Kansas City announced its undrafted rookie signings just before the team’s rookie minicamp.

On Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs announced the signings of 17 undrafted free agents following last weekend’s NFL Draft. All of these players will be on the practice field for the team’s rookie minicamp, which will be held Saturday through Monday at the team’s training facility on the grounds of the Truman Sports Complex.

Other roster moves
Before announcing 2024’s UDFA signings, the Chiefs made seven roster moves.

They withdrew the ERFA tender offer they had made to second-year linebacker Cole Christiansen, making him a free agent.

The team also waived linebacker Jordan Smith, wide receiver Shi Smith, wide receiver Jacob Copeland, tight end Izaiah Gathings and safety Tyree Gillespie.

Finally, they released a vested veteran: wide receiver Anthony Miller.

Very soon, any of these players could find themselves re-signed to the team — perhaps as early as next week.

The team now has 91 players under contract, including a full complement of 90 that count against the active roster. We estimate that the team now has $15.2 million in cap space.

In no particular order, the newly-signed UDFAs are:

CB Miles Battle, Utah
A native of Houston, Battle comes in at 6 feet 3 and 196 pounds. He spent two seasons as a wide receiver with Mississippi, appearing in 12 games. Then he switched to cornerback, appearing in 31 games over three seasons and collected 66 tackles (39 solo, 0.5 for loss), two interceptions and 16 passes defensed. After transferring to Utah, he played in 13 games, accumulating 32 tackles (23 solo, 0.5 for loss), a pick and three pass breakups.

G Nick Torres, Villanova
This 6-foot-6, 320-pound native of Whitestone, New York started games at both guard and tackle over five seasons at Villanova — mostly at tackle, but more recently at guard.

WR Reggie Brown, James Madison
Hailing from Lakeland, Florida, Brown measures 6 feet 1 and 195 pounds. He accumulated just seven starts over 32 games in the four seasons following his redshirt freshman year, but started all 13 games in his final season — including four games with more than 100 yards each — registering 53 receptions for 1,054 yards. His nine touchdowns led the team.

DT Fabien Lovett Sr., Florida State
Listed at 6 feet 4 and 314 pounds, Lovette — a native of Vicksburg, Mississippi — began his collegiate career with one season at Mississippi State before joining the Seminoles. He registered 74 tackles (31 solo, 12 for loss), five sacks, a forced fumble and five passes defensed in 36 games over four seasons. As a redshirt senior, he was a team captain.

LB Curtis Jacobs, Penn State
Originally from Glen Burnie, Maryland, Jacobs stands 6 feet 1 and weighs 241 pounds. Over four seasons and 42 games (including 36 starts) with the Nittany Lions, he collected 171 tackles (105 solos, 24 for loss), 2.5 sacks, a pair of interceptions and two fumble recoveries. As a redshirt junior, he was a semifinalist for the Dick Butkus award.

T Ethan Driskell, Marshall
Checking in at 6 feet 9 and 329 pounds, Driskell comes from Louisville, Kentucky, where he played both basketball and football for Holy Cross High School. Redshirted as a freshman with the Thundering Herd, he appeared in 48 games over four seasons, collecting 26 straight starts at left tackle to finish his collegiate career.

CB Christian Roland-Wallace, USC
Hailing from Palmdale, California, Roland-Wallce stands 6 feet tall and weighs 201 pounds, He was a starter in every one of his five collegiate seasons, collecting 37 starts in 41 games at Arizona before transferring to USC for his redshirt senior season. There, he appeared in 12 of 13 games. During his collegiate career, he recorded 206 tackles (153 solo, six for loss), four interceptions, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and 24 passes defensed.

RB Carson Steele, UCLA
Checking in at 6 feet and 228 pounds, this native of Greenwood, Indiana turned in a noteworthy sophomore season at Ball State, registering 1,556 yards and 14 scores on 289 carries. After transferring to UCLA, he accumulated 847 yards (and six touchdowns) on 167 carries over a dozen games — including eight starts.

RB Emani Bailey, TCU
A native of Denton, Texas, Bailey comes in at 5 feet 7 and 202 pounds. He played at Louisiana for two seasons before joining the Horned Frogs. Over his four years, he had 2,161 yards (and 18 touchdowns) on 266 carries — including a senior season where he recorded 1,209 yards (and eight scores) on 223 attempts. He was named an honorable mention to the All-Big 12 team before participating in the Senior Bowl.

