Horrible football so far. Midwest got the bad noon draw.

Eagles defense looks worse this year. Their secondary isn't good. I think Patrick will torch them again

I know it doesn’t affect the Chiefs but it would be hilarious to see the Rams come back against the Cowboys

It’s truly amazing how the Steelers can do successfully muck up games.

greg Joseph...vikes kicker...get a penalty called on him for being on the field for 4th down, and the coach called a sneak.

4th and 4. 20+ yard throw to Devonta Smith. The ball clearly touched the ground. Refs & Redskins failed to do anything about it. Eagles snapped the ball quickly to keep the drive going. Ultimately it led to another beast mode TD play by AJ Brown.

Ah, okay. For some reason I was reading it was a fifth down scenario.

Nah, that happened earlier. 4th down play. Deep throw. Refs called pass interference to give the ball to Philly on the 1 yard line. 30-40 yard penalty. Announcers straight up said it wasn’t pass interference.

Refs doing everything to prop up Philly in this game. But right after the bogus DPI call, Hurts lost a fumble on the Tush Push at the goal line. Lol

PHOG 10-29-2023 01:17 PM

There's the TD by JAX.

Charlie Hennigan was the last guy. He was the guy that I would have guessed after knowing that it happened, but I wouldn't have guessed that anyone had done it back then.

Apparently Elroy Hirsch also did it in 1951 and Don Hutson did it in 1942.

Hutson must have broken the league back when he was playing. He's still a top-20 guy in receiving touchdowns, and he was playing against guys like Bronko Nagurski and Sammy Baugh.

This talks about who did it previously, it’s shocking that it’s so rare:

It’s been a long time since anyone has done that. The last player to hit the 1,000-yard mark in receiving by his team’s eighth game of the season was Charlie Hennigan of the 1961 Houston Oilers in the American Football League. The only other players to reach 1,000 yards by Week Eight were Elroy “Crazy Legs” Hirsch in 1951 and Don Hutson in 1942.

Athis 10-29-2023 01:26 PM

Tanoh Kpassagnon picked a fumble by Minshew and scored... But it was called back as a forward pass... DAMN IT!

Rain Man 10-29-2023 01:28 PM

Nice YAC by Pickens in Pittsburgh, and then after that they helped Diontae Johnson into the tent looking like he'd been shot. He was completely limp.

DRM08 10-29-2023 01:31 PM

On the bright side this week, none of the CBS games are running a full quarter behind like the Browns & Colts game last week. Hopefully all games finish on time so we can get proper coverage of the Chiefs.

Hennigan and Lionel Taylor confuse me. They had a million catches - twice what a good receiver was getting in that era - and a lot of yards. But they never get mentioned in Hall of Fame discussions. They were before my time, so I never saw either of them play.

It looks like Hennigan had a short career and he only had two great seasons, but they were really great seasons. 1,746 yards in a 14 game season is astounding. That would be a 2,100 yard season in a 17-game schedule. But I guess he doesn't get considered because he was a flash in the pan.

https://www.pro-football-reference.c...H/HennCh00.htm

Looking at Lionel Taylor's stats, I'm guessing that he got a lot of really short passes, because his career yards per reception was much lower than those of the top receivers (e.g., Maynard, Otis Taylor, Alworth, etc.) But he made up for that with a ton of receptions, and his career stats are in the same general vicinity as Otis Taylor. But I've never heard a peep about Hall of Fame consideration for him. What's the story?
