If you're having fun keep at it, but this guy is gonna be a stage 5 clinger.

I am going out of town for work this weekend and will be gone for a week so I think that is making him want to hang out a lot before I go out of town.

Because I'm daft enough to say that thing around women.

If you wanna help, try setting up this cracker with some job interviews.

That's how I ended up dating a girl (22, college volleyball player) I met through a friend.*

*the friend had hooked up with this girl a few times but, **** him, as I'd tried to set him up a couple times, he wasn't equipped to handle her, and I deferred taking her home in front of him out of respect.

You ended up dating a chick your friend ****ed? You lost.

Yes it is kind of scary the power we have over men! It is sad that so many women nowadays don't get that.

Or maybe it's sad that it's still true? I've met a lot of women who claim to be staunchly "for" gender equality, but still expect men to do all sorts of very traditional things in a relationship. It's frustrating, and in my opinion, it actually sets women back in the long run.

I get the point you are making, but I don't think this is losing. In fact I saw the situation as an opportunity to collect where the friend failed.

as far as dating goes I say screw gender equality. I want a man that is going to step up and take care of me, and I in return will take care of him. At this point in my life I am so sick of all the crap I'm in charge of that if a good man comes along who wants to spoil me I am all for it, and I will find ways to spoil him. I also feel very strongly than allowing men to be men and take the lead in dating is essential to their well being. I guess that is what I mean so many wine nowadays don't want to just enjoy that.

If she didn't **** anyone before me, that would have made her either an inexperienced virgin or one of the un****able masses. Neither are good options.

**** that. I have enough opportunities to "be a man" in my day-to-day life, and the last thing I want at the end of the day is for my best friend to act all dependent "for my well-being".

That was maybe not the best choice of words. I just mean it seems like men are happier when they get to take the lead. But based on what you said maybe I am totally wrong that that is not all men. I mean seriously that is why I'm on here, what the hell do I know about men! :)

I think that's the key. Just because I dislike the notion doesn't mean that there aren't some men who appreciate it. The same goes for women; there's nothing that's universally true about peoples' personalities.

Absolutely. I have been so independent all my life and I think I'm just now getting that I like men who are going to take the lead and it just allows me to enjoy things more when I don't have to be in charge. So as for me, screw gender equality in dating. :)

Dayze 10-30-2013 10:01 AM

If I ever, god forbid, get divorced -I highly doubt I'll have the patience/tolerance to try the dating thing again.
OR, if I do, it'll occur by chance. I'll never approach a woman and ask her out.

Sounds like his closing skills weren't that poor if he smashed her a few times.

Best advice.

You know what I think most dudes want in a relationship? An honest, upfront woman who's comfortable being herself. No games, no bullshit, and especially no surprises later because a lady's been acting a certain way for a long time and then suddenly decides it's time to "be real".

Which I would guess is probably what most women want, too.

You either click with someone or you don't. No point in forcing it or trying to be what you think they want. You be you and let the rest work itself out.

Not that I should be taken as any kind of authority on dating or relationships, of course...

No she does not! She might think she does, but she really doesn't! Once she watches those steaming piles of shit, if she can make it through all of them, she'll realize it was the biggest mistake of her life.

That probably should be a requirement, but then sadly I'd be breaking it myself. Being born in the early 90's, my formative years were filled w/ the original trilogy, then the new trilogy came out through my elementary and middle school years, so I'm pretty much a self-proclaimed Star Wars nut. My fiance pretty much hates them all, but prefers the new to the old because she says the old-school effects just ruin them for her. WTF? I don't get her some times....

No offense, dude, but with the way you've complained in this thread, it sounds like you're a beggar trying to be a chooser. Especially if you're just in it for fun (and it sounds like you did have fun), a 3-4 year age difference is nothing.

I had a girlfriend for a long time - and we're still friends, but I'm ready to date again. I feel so lost at my age and being I'm a non drinker.

Yeah man, I get antsy, I'll figure it out - I'm going to go full blown Rocky Balboa workout mode this winter. When I make myself the focal-point, it's my best bait.

[teenage rant]

I went out for drinks tonight with a chick from my apartment complex, whom I met during our Halloween bash last Thursday. I called her to ask her out, she says "I'd love to" and all that, and we finally went out tonight.

We have a very nice time, and I make at least a few flirtatious comments referring directly to the date we're currently on. After a couple hours of enjoyable discussion, we leave (because we both have early morning work things to do), and I feel pretty good about it.

I'm sitting at home, sipping at a rum & coke before bed, and I get a text from her saying that "I had a nice time, but I had no idea that you were asking me on a date! We hardly know each other! I'm not in a position to date right now, but I hope that we can be friends, haha!"

I cannot emphasize how obvious this date scenario was. Like any man, I've had my fair share of rejection, but it frustrates me like hell that she hesitated to tell me that she didn't see things as a date until well after the "date" culminated. I feel far more let-down than I would have if she had asserted her position outright (at which point we'd have happily shared some beers as new friends), but she purposefully led me to believe that she was interested in some sort of relationship during the "date" so that she wouldn't have to "give me the bad news" in person. For women, that's considered to be "tactful". For men, it would be "leading someone on".

Pardon me, but that's absolute bullshit. Women nowadays are plagued by inequities in income and social status, but so many of them choose to perpetuate their situation by using only the social constructs that benefit them. Neither I (nor any reasonable man) is encouraged to be anything but direct, and the same standard ought to be applied to women.

I'm one of the bigger supporters of gender/sex equality in nearly every aspect of life, but I feel like an asshole for being convinced that behavior like this (from liberal women, no less) practically guarantees their continued inequality by a majority of men who support it.

I'll be over this specific scenario tomorrow, but **** this shit. I'm tired of being proven wrong, and I'm tired of seeing supposed "progressives" turn out to be nothing more than social opportunists.

Reading through this before posting it, I'm inclined to go get some cheese to accompany my whine, but since I've typed it all out I may as well post it. Or not. You can be the judge of that.

That's why you get on a dating site.

You KNOW they're looking for a "real" date.
