All in all it was a Saturday game, and the extra day is going to help.

Pretty similar to being rolled up on by a 300lb football player. I once misstepped off a ladder at work and rolled my left ankle. My whole foot was bruised for weeks afterwards and hurt like hell, but I didn't go to a doctor and didn't miss any work. So, basically the same thing. He'll be fine

At his presser, he said it didn't hurt as much as he expected and that he should be good to go next week

I doubt Andy gives any kind of real update until he absolutely has to. As long as he doesn’t tell us Patrick is day to day!

Playing basketball and baseball along with football all through his life I'm going to say that Mahomes has sprained his ankle many a time and he knows how to deal with it and play on it. He good!

Buehler445 01-22-2023 12:09 PM

I was hoping it wasn't high ankle, but it is what it is.

I haven't been on much, so I don't know if it's been posted a million times, if it has, forgive me.

I love Mahomes. End.

HOWEVER. It's important to save him from himself at times. Dude could be out there with a bullet wound. I think he'll play and he'll be fine. But I'd happily forfeit the rest of the year to not jeopardize the next 10.

I know Andy agrees but it was still nice to see him send mahomes to the locker room in the middle of a playoff game. After watching Tua and Herbert get injured and rushed back, I'm glad andy is a big picture guy.

Wish they would provide the grade, but understand why they don’t.

Unfortunately, this probably will take away what often has been the difference in close games: Mahomes’ ability to scramble for big chunks of yards, first downs and TDs in key situations.

I'm more worried about him dodging would be sacks, he's the best at it and our tackles demand it.

The funny thing is Jaguar writers and fan are FURIOUS at their pass rush. They got literally zero pressure tye entire 2nd half on Mahomes.

Line definitely manned up in the 2nd half, I just don't think you can count on that. I'm happy Von Miller won't be playing next week.

I'm honestly surprised that they didn't just blitz the shit out of him. Sure...he'd probably beat you a number of times but you'd get to him a bunch too. And it's not like Mahomes could scramble that well.

I said the same thing yesterday. I would have sent a minimum of five rushers every play he stayed in the game. We all saw his accuracy slip two notches after the injury. You're right, his arm talent would have burned them a time or two, but why don't you send the house against a guy that is having problems handing off on stretch plays?

I wanna say yes I agree , but I understand Patrick’s sense of urgency. Despite what people think, these opportunities don’t come along often enough. We’re here. Now. It’s the Playoffs. We GOTTA WIN NOW !

It will limit the possibility of play action being a major feature in the play calling but if you plan to run just do a strong toss instead and save Pat some unnecessary movement.

tk13 01-22-2023 01:21 PM

What will be interesting is the Bills and the Bengals are 2 teams who really sell out for the pass and play soft defense with deep safeties against the Chiefs. It's how they had success. Not sure if they'll play more aggressive if Mahomes can't run or throw deep as well.

Yep, no guarantees on tomorrow of any kind.

RINGLEADER 01-22-2023 01:34 PM

To me this is going to come down to Andy Reid scheming up a plan that lets Mahomes play Manning-ball — keep him in the pocket, lean on the run, and take our shots with play action. Yesterday Mahomes started the first drive in the second half without a bad limp but after the run he was noticeably hobbled. We may need to lose that part of his game if he isn’t able to go full strength (which is a likely scenario) and make sure that he’s making throws that don’t require that extra push off his right foot.

Play to what he can comfortably do.

Give him a good game plan.

Hope that everyone around him on offense and defense plays at another level to help him out.

We can absolutely win no matter who we play next week.

P.S. it also won’t surprise me if Mahomes is 100% next week — dude is inhuman.

Again, I will say, this can work TO our advantage.

Such a gameplan would be vastly different from what we've showed throughout the regular season.

I guess I don't understand. Its being reported TODAY it is a high ankle sprain. Why on earth was he not in a boot post game? I thought that is protocol with any significant ankle injury, and ANY high ankle sprains?

A boot does nothing for a high ankle sprain. It is not a joint injury so limiting the movement of the ankle is not needed.

A proper tape job is all that is necessary.

I'm not as I don't think you want to start that kind of crap. If it starts to happen, the Chiefs defense will probably start taking cheap shots themselves on Allen or Burrow in retaliation. Particularly if you are the Bengals, I don't think you want to invite that kind of stuff with how bad their online is right now. Burrow may not finish the game if that's the case.

My uneducated opinion: there was a play several weeks ago where his ankle was completely sideways and somehow it did not phase him at all. The days that followed there were some videos showing some of the crazy workouts he does to focus on ankle flexibility. So, perhaps that is also helping him with this sprain. Sure it hurts, but perhaps he has put in the work where he can better deal with it than most.

So, his mom posted a picture on IG of them smiling - at Patrick’s house - while the Fox game is on in the background.

This means that he was back at home within 3 hours of the game ending. Factoring in the presser and postgame stuff, and the drive home, it means he probably wasn’t stuck in the trainers room doing treatment for very long. So that’s a good thing, right?

Starting to think it's a strategic plan to change the strategy of next weeks opponent. They'll be thinking we're featuring the run game and Mahomes will be toasting the secondary

I figured they’d have him dangling upside down like a bat while pumping stem cells directly into the ankle joint; possibly having a shaman in the corner chanting and burning sage.

That’s gotta be more than a 2 hour ordeal, right?

Cold reduces inflammation, no? Hence is why you put ice on it. I would think a hot sweaty inflamed ankle might hurt more.

Play action bomb on the first offensive play of the game

This injury is 100% pain tolerance and pain management. Playing on it won't make it any worse as long as taped correctly. It just won't heal until rested properly.

Biggest concern will be getting it rolled up on or tackled by that leg. Will hurt like a mother ****er.

Would certainly like to hear opinions from some orthopedics on if inside 70 degrees or outside 16 degrees is better for an injured ankle. It seems once the swelling goes down you would prefer warmth from everything Ive been reading but never had a high ankle sprain myself.

I can tell you something wild and its hard to believe but I know a sports PT who recommends when you twist an ankle you get out and work it ASAP. You don't simply rest it.

Keep moving it as much as you can and keep blood flow working through the injured area.

Im sure its not always the case but I know rest doesn't fix some tendon injuries as fast as work does. I know this from personal experience.

Seems like it would be harder to play through turf toe than the ankle issue, and that turf toe didn't slow down Mahomes a whole lot.

Harder to throw the ball with an ankle problem. We saw it on Saturday with a slower velocity on some of his throws that normally have a ton of velocity. That ankle helps drive the ball.

The common idea in most PT these days is --dont pussy foot around--
Less than 2 weeks after a knee replacement and I am walking quite a few steps WITHOUT HELP.

Probs had a celebratory 3-some.

Brittany seems like a freak.

Sounds like the kind of shit that goes down in Belize.

I genuinely think Mahomes is an alien. Or some kind of super human. By Thursday there will be reports of him chucking 75 yard bombs off his right leg.

Well, as Chiefsplanet members, we could just use our dicks as a splint for our ankles. Problem solved!
