I think he was also the one who called out Paul Hackett for giving up on third downs. He mentioned being up in the booth and asking Paul why he was throwing three yard passes on third and eight, and Hackett said something like, "We'll pick up a few yards and it'll help us when we get the ball back later". Gunther strongly disapproved of that mindset.

Man, I still hate Paul Hackett.

Throwing short of the first down sticks on third down makes me crazy.

Why? Why in God's name can't we have that again?
These Midwest hacks calling themselves writers should be ashamed.

Yeah, and he probably wanted to straight up murder Sutton and everybody on the defense, too.

Slob Buttons should go down in history as the biggest pussy DC this team has ever had.

I don't think it can be overstated how much DT's death affected the Chiefs franchise and our defensive identity. 20 years removed, and we STILL haven't gotten it back. schemes and players have come and gone, the league has changed dramatically, but that does nothing to change the fact that this franchise has yet to field a defense that plays with that kind of intensity.
Regularly. Game after game, season after season.

I disagree actually. I think the 2014 and 2015 defenses got there, or at least close enough. How ELSE do you think Alex got his reputation for winning?

But yeah, we haven't had a run like DT's squads.

Stats. Not the same intensity. Not even close. As of 2018, Chris Jones was the only person on this defense I saw that exhibited anything relative to the traits that I associate with a premium Chiefs defender.

Nope. Not the same. Good, even great players, but not the same energy.

Hammock Parties 05-15-2019 03:00 PM

Always thought Berry and Tamba had that going for them...

I guess the best way to explain it would be like watching an entire squad ramped up to 11. Everyone on point, and everyone playing at an extremely high level of intensity.
For four quarters.
