As for all the nay saying on a little humor really it sometimes helps take mind off the reality for a while. As they say laughter is the best medicin. My Chief of surveys for 25 years a very very respected man in the business and more so with the crews died in a horrible accident on 10 highway near Richmond Mo. He they think had a massive heart attack and plowed into a 30 in diameter tree his truck burst in flames and you know what happens then. The monday back at work at the office the second in charge knew it would be a tough day for us and okayed we drive up and see the site where he died. We arrived seen the burnt grass and shattered and melted plastic parts from the truck the tree had already been removed by the DOT. We stood there stunned then erected a cross at the spot of survey stakes and flagging a fitting tribute to a man who lived and breathed surveying during life. We stood there not saying a word till one of the guys said "Well John always liked to smoke." That broke the ice and we talked and told stories we remembered about the man eventually peeled wheels and went back to work. The laughter broke the ice and was just what the doctor ordered.

I agree. Typically there's is a little time before jokes are acceptable.

BTW, I heard a rumor that that's what happened to Tyreek Hill too. His girlfriend told him that it wasn't his kid, but that of a friend of his. Needless to say, he took it maybe a little too hard. Just a rumor though....but it might explain his comment about being more careful about picking his friends.

Appreciate the first sentence.

For the record, I'm not against the humor at this point. I just think a few minutes or an hour after it happened - before we know the extent of it - was too soon.

Shit, I nearly posted this after srvy told him not to grill too close to the gas tank of his van down by the river.

LMAO

Dammit, you beat me to it. Had to take a picture for proof.

Amazing how safe this is when you start the chimney inside the grill/smoker.

Then again, as ****ing hot as it is, I probably could have just dumped coals directly from the bag to the grill and they might have spontaneously combusted.

Rustle the bag around for a little friction and throw the whole thing on the grill...

Agreed. I joked earlier, too. As I said, my issue was the joking before we knew the full extent of what happened. Just a little respectful time.

Do a little experiment and each time light the chimney closer and closer to your house. Once a wall goes up in flames, mark the distance.

Let us know a safe distance for chimney starting.

Thanks.

I grilled a steak today and thought I might join the club. I flipped it over and it apparently had a bunch of juice pooled up on it. Suddenly a big fireball was headed toward my midsection. I leapt backward and fortunately didn't catch my t-shirt on fire or anything, but I've probably cooked 10,000 steaks in my life and never saw a fireball go out instead of up before. (I was a cook at a steakhouse in college, so I really have probably cooked 10,000+ steaks.)

You should write song lyrics.

If you don't know CP by now,
You will never, never know it.

All the things that we've been through
You should understand CP like it understands you.
Now FMB doesn't know when it's fine
To joke about other's stupidity.
He seems to think there is a grace period,
But this is ****ing CP.
Now don't get your panties twisted,
When other try to make light.
Cause we only act like children,
When we argue, cuss, and fight.

If you don't know CP by now,
You will never, never know it.

Baby Lee 07-24-2016 07:25 PM

To answer a previous question, the complex would be well within their rights to keep your security deposit, if their fire insurance deductible is higher than your deposit.

If your deposit is more than their deductible, you should get the difference back if they are covered for loss of rents.

However if your complex is small, and you know the owner or something they might take pity on you.

Inmem, first off, I'm glad you and your family are ok. Now, having said that, you learned your lesson, but you shouldn't have had to. You don't ever, and I mean ever start coals over wood. Old wood, new wood, any wood. A small breeze could blow embers on the wood, hell, any number of things could happen. I'm actually surprised something like this didn't happen before. You really shouldn't be smoking on a deck patio at all, particularly a wood one. Sorry this happened man, but geez, I can't believe you did that.

I agree, after several times bqqing and smoking I thought I was good. I made sure the ash and lit embers were under control. I can't count the number of times I used this method. The Fire Marshall was a bit surprised as well. I showed him my setup and the steps I took to prevent any fires. The Arson investigator said in his exact words "this is a very strange fire".

This type of fire is a bit rare, but understandable considering the season. It's best to let this sit and marinate for a bit until we can understand what Inmen is going through.
