It's not the defense as a whole. Its Ragland. Dude is ****ing terrible and they won't give his snaps to Niemann.

Even if you think Ragland and hitchens will get it together and improve, this is a no brainer

Ragland was pretty good last year. WTF happened

OK. Forget PUP. That doesn't help us at all.

Gonna have to go with MUP.

Ragland had 4 solos last Sunday. DJ had 3 ... on probably about 1/10 the snaps.

Just food for thought as we throw some more green wood on the fire.

That team traded away Khalil Mack. I couldn't give any less of a **** about their player evaluation skills.

Yes, but that team has no hope of competing and is trying to give young players an opportunity to flash. We're trying to cobble together the win-now-triage-team. It's not at all the same situation.

If we were 2-4 right now, there's a zero percent chance this is even remotely considered. But does he give us a better chance to win now? Probably. Is he cheap? Yes. Could be potentially add some feel-good mojo and act as a leader and mature veteran on the field? Absolutely.

Get this done, Veach.

You don't coach professionals on how to tackle. They either do it or they don't.

If the coaching staff can't get them to understand it, how is a player going to help?

This looks like a giant nothing story.

What? You bring Derrick Johnson in as a coach in that scenario. You know, the thing that Andy Reid has already stated he wants Derrick Johnson to do in the future? No time like the present since he's got actual hands on experience with this scheme.

The d has zero leadership on the field. DJ may not be the same player he was a few years ago, but he would definitely fill the leadership role. That may just be the spark they need

I understand what the naysayers are getting at, but if DJ could just put Ragland on the bench where he belongs... thats a win all day long

Situations like this usually cause me to pause a bit, but this seems like a no brainer... bring him back at vet minimum, and bring some stability back to the ILB corp

Why you bring him in to coach a scheme that pretty much everybody here thinks is garbage?

Yet another band aid on a femoral bleed. Just delaying the inevitable.

Chief Roundup 10-16-2018 05:26 PM

The Chiefs didn't want him during the off season. We didn't even talk to him about a cut or anything and you could tell it was a surprise to him. I doubt they want him now.
He asked for his release from the Raiders and they obliged him. They didn't just cut him.

Ragland hasn't been moved to the bench yet. His backups can't even manage to get on the field most of the time.

No ****ing shit, dude. We've already established that we're stuck with Bob Sutton until the end of the year. Bring in DJ as an assistant like Joey Porter so he can at least attempt to help these guys understand what they'll be doing for the rest of the year and when Sutton gets shitcanned hire DJ to the new staff as the LB coach. That's pretty much exactly how Joey Porter started his coaching career for Pittsburgh.

Not alone, but how about

- sign DJ for peanuts
- trade for Patrick Peterson
- get Berry back
- get Sorrenson back
- get Passangnon healed up
- get Houston healthy for the stretch run

How does that look?

My thought was that Gruden always respected DJ, and any time he called one of our games he had great things to say about him.

I think Gruden realized that not even DJ's experience could help his young players, and because he knew that he wasn't bringing DJ back next year, that the classy thing to do was release him, and maybe DJ could make a contribution somewhere else.

I don't care how old he is, he knows the defense, and could at the very least mentor Ragland. At the very least. At best he would be one of the best tacklers for the defense. No one expects him to put the defense over the top, but he can add value to this team.

The loss to New England - more specifically, the WAY they lost to New England - was way too Chiefy for me.

Between the Earl Thomas crap and that game, I'm back to being disgusted with this franchise, which is even more frustrating because they're ruining the Mahomes mojo.

It's all typical Chiefs as far as I'm concerned. Drafting Speaks, paying high dollar for a highly-regarded free agent that sucks here, all of it.

That game was really hard to watch. I was much more at peace when it was 24-9 than when it ended 43-40.

Because he's going right back to the bench as soon as the other guys are healthy. He was a 2nd round pick that they traded up to get and flashing or not, he's not a starter.

When a defense is THIS bad, that's just not acceptable. They've spent so much money and capital on this defense and it's not just bad, it's the worst defense ever. Pretty deflating, at least for me.
