I can't honestly say I thought about a fries dish from a Mexican place though?

That still seems odd.

They're some basic ass fries. They're more like a tortilla chip. They're just the vehicle that gets the good shit into your mouth.

Yeah you've got to do something with the fries. What they do is just take potatoes and cut them into a fry shape, and then fry them in a light oil. So what you are getting is simply slices of fried potato which the American fast food consumer is not used to at all. I like to have them 'animal style' to add flavor.

Quite possibly the worst fries you'll ever eat. Yes, they are that bad.

I won't eat there again until they fix their fries.

That reminded me of place a couple years ago I found on the start of the strip on the airport end.

It looked like an old club with no windows etc...it was a bar with the absolute best breakfast you could get for dirt cheap. Bloody Mary's were cheap too. It was like stepping into the 70's walking into this place.

Fantastic food. Went for breakfast a few times, didn't make it back for dinner like I wanted.

Not sure at the moment. Used to be a TON. But most of them got phased out. A few remain as flea markets, and occasionally they try to reintroduce them with new tech like FM transmission of the movie audio and more concession amenities. But even then, a lot of them have failed as well. Haven't checked lately if there are any remaining hangers-on.

Dayze 05-03-2017 06:26 AM

we rolled to Topeka a few weeks back on the motorcycle with some friends; I wasn't leading, just sort of hanging out in the back of the pack, and we pulled into a place called Bobo's (I think?); tiny litle place like Paul's Drive In.

I really liked it. I had a double cheeseburger, fries, and a soda and it was like $8? Good little spot to hit up. Nothing 'amazing' by any means, but it hit the spot. I'll go back next time I roll through Topeka.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. I've been thinking about it myself the last couple of days. Maybe pool all similar food items together, and put them up against each other until we have a clear best dish from each category. I'm still not sure, though.

As far as voting, I'm gonna do my best to get solid pics of each dish from yelp or elsewhere, and folks will have to vote based on what looks best for the price listed.

I agree that this turned into a solid food thread. I know I'll be referencing it from time to time when we're traveling.

Fire Me Boy! 05-19-2017 10:25 AM

The place is closed now, but back in the mid-90s there was a "Dairy Mart" in my town that had a "Firefighter Special" for $5, including tax. It was a triple cheeseburger, two extra large sides, and a 32-ounce drink. The burgers and sides were really good, and huge. The burger probably was 14 oz. in meat. And their sides included kickass onion rings and okra. That place was awesome.

Shawarma or shawurma (Arabic: شاورما‎‎) is a Levantine meat preparation, where lamb, chicken, turkey, beef, veal, buffalo meat, or mixed meats are placed on a spit (commonly a vertical spit in restaurants), and may be grilled for as long as a day.[2][3] Shavings are cut off the block of meat for serving, and the remainder of the block of meat is kept heated on the rotating spit.

Hummus is made from garbanzo beans, olive oil, tahini, garlic and other seasonings to taste.

Yes, that place is great ate there for lunch as I have been turned off last couple of trips to Touch of Asia in OP.

This will give you an idea what to expect.
Chicken Shawarma is a good way to try it at home but it's basically a Indian wrap. Very tasty.

2lb /1 kg chicken thigh fillets , skinless and boneless
Marinade
1 large garlic clove , minced (or 2 small cloves)
1 tbsp ground coriander
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 tbsp ground cardamon
1 tsp ground cayenne pepper (reduce to 1/2 tsp to make it not spicy)
2 tsp smoked paprika
2 tsp salt
Black pepper
2 tbsp lemon juice
3 tbsp olive oil

prep marinade and soak chicken in fridge for 24 hours then grill.

serve sliced on warm flatbread with yogurt sauce and typical salad stuff for filling,

Not bad. I'll have to remember that.

As a chain restaurant, I can dig Texas Roadhouse actually.

So, a fancy KFC Bowl. . . ;)

BTW - Today was Wed, which should have meant Wild West Wednesday, with the 9.99 11oz Cowboy Cut Sirloin w/2 sides.

Even better deal!!

Yes, but way better than the KFC bowl...I don't go there often, but I love the chicken fried chicken. That's a good deal on the sirloin...

I agree, we like it for being a chain, and we don't do chains much. I love the Country Fried Chicken.
