And the Tigers bullpen sucks monkey cock. How about patience and forcing your way into their bullpen before inning 8? Eric Hosmer saw 3 pitches in his first 3 AB's today, if I am not mistaken. Sure Fulmer is a beast, but don't enhance your odds of losing by being stupid at the plate. The Royals offense had him on the ropes early multiple times and let him off the hook. As usual.

Yeah, right. This Staff just can't keep the ball inside the Park.

If a live ball is to blame, then why the **** does it look like we are swinging at a 20# ball when we are at the plate?

Jerok 07-17-2016 01:42 PM

Told my wife, "Sorias up, we are gonna lose it here"

Lost it.

Came on CP to confirm others thought the same.

Confirmed.

Thanks Mexicutioner.

Balk definitely tough. But I look at it like that's one of those things you can't control(close or controversial calls). You can control getting a runner in from 3rd w less than 2 outs or not shanking a pitch with a runner on 3rd.

This team just seems to find ways to lose as opposed to last year's find anyway to win team. Frankly, I'm just hoping for an interesting August and a winning season at this point, but if I've ever seen a team headed for 81-81 this is it

And this. Last year this game goes 13 innings or something and the Royals win 3-2.

When you consistently score three or fewer runs your margin of error is razor thin, and stuff like that -- and a wild pitch, and a misplayed fly ball, etc -- become magnified.

Captain Obvious stuff, I know, but typing it out is part of my coping mechanism.

That's the frustrating part, same as it was during the Steroid Era.

MEXICUTIONER

Well, no sweat. We'll just sweep Cleveland.

Nightfyre 07-17-2016 01:45 PM

Well, Alex Gordon being a giant hole in the middle of the lineup isn't helping, either. All of GMDMs signings this season look pretty terrible.

Gordon, 4/72
Soria, 3/25
Young, 2/12

That's a lot of wasted resources.

Soria is the worst of those three, by far. Young is out of position as a starter, and at least Alex still brings his defense with him. But yeah, none of those are turning out too well for Dayton at the moment.

Sorry to ask, but who it the homer? Thanks in advance, taking the kiddo to camp barnabas, not much wifi here.

Mexicuted.

Saltalamacchia, and he absolutely destroyed the pitch. Crushed it.

Al Bundy 07-17-2016 02:06 PM

Frustrating loss.

Basically their version of Bryan Pena beat us.

siberian khatru 07-17-2016 02:36 PM

Rustin Dodd: In high-leverage situations this year, Soria has faced 66 batters and given up 14 runs. In all others, he's faced 103 and given up five.

suzzer99 07-17-2016 02:39 PM

I've gone from feeling confident we'd find a way to win games like this, to feeling sure we're going to lose.

Is it possible this is just bad luck? Or is he making worse pitches?

TomBarndtsTwin 07-17-2016 02:40 PM

So . . . . don't bring in Soria with the game on the line is the conclusion to draw from that.

I thought Ned spoke to his analytics guys the other day . . . .

suzzer99 07-17-2016 02:48 PM

Yeah pitch Wade there and hope for the best. Leaving Wade on the bench is like when football coaches try to get cute saving their TOs and then the game ends with a TO in their pocket.

Demonpenz 07-17-2016 03:01 PM

Soria's who you got in that situation. If he sucks that is what card is going to be played.

Jerok 07-17-2016 03:14 PM

Wade pitched yesterday coming off of a DL stint, this is not on Ned. This is squarely on Soria, who apparently can't be relied on in high pressure situations.

Chris Young is a terrible starter but has been a really good bullpen arm, let's see if he steps up.

KChiefs1 07-17-2016 03:27 PM

Indians win again.

What was the contract Ryan Madson signed with Oakland? Definitely seems we should have kept him instead of the awful Soria signing.

3 yr/ 22 mil. Basically a carbon copy of what Soria has with us.

Those are the types of signings that close/shorten Windows. Spend that money + Kennedy on Cueto and resigning Hos/Moose and our windo goes for 5 more years......

EPodolak 07-18-2016 03:28 AM

Have no idea what looked promising signing Soria.

sedated 07-18-2016 09:57 AM

I agree that the signings have been dogshit and might cause the Royals to turn back into a pumpkin, but the revisionist history by fans is insane.

Cueto? There wasn't a single person in KC who wanted him back after his disastrous 2nd half of 2015, even if it was for half the $150 million he got.

When Madson got his deal from the A's, Royals fans thought Beane was insane (or insanely desperate).

If there was someone questioning the Gordon signing, I'd like to see proof. It wouldn't shock me to see a few people question it, but it was widely regarded as a good move especially considering we had 2 OF spots open and throwing 2 AAA guys in there would've been dangerous.

RealSNR 07-18-2016 10:13 AM

Nobody saw Alex Gordon inexplicably turning into a ****ing chump in year one of the new deal. Not a single goddamn person.

There were people who said, "A long term deal means we may be paying for trash sooner rather than later" but NOBODY said he'd be garbage this quickly. For no reason at all, injury or otherwise.

Gordon's shit this year is the most frustrating part for me. Even more than the pitching.

Prison Bitch 07-18-2016 10:20 AM

What's scary about Gordon is these deals on guys 30+ years of age tend to be ok for a year or two before turning bad. He turned to shit from day 1. If history is any guide he isn't going to magically turn it around in years 3&4. You normally have to get whatever value you get by the early period.

Madson has put up virtually identical numbers with Oakland and the fanbase is hoping to trade him for a bag of balls.

suzzer99 07-18-2016 11:56 AM

Madson also had a nasty habit of blowing it in high-leverage spots - in the playoffs and I think once late in the regular season. I thought it was a good move to let him go.

The dude was clutch in the WS. But I had no issue with cutting him loose in the offseason. He's four years older than Walkoff Soria and the massive case of dead arm he had in August was a concern as well.

sedated 07-18-2016 12:23 PM

Age had to be the biggest issue with Madson. His only real hiccup was facing the Blue Jays.

Although if age was the issue, not sure why we gave Young 2 years. That seemed like a "you saved our season, lets get you some cash" move.

suzzer99 07-18-2016 02:19 PM

Didn't Madson also get shelled in Houston game 4?

Yep, he gave up bombs to Correa and Rasmus to extend their lead to 4 runs. Then the 8th inning happened and Madson ended up the winning pitcher.

Colby also scalded a ball off him in Game 1 of the ALDS. The American League was not kind to Ryan in the playoffs.

C3HIEF3S 07-18-2016 02:48 PM

The Blue Jays, especially, seemed to have the book on him all of last year.
