I hadn’t really seen a solution for next season and beyond on the horizon for the position. This out of nowhere get could be huge.

SHOWTIME 11-22-2024 06:19 PM

Honestly, would someone with knowledge describe how good he is? I know he’s likely an upgrade over Donovan Smith and way better than Wanya/kingsley, but what are we looking at here?

Morris will easily be better at that than Nourzad next year.

Bringing back Trey Smith just has to be a complete non-starter at this point. He has these streaks every year and he's just not a great pass protector. This isn't the right team for him.

I don't think it's that hard to find a decent guard.

Possibly with Suamataia. Possibly with someone not yet on the roster.

At least on paper, Suamataia seems perfect to take that athletic LG spot

I dunno. It seems like the LT situation has become extra-dire over the last couple weeks.

I don’t doubt he was someone to consider previously though. And he’s 100pct why Donovan Smith wasn’t on speed dial.

I’m down here in AZ and I remember when he was drafted. He had a horrible work ethic and got called out multiple times by the coaches for being lazy.

Now the last couple of years he has turned it around and maybe that’s because of new coaching?

I am a little worried that he hasn’t stayed in shape with his injury and it may take longer than some are hoping to get game dry Buuuut who knows?

FringeNC 11-22-2024 07:00 PM

There is a reason why this year's offense is worse than every single Reid - Alex Smith offense (yes, it's true) -- and it starts with pitiful LT play. That has now been addressed.

Yeah, this is not a cheap signing. It's also another roster spot they gotta make room for. We aren't backfilling for an injury at the position, either. Only reason you sign a guy of this caliber is you want him to start.

This is a game changing move. I can’t believe none of us ever even mentioned him. Was he even showing up on free agent lists? I don’t recall ever seeing his name.

Chiefs haven't liked Wanya at LT all season (they trusted him so little they went with an unproven rookie who clearly wasn't even close to ready).

If DJ shows that he is healthy and in shape, I think he gets a shot.

I mean, I see his point. I think Humphries will play, but this move could be more about Kingsley being unplayable than dissatisfaction with Wanya. Ethan Driskell was active instead of Kingsley last week.

Can we pump the breaks? It doesn’t need to be an unplayable line to the best he’s ever had with a guy coming off an injury off the street.

We did this sort of nonsense in the offseason thinking Kingsley was a long-term starter. Let’s just hope we have baseline competent play.

I saw that he’s going to be the backup to Wanya and not the starter at LT. I think I’d rather have Humphries out there if he’s healthy.

That’s really all I’m expecting out of Humphries, but if we get that along with the remaining four guys all turning it on and playing to their potential down the stretch, then as a unit you have a pretty damn good group.

The best we were hoping for with Morris was just don’t let Mahomes get killed. If Humphries can get us to competent, like to the point we don’t have to chip and can still run a deep pass play, that’s just huge.

pugsnotdrugs19 11-22-2024 08:31 PM

I think you need to get him out there at some point and see what you have because if it’s any good, yeah, then there’s a sample size to determine if he’s the guy in 2025 too or not.

It’s gonna be a kinda weird transition though. Wanya hasn’t been unplayable lately.

This would be more about seeing if for some odd reason Mahomes will just play with more trust when the vet is in the lineup. Much as was the case with Orlando. He wasn’t a Pro Bowl tackle in my mind, but Mahomes didn’t seem to worry about him even on his bad days the way he has with Wanya and Kingsley.

The stats for Donovan Smith and Wanya Morris are unbelievably skewed. Remember that this team had to throw quick passes and screens A LOT both last year and this year bc of the LT problems. Those screens and quick passes help pressure scores.

Humphries offense in Arizona was not like that

I'm seriously JIMP thinking about Mahomes holding the ball for 10 seconds and Worthy getting open by 30 yards.

Yeah, but also I think Pat makes life tougher on his tackles when it comes to those pressures and the stats kinda support that no matter who plays.

You're on of those "Wanya Morris is the only problem" type of guys.

Nah, I said in an earlier post none of them are playing up to potential. Trey Smith has had streaks like this before, he’ll snap out of it. Thuney could just be aging, but I’m betting on him stepping up before the playoffs as well.

People should realize that all these teams giving us their best shot has got to be the hardest on the guys in the trenches. This o-line is getting guys coming at them a million miles an hour trying to wreck Mahomes. They want him more than any other QB they play. When it counts, on betting on them being back to form.

Maybe it was posted earlier, but was there a reason Arizona cut him vs just riding out his injury?
