BlackOp 06-08-2015 09:12 PM

KC's defense dropped so many INTs last season...it cost them at least two games. The Raiders one stands out...The Kelce fumble stands out too against the Cardinals. People can blame Smith all they want but the Chiefs should have been 11-5 last season.

There isn't a shortage of mediocre/bad QBs who chuck it deep.
And those guys really benefited from showing teams they would let it loose. There is a lot of scoring in those QBs lead offenses right? I mean that is a huge part of NFL passing?

Interesting. According to Clay to be a great QB you have to throw it deep a lot, yet the best QBs in the league - Brady, Manning, Brees and Rodgers - are all middle of the road/average at number of long passes.

And the majority of those who do throw it long a lot, with only a couple of exceptions, are crap QBs.

In most cases, everyone must share some blame in losses for one reason or another. It's almost as if it is.. a TEAM game or something.. imagine that.

Sometimes, it is just the lazy way for the agenda driven to blame one player though.. a player they have had a petty grudge against since his arrival. They bash from day 1... and then act outraged that this player can not save the team from their many flaws. Ironic, to say the least.

Well, prior to 2013, KC was a clear bottom-feeder team that most were snickering at. Since this QB's arrival, the Chiefs have now become a consecutive, winning team. They are again relevant.. and even in losses, tend to put up a good fight. That is a pride that means something to most fans and players.. even if some here at CP can only pout about not being the very best.

We drafted a guy in the third that's very similar to Flowers in almost everything.

Fighter, smaller, good ball skills, physical with good instincts.

If you miss Flowers, you'll be a big fan of Nelson.

Flowers had become a liability against big, fast receivers.

He wasn't big enough to muscle them or fast enough to run with them.

It was time, we just shouldn't have reworked Flower's contract right before we cut him.

Manning was near the top of the league with 83 attempts over 20 yards in 2013.

The whole reason Nick Foles had a breakout season, was leading the league in % of deep throws.

One needs not be an expert in all things KC prior to 2013.

They were a bottom-feeder team, just as their 2-14 record clearly shows.

So I won't stop. Now kindly toddle off and GFY, asshole.

Any of these guys, or any other WR for that matter that Smith has played with, excel when Smith left? You could point to crabtree but basically Kap just took the yards that were going to Davis and gave them to crab. Then crabtree fell off and had to settle for the raiders. Moss WAS freaking old and then retired AGAIN. Manningham was hurt and old and also retired. Bowe may do something again next year, now that he lost his big contract, we'll see. I don't know about Avery, I can't even recall where he was picked up.

They were so bad of a team Matt Cassel would have had back to back trips to the playoffs had it not been for two blocked Succop field goals.

But you knew that, right?

Fine. A team quarterbacked over 32 games by Matt Cassel, Kyle Orton, Tyler Palko and Brodie Croyle would have made TWO playoff appearances had it not been for Richard Seymour going HAM against the Chiefs' field goal unit.

And it would have done so in 2011 without a star RB, a what was then serviceable TE, and a then game-changing safety.

Yes, throwing downfield is flashy and what not, but if it's not a for sure matchup win by the receiver, smith will not force the throw. And let's say he does force the throws and it gets picked, all of you would be quick to feather and tar Alex real quick, so in defense of Alex it's a catch 22

Take it from me, I've followed Alex since he was drafted from the 49ers and watched pretty much all of his games and this idea most on here seem to think of as truth is false: that Alex doesn't throw the deep ball. I've seen him throw a 50 yarder down the field to a receiver equivalent to Wilson during a torrential rainstorm Thursday night against the Seahawks in Seattle. Or when the game is on the line against the saints in that divisional playoff game to Vernon Davis. Most recently to Donnie Avery. My point is, yeah he doesn't take enough chances as we like, but the guy can throw and win you games when the game is on the line. How many qbs have the Chiefs had in recent memory can you trust and win you games? Alex is smart he won't take the gamble if the risk is not worth the reward. And can you honestly blame hi 100% last year for the offensive woes this team faced? But the future is bright with this team and honestly it reminds me of the 49ers team going into the 2011 season. And guess how far they made it that year, a fumble away from playing in the super bowl.

Why would we feather before tarring? Makes no sense.

Sean Smith was the 5th highest graded corner last year and didn't committed a single penalty all season.