P Ryan Rehkow, BYU
From Veradale, Washington, Rehkow stands 6 feet 5 and weighs 235 pounds. Over four seasons, he’s had 43% of his career punts land inside the 20-yard line — and averaged 47.4 yards per punt.

WR Phillip Brooks, Kansas State
A former Lee’s Summit West player, the 5-foot-8, 177-pound wideout attended the Chiefs’ local pro day. He appeared in 65 games (including 43 starts) in Manhattan, catching 53 passes for 589 yards and five touchdowns in a dozen 2023 starts.

TE Baylor Cupp, Texas Tech
Hailing from Brock, Texas, Cupp checks in at 6 feet 6 and 260 pounds. He spent three seasons at Texas A&M (getting one start in 10 games as a redshirt sophomore) before transferring to the Red Raiders. There, he appeared in 24 games (including 13 starts) over two seasons, recording 23 receptions for 246 yards and four touchdowns.

G McKade Mettauer, Oklahoma
This 6-foot-4, 316-pound native of The Woodlands, Texas transferred to Oklahoma after three seasons at California. He started a total of 53 games over five seasons at both left and right guard, giving up just one sack in his entire collegiate career. He was a team captain in his redshirt senior season

LB Swayze Bozeman, Southern Miss
A native of Flora, Mississippi, Bozeman stands 6 feet 2 and weighs 225 pounds. He spent two seasons at Copiah-Lincoln Community College before coming to Southern Miss. Over 32 games, he collected 168 tackles (73 solo, 12.5 for loss), 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and two passes defensed.

T Griffin McDowell, Chattanooga
This 6-foot-5, 282-pound offensive lineman spent five seasons at Florida, where he appeared in 40 games playing all along the offensive line. He appeared in 13 games during his final season at Chattanooga.

CB DJ Miller, Kent State
Standing 5 feet 11 and weighing 187 pounds, the O’Fallon, Missouri native spent three seasons at Iowa State before transferring to Kent State for his final two years. Over 44 games, he recorded 131 tackles (82 solo, one for loss) an interception, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and 11 passes defensed.

LB Luquay Washington, Central Connecticut State
This linebacker comes from Waldorf, Maryland and is checking in at 6 feet 1 and 215 pounds. Over 37 games in four seasons, he registered 110 tackles (65 solo, 16.5 for loss), seven sacks, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and five passes defensed.

The rich got richer last week when the winners of the last two Super Bowls drafted seven players, with the first three selections joining the team’s well-established offense. The Chiefs expanded their rookie class to 24 players by signing these 17 undrafted free agents:

The Chiefs return their top three rushers in Isiah Pacheco, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and La’Mical Perine, but after finishing a middling 19th in the league in rushing yards, Kansas City may be taking some flyers on potential upgrades at the backup positions behind Pacheco. Bailey comes in after two seasons at Louisiana and two seasons at TCU. At each school he had a season in which he scored eight touchdowns, and he racked up 1,209 rushing yards in 2023. Steele arrives after two years at Ball State and one at UCLA. He led his team in rushing yards all three seasons and was first-team All-MAC in 2022 after leading the conference with 1,556 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Driskell was a surprising prospect to end up undrafted. He’s raw and needs NFL coaching to develop a role with the Chiefs, but his towering 6-foot-8 frame was expected to land him somewhere in the fifth or sixth round of the draft. Lovett was likewise expected to land in the fifth or sixth round but slipped out to an undrafted position unexpectedly. He has the ability to flash as a rotational defensive lineman, but a lack of consistency could cost him a spot on the 53-man roster.

After trading away L’Jarius Sneed in the offseason and drafting Kamal Hadden in the sixth round out of Tennessee, the Chiefs bring in three more prospects including Roland-Wallace. Roland-Wallace spent his final season with the Trojans after four years as a starter at Arizona. His quick twitch helped him rack up four interceptions and 29 passes defensed in college.

Even Rehkow was expected to get drafted after four years with the Cougars. The four-year punter saw his punting duties skyrocket in 2023 as BYU’s offense struggled mightily in their move to the Big 12.
