According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, there's mutual interest between the Jets and free agent Jay Cutler.
With only a few openings at quarterback around the league, it was only a matter of time until the Jets were linked to Cutler. The 33-year-old isn't a long-term fix, but he'd be a satisfactory one or two-year bridge before the Jets turn the offense over to a young franchise quarterback. The Jets could also be in the mix for Trevor Siemian if the Broncos make him available. It would also makes sense for the Jets to kick the tires on Colin Kaepernick at some point.

Teams that could go 1st round QB before KC, realistically:
CLE
SF
NYJ
ARZ
HOU

Cleveland is going for Jimmy, SF likely wouldn't use pick 2 on one, Houston doesn't look promising as if they sign Romo, their OL will need upgraded.

The perfect storm for KC -

CLE; trades for Garappalo
SF; trades for Cousins
NYJ; signs Cutler
ARZ; drafts a QB
HOU; signs / trades for Romo

KC is now in perfect position to have more than one choice to draft a QB in the first.

They arent going to get any good comp picks next year. They have tons of $ they need to spend and will sign a handful of FAs that will cancel out any quality comp picks they would have gotten.

Leary and Okung cancel each other out already and Denver signing Okung last offseason cost them a third round comp pick in this draft.

Oops

If the Jets sign Cutler and Houston signs Romo you'd have to think both of those teams are still looking for a youngster. John Lynch was sucking Hoyer's cock but they don't have another QB on the roster. They're still looking too.

How could Dorsey know that the salaries for Oline were going to go nuclear?

People want to talk about the league being rigged, how about all these prices going up in such an organized fashion? :shake:

Jesus, Laz.

This draft is the worst OL draft in a long time and FA isn't exactly stacked with lots and lots of options for quality starting OL.

Supply and demand dictates costs.

Draft yodas like John Dorsey knew it long ago and wanted to make sure he got LDTs deal done before the storm.

The timing of the deals for Fisher, LDT and Schwartz helped Dorsey get good value.

Head case/bad attitude Jay Cutler + the usual drama that is seemingly inherent with the NY Jets.

Gee what could go wrong.

John Dorsey will make a move, you'll bitch about it non stop and then 90% of the moves you're bitching about will come back to make you look foolish.

Rinse, repeat.

you just made the point that most GM's don't think much of this years QB class. But lets take one anyway (like you all wanted Geno, Manzel, RGiii, etc.)

I'd be happy to shore up the D and get a stud rb in this years class and then go after a quality qb in next years draft. Puts that qb in a much better position to succeed kinda like Dak.

I also made a point that there are a lot of dumbasses running NFL teams that fall in love of back up and has been QBs that are a band aid at best and a total dumpster fire at worse. This is also known as "How the KC Chiefs Have Handled the QB Position Since Lenny Dawson Retired".

And "shore up the D and get a RB" then wait for another year? Why? SO KC can be good enough for a wild card and drafting in the 20s again where all the good prospects will never fall?

Exactly. I think every quarterback in this class is a project. I'd be more than willing to take a chance on one of them, but chances are one maybe two quarterbacks in this class will become a good starter.

And we aren't going to have a chance at those QBs next year. Our best bet is to pick the one that we think has the most potential this year, draft him and then sit him for a year while Smith holds down the fort. We aren't going to magically get rid of Smith and then have a perfect chance to grab a top 3 QB next year. Isn't. Going. To. Happen.
