other 3 against 1 Elway/Manning/Gase vs Fox as to how the game plan should go against the Colts. It was apparent Fox gave up on the offensive game plan to run more and just gave in to the regime and it showed because Gase/Manning were horrible that day and ran very little but when they did run Anderson was effective. They just didn't run enough and who knows how many times PM checked out of Gase's calls. The 2nd big issue that sealed Fox's firing IMO was Fox's lack of blitzing the whole game and having Talib cover the slot guy (Hilton) when Talib had never covered the slot all year and Fox did not make any adjustments whatsoever the whole game. There is no way that Elway was not privy to the Defensive game plan and I'm sure he told Fox his reservations about allowing Luck to get to comfortable back there. No way Elway was quiet at halftime and no way John doesn't call down to the bench by 4th qrt screaming for Fox to blitz more and get someone else to cover Hilton. It was one of two things here IMO either Fox didn't take Luck seriously enough like Elway did or Fox knew he was on the way out and did the passive/aggressive thing and just chose not make adjustments indirectly 'flipping the bird' to Elway and he will do it his way come hell or high water. After it was all over we got to see Fox's passive/aggressiveness against Elway unfold with his NFL gossip buddy and attention whore Jay Glazer and their relationship and how all that unfolded which really exposed the rift between Elway and Fox.

Now seeing reports that the Bengals have denied Defensive Backs coach Vance Joseph a chance to interview for the Defensive Coordinator job of the Broncos. At least they waited until the day after Martin Luther King Day, right?

that's what Manning needs

go to Buffalo so he can play postseason snow games

brilliant

he needs to go to a team with a dome, or a warm weather place

Let him finish up his career in Detroit ... now that would be the team for him. He'd be deadly with those guys, and, I can guarantee he'd be better than Matt Stafford.
