Kap fell off a cliff BEFORE Harbaugh left. They were 8-8 and missed the playoffs. Meanwhile Alex Smith made the playoffs.

Why do you hate the Chiefs QB?

Foles...not that good. Looked pretty terrible actually. I think we can all put this one to bed. Sure, he can throw a deep ball but often they don't look that great. WTF was that when he threw that deep ball that should have been intercepted? He always looks for a long ball and misses open guys that would move the chains otherwise. Great back up.

We still would have went deep with Alex that year with Harbs. He was playing superb ball. Kap was out of this world and was setting records and defenses weren't ready for it. Simple as that. He went with the hot hand and rode it to a superbowl that he was a play or 4.. from winning.

Yep. 2012 Alex Smith was elite and with 1 season under his belt he showed significant improvement in Harbaugh/Roman's complicated offense. Crabtree under Moss' guidance really started to make huge strides.

He wasn't elite. Good God with the hyperbole.

He was a good fit for a system that fit him well. One that doesn't ask him to do too much. Calling him elite and putting him in the same class as guys like Peyton and Brady is bonkers. We've all already acknowledged that that supporting cast was also good enough to carry a bad QB, Kaepernick, to the Super Bowl.

#2 - Andy Dalton
#3 - Carson Palmer

Tony Romo was #1 in 2014. All "elite" QBs?

2012 Alex stats -

Games -10
Attempts - 218
Comp. - 153
Yards - 1737
YDS/G - 173.7
TD's - 13
INT's - 5

Those are the numbers of a good quarterback, not an elite quarterback. Looks much like the numbers he puts up here. Alex has never been elite here. He's had elite GAMES, but never an elite season.

So when Brady won his first 3 superbowls throwing an average of 210 yards a game on 62% completion rate, how would you classify him?

What am I not comprehending? You called Alex Smith's 2012 season elite which means you're putting him in the class of Peyton, Brees, Brady, and Rodgers (who was elite that season). First of all... no. Second of all, if you're going to use QBR as some validation, you should acknowledge that tons of non-elite QBs like Palmer, Romo, Cousins, and in 2012 RGIII have posted top 5 QBRs.

Stats don't make you an elite QB, you dolt. If Alex Smith had an entire career like 2012, it still wouldn't make him an elite QB. The idea that QBR is the absolute measure of QB eliteness is totally ridiculous. Like I said, there are a lot of middling QBs who have ended up in the top 5 and it's not because they had elite seasons. It's because they had good stats for the year.

The Pats had a top 10 passing offense during their 2nd and 3rd SB seasons. Brady was top 10 in TD passes both years.

This was all well before Moss.

Alex is decent but no Brady...this team is the complete opposite I'm afraid.

Every team has flaws. But this one is 6-2, and has won 16 of their last 18 regular season games, despite losing significant players to injury both seasons.

Because Brady is an elite QB regardless of the stat line. Alex Smith is not. It's not a knock on Alex Smith. It's a testament to Brady's greatness. The fact that you're willing to even entertain any remote discussion of the two being anywhere on the same level is the perfect example of the exaggeration that drives fair-minded fans crazy.

Anyone who watches games beyond the stat line knows this. Actually, every single person not in the Alex Smith fan club knows this.

Yet it does fly. Do you know what the object of football is? To WIN. Not to get the most passing yards, or the longest passes. To WIN. That is all. They don't have to be pretty wins, just wins. And we have them. Objective met.

No it doesn't fly because when your Qb is sucking brad johnson/Dilfer lvl its only a mirage/hindrance

Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer wish they were as good as Alex Smith.

2 of those 3 have a super bowl ring so I'm pretty sure they don't

You really just did compare Alex Smith to Tom Brady, didn't you. Holy shit ****.

Alex is good, even great on that rare occasion, but he is not worthy of being compared to a future first ballot Hall of Famer, and arguably one of the top three best quarterbacks of this generation. Like, ever.

But since you asked, I'll answer with a question of my own - In how many of those wins and Super Bowl victories did Brady bring his team back from behind as compared to Alex in the same time frame? We'll all wait here as you search for the answer.

You mean he played behind an elite defense and vinatieri did all the clutch work. Facts. It wasn't until year 6 that Brady really showed elite QB play, prior to that BB had him play like a game manager

Brady was top 10 in yards and TDs in his 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons as a starter.

A SB ring due to great defense. They aren't as good as Alex Smith, and it isn't even close.
