I hadn’t really seen a solution for next season and beyond on the horizon for the position. This out of nowhere get could be huge.
|
Honestly, would someone with knowledge describe how good he is? I know he’s likely an upgrade over Donovan Smith and way better than Wanya/kingsley, but what are we looking at here?

I don’t doubt he was someone to consider previously though. And he’s 100pct why Donovan Smith wasn’t on speed dial. |

Great! Now get your butt in here and play! :thumb:

Get him some games and be ready for the playoffs

Honestly I'm still in shock. This season just seems like some kind dream at this point.
|
Just in reading about his abilities he honestly sounds like a perfect fit for us. Not so good that we would be priced out but good enough that you don’t have to worry about the position if we can sign him again to start next season.

Now the last couple of years he has turned it around and maybe that’s because of new coaching? I am a little worried that he hasn’t stayed in shape with his injury and it may take longer than some are hoping to get game dry Buuuut who knows? |
There is a reason why this year's offense is worse than every single Reid - Alex Smith offense (yes, it's true) -- and it starts with pitiful LT play. That has now been addressed.

Well hell yeah! Nice!

If he's not we've secured depth and an insurance policy should Morris get hurt. This probably also guarantees we don't have to move Thuney to LT if injuries hit. |

Derrick says the Chiefs have been monitoring Humphries situation for the last month. |
Yeah I could totally see them trying to stick with Wanya. Oh well. Humphries will eventually start one way or another. He's just better.
|
There’s no way they stick with Wanya IMO. They wouldn’t make this move if they felt fine with him.
This guy is going to start next month |

So what we think? Can he get ready for the Chargers in 16 days?
Cleveland might be more realistic. And we definitely need him there. |

This is a game changing move. I can’t believe none of us ever even mentioned him. Was he even showing up on free agent lists? I don’t recall ever seeing his name.
It’s like the football Gods created an 81 overall LT on Madden and put him in free agency for us to sign. It’s just crazy, this dude wasn’t even on anyone’s radar. Just wow. |

This guy makes his living as a pro football player so I would think he has been working and staying in shape the best he could as he finished his rehab so he could get a job and make some million$.

I can't see Morris being the starter after the Raiders game. Against the best edges, he has simply gotten wrecked...Mahomes looking like Don Knotts in the pocket is proof.
|
And the youngster ask who is don knotts ?

Man this is incredible! In Veach we trust :thumb:

If this dude is healthy and plays to his potential, this is the best o-line Mahomes has ever played behind. He’d easily be the best LT since Fisher by far.
Just out of nowhere, so weird. Get Pacheco, Omenihu, and Hollywood back as well to a 9-1 roster? Wow, this could really be fun. |

If DJ shows that he is healthy and in shape, I think he gets a shot. |

We did this sort of nonsense in the offseason thinking Kingsley was a long-term starter. Let’s just hope we have baseline competent play. |
I saw that he’s going to be the backup to Wanya and not the starter at LT. I think I’d rather have Humphries out there if he’s healthy.
|
How did I miss this thread? Or, really that we signed him? Great job, Veach.
He must be pretty close to game shape if we signed him this late, right? Wonder how long before he gets into a game? |

1. Chiefs will never lose again And 2. Chiefs will never win again I’m one of those at all times. I’m currently #1, until this guy has one bad rep. |

The best we were hoping for with Morris was just don’t let Mahomes get killed. If Humphries can get us to competent, like to the point we don’t have to chip and can still run a deep pass play, that’s just huge. |

I think the money speaks for itself. And I don’t think Humphries signed that deal to watch someone else play LT. I’d be shocked if he isn’t the starting LT sometime next month |
I think you need to get him out there at some point and see what you have because if it’s any good, yeah, then there’s a sample size to determine if he’s the guy in 2025 too or not.
It’s gonna be a kinda weird transition though. Wanya hasn’t been unplayable lately. This would be more about seeing if for some odd reason Mahomes will just play with more trust when the vet is in the lineup. Much as was the case with Orlando. He wasn’t a Pro Bowl tackle in my mind, but Mahomes didn’t seem to worry about him even on his bad days the way he has with Wanya and Kingsley. |
Quote:
You're on of those "Wanya Morris is the only problem" type of guys. |
The idea this guy wasn't brought in to start is ridiculous.

Humphries offense in Arizona was not like that |
At the very least he’s nice insurance in the event Wanya goes down with another injury

Clearly signed to replace Trey Smith

People should realize that all these teams giving us their best shot has got to be the hardest on the guys in the trenches. This o-line is getting guys coming at them a million miles an hour trying to wreck Mahomes. They want him more than any other QB they play. When it counts, on betting on them being back to form. |
Maybe it was posted earlier, but was there a reason Arizona cut him vs just riding out his injury?
