Peters must have been much, much, much worse to deal with than the outside world ever knew about.

that's the only thing I can come up with.

Peters is going to shine elsewhere but IMHO he told Hunt straight up, not here not ever in KC. His trade will haunt us someday.

Maybe we can draft ourselves a real spark plug in the 1st and never give Peters another thought. Hopefully someone who has 48" arms.:D:D:D

These are probably the same people who destroyed their keyboards over the Jared Allen trade too.

It will come down to how well Reid and Veach do with the picks.

The point of the league isn't to keep guys here for as long as you can, it's to maximize their value and contributions to the team when you have windows to win championships. Keeping Hali and Charles during the Pioli years ended up meaning jack shit even if they took deals at/below market. Why? Because we weren't ready to win.

Meanwhile over the next 3 years we'll have Kelce in his prime and 3 young players in Hill, Fuller and Jones who will all be on rookie deals for 2 of them with the ability to frontload them on extensions for the third. We'll also have an immensely talented young QB on a rookie contract to boot.

The window to win a championship was WIDE THE **** OPEN for the next 3 seasons and Marcus Peters was effectively under team control for those years. If you lose him in 2021 who gives a shit? 3 years is an eternity in this league.

The only justification of any sort for this deal is that the organization is changing its underlying philosophy and is going all-in on offense so they know that they won't even want to bother tying up space for 2020 on a franchise for Marcus when they could use it on Hill. But even that is just pissing all over the window they have the next 2 years.

This trade demonstrates a complete lack of any sort of killer instinct by this front office. They preferred keep things level; move a piece here and there and make sure they get something by 2021. I mean sure, the goddamn meteor and/or Trump is going to have killed us all by then, but that's important stuff guys. That or they're writing off 2018 as a transitional year anyway and think the risk/reward for pushing all-in on 2019 and 2020 is too great.

In other words - the kind of organizational cowardice that has led to decades of us being just good enough to lose when it matters.

This hurts the team badly for the most wide open window they've had since Len Dawson. No matter how you try to rationalize that, it's a terrible decision. They needed to focus their energies on winning a title in the 3 years they'll have Mahomes for peanuts. This clearly does not do that.

Excellent post, as usual. Here's my biggest hangup. If you're going to blow up the defense, then blow it up. Instead, they keep Sutton, who needs corners. They tell us he needs more talent then they trade away one of his most important, talented guys. This feels like Andy reid is being wishy washy about what he wants out of his defense.

SAUTO 02-23-2018 01:26 PM

After the no socks game we weren't interested in re signing him AT ALL.

sedated 02-23-2018 01:26 PM

I don't think the Chiefs could franchise Peters. That tag pisses off anyone who gets it, and he doesn't seem like the type to take it in stride.

Of course you'd have to be nuts to believe that, but then it would make sense.

If they can't use the cap space opened up by Mahomes nothing contract as well as Hill's, Jones, Fullers and Hunts over the next 3 seasons to build a Super Bowl caliber team, pray tell when exactly can they?

They will NEVER have the combination of young talent and cap advantages they have in front of them right now again. Seriously - this will be the best situation they have in terms of cap/talent for 20 years. Mahomes alone is a $20 million/season asset over the next 2 seasons. Hill, Hunt, Jones, Fuller, Peters and Kelce would probably get another $50 million on the open market.

If you look at this roster and say "well they can't win a title in the next 3 years anyway..." then why the **** bother? Because if this team can't win one, such an animal does not exist.

Yep but the Chiefs local sponsors are now happy that the National Anthem protester is gone so Clark Hunt feels like he just won the Super Bowl.

That's all that matters in Clark World.

Clark is the Jeffrey Loria of the NFL.

See, there you go. I said earlier that for all we knew he'd asked to be traded.

I'll just wait and read the "so then you tell him to shove it" posts now. ROFL

@RealMNchiefsfan: Just had a source who has provided me good info in the past tell me Marcus Peters requested a trade after the Titans playoff loss.

No, I'm not kidding.

This is the most half ass rebuild attempt I've ever seen.

It has to be something along the lines of...

2018: 1st, 3rd, 5th
2019: 1st

And that's aiming low

I can't help but wonder how our defensive players feel after this season. It's like soldiers listening to the generals orders knowing they are matching into certain death. These defensive players have to know that Suttons scheme last year was a total dud.