This is going to be such a great year.

No matter how much a few guys stamp their feet and throw themselves on the floor like angry children, there is one fact they cant escape or explain away... when Alex Smith has a team like this, he can not only get them to the playoffs... he will win some while he's there.

How many is up to him and the rest of the team, but man dont I feel good about the team we have this year, theres talent just waiting to bust out all over the place... rookies, second and third year guys, young vet injury cases, older but injured last year leaders coming back into the fold...

Stud receiver custom made for his QB, stud back custom made for ANY offense, stud TE full of attitude and swagger on top of all that... then throw in a line that will almost certainly give Smith atleast the minimum 3 seconds on most occasions and...

Wow man, its going to be a great year, I've even been noticing all kinds of AP, Yahoo, SB Nation and other sites (Peter King has us at #5) starting to see the light about this teams true potential.

I WILL be at a game this year.

Cant.

Wait.

We have a good defense, not an all-time great one, and an offensive line far below the 2011 49ers.

There is a debatable aspect to the OL, but its mine and many others opinion that there is more than enough "shit" to throw at the wall this year... they'll find an NFL worthy grouping out of this bunch.

TimBone 06-09-2015 08:11 PM

It won't be Thanksgiving before this board is lamenting the quality of offensive line play.

Or how Maclin isn't getting open enough.

Or because Albert Wilson / Chris Conley aren't credible enough receivers to draw coverage away from Maclin.

Or because the defense isn't a top-4 unit compared with the rest of the league like just about everyone here is counting on.

Umm..I try not to spread too much negative energy here...but this is total, unadulterated horseshit. The thing you want most from a CB is for them to be invisible...and Smith was. He was like top 5 in the NFL and an integral part of the #2 ranked pass defense...do you even like/watch the Chiefs? You do know that they didnt give up a 300 yard passing game last season right?...that includes playing Brady, Manning (x's 2), Rivers (x's 2) and Roethlisberger. He's one of their best players...might as well say Charles sucks too because he didn't lead the league in TDs..

I'm hoping they resign him after this year..he has earned it. He's the tallest CB in the league...perfect for Sutton. Interested in Calvin Johnson vs. Smith this season...

It's the most balanced team we've had in a long time.

The OL and WR's (and QB, honestly) aren't where I'd like them to be but they should be better. There's a big difference between competent/average and piss ****ing poor...

Once Alex underachieves relative to what people here are expecting, Reid will become the next target after lackluster offensive play.

Unless, of course the defense regresses harder than I expect to the point it's merely an average unit compared with the rest of the NFL. Then the Sutton will be the scapegoat mentioned in the same breath of the fact that the offensive line isn't stocked with five pro bowlers.

Were you dropped on your head as a child?

WTF makes you think the D is going to regress?

Flowers also used to take chances like that and get toasted.

SS is pretty good. Go have your periods in a shark tank.

Sean "unremarkable" Smith is in for a poor man's payday next year.

If he has another season like last year, he's gonna get paid.

Maaan, I'm sure glad we agree on other things because this... this, is just not right... in 2014 this guy was the leader of a genuinely, truly superb secondary.

He is a bespoke fit for Suttons scheme.

GoShox 06-10-2015 07:32 PM

Sean Smith was absolutely solid last year.

I'm all about getting ****ed up, but whatever Discuss, and SDW are on, is some other level shit. I'm talking the stuff from Formula 51. At least share!!

Someone needs to take out the trash. These insufferable pricks make every thread about worthless. I wish they'd go scrape the shit off each other's dicks with their buck ****ing teeth.

Smith is solid well above average. The pass rush for KC makes the whole secondary look much better than the individuals actually are.

That's only partially true.....It's a symbiotic relationship. Didn't help Kendrick Lewis ...Having decent DBs makes the QB hold the ball longer also.

Well true. But you could have Sherman, Revis, earl Thomas, and chancellor but if you can't get pressure a receiver will eventually get open. I think a pass rush is way more vital than lock down corners.

start at the 4 minute mark.

That's the best I could find. It shows some seam work between alex smith and Vernon davis. Which is all I was pointing out to. No matter where Vernon Davis is, or was on the field, Alex Smith had no problem throwing to him. Which is ironic because Vernon Davis has awful hands, and catches everything with his pads.
