Leadoff double. Who the **** would have thought

Schildt must be the dumbest **** in the history of dumb ****s.

Or maybe he's just a Braves fan.

George Liquor 10-07-2019 04:40 PM

I cannot believe they are running Martinez back out there. Cut him immediately after he blows the game again.

Neither team wants to win this game.

Dodgers have probably the easiest route to a WS they could possibly ask for once they get passed the Nationals.

Marcellus 10-07-2019 05:07 PM

Mikolas looked damn sharp there.

Probably.

They might have a decent shot against the Yankees if they somehow beat the Astros, but Verlander and Cole are just disgusting.

Regardless of Wednesday's outcome this is why I wanted to be playing in October and why PGM can eat a bag of dicks. ;)

Excruciating but fun playoff baseball.

Exactly...you can bitch about winning a weak division...or you can enjoy the ride. You never know when an Anthony Reyes will out duel a Justin Verlander.

Yup Cardinals fans of all fans should know it only matters if you get in, anything can happen.

Hell our 106 win 2004 team got smoked in the WS. You just never know in baseball.

jd1020 10-07-2019 06:45 PM

Hell... Dodgers might even blow their series the way this is shaping up. I'd probably rather face Scherzer than Strasburg right now and they are getting spanked tonight so far.

BigRedChief 10-07-2019 08:15 PM

Props to Yadi for bailing us out!

That was a fun game to watch. Glad I had it on DVR to watch instead of listening to some of you bitch about everything.

Geeezzz man we are 1 game away from the NLCS. No one at least that posts in here anyway, thought this team was good enough to get within one game of the NLCS. We haven’t even played anywhere near our best.

I’ll take Flaherty on full rest in a winner take all game. I like our chances.

I absolutely thought we could beat the Braves. Nationals too, for that matter, if they can somehow pull off game 5. The Dodgers would butt **** us a new asshole.

my point was when this season started. No one thought we’d be 1 game away from the NLCS. I was the biggest homer I think with predicting 92 wins.

Yeah, we’d have a chance against the Nationals. But, the Dodgers, I agree, we will get smoked and embrassed.

jd1020 10-07-2019 09:32 PM

I wouldn't give the Cardinals much chance of beating either of the Dodgers or Nationals.

The Nationals have a 3 headed monster that can pitch you to death. If you get to their bullpen you might have a chance but outside of Flaherty games I would favor the Nationals. And even during Flaherty games your offense is so ****ing bad it's not that much of an advantage, especially if Scherzer picks it up like he did today. Hes been very unScherzer like since returning but he punked the Dodgers today.

With how anemic the Braves middle of the order has been I think whoever comes out of that Dodgers-Nationals series is going to get fisted in the WS.

The Nationals are a tougher matchup, IMO.

The Dodgers as a powerhouse still doesn't make sense to me. I mean, it makes a lot more sense than the Cardinals as a division winner (seriously, just look at this roster!?! Shildt is a miracle worker, man), but they aren't anything close to the Astros and I think the Yankees would beat them as well.

Meanwhile the Nationals don't have to start a single game without someone who could contend for a CY. They're especially nasty in a short-series like this 5-gamer.

But even in a 7 game set, they could get by with only 3 starters. I probably wouldn't do it as short-rest is a nasty history but it's possible and their young hitters are just getting more confident. Moreover, Rendon is the MVP candidate that we hoped Goldschmidt would be.

That's a good team and Strasburg/Buehler could be akin to the Halladay/Carpenter all-timer from 2011.

Marco Polo 10-08-2019 10:02 AM

Pick it apart if you want, I wasn't a fan of it, but it worked. The guy was 24/27 in save situations this season.

And promptly gave up a leadoff double in this appearance, only saved by the next batter's inability to move the runner over. He was lucky he didn't blow this game, too.

Braves are lucky we are shit at moving runners over as well I guess.

Six earned runs in three post season games and a 20-something ERA.

Putting him back in last night was like throwing a lit match in a pool of gasoline only to have the wind extinguish the flame.

To be fair, that double was a double because we had Lonnie "skates" Smith JR. in left field. That was a basically a pop up, just some bad luck. He made his pitches after that pretty well. I wasn't a fan of the move, but it took some guts and if we are going to win anymore games it was probably a move he had to make.

I don't get the Shildt hate...he doesn't make the roster, he can only use who they give him. He won 91 games with a roster that should have finished 3rd or 4th.

yeah, I don’t get the Schildt hate. We bitched a lot in here about Larussa’s Management choices. Bullpen choices, stick with “my guy” approach. And he’s a Hall if Famer. Schildt is in his first full season. Turned around the embrassing defense and base running. Got them 1 game from the NLCS without even playing our best baseball.

Not his fault Mo gave out all those shit contracts. He has to coach with what’s he’s given. The bottom line is this team has went further this year than anyone who posts in here thought possible with this roster.

The Astros, of all teams, going to a pitcher on short rest absolutely boggles the mind.

They understand analytics so well they did not intentionally walk a single batter this year.

Who else were they going to put out there? Wade Miley got smoked in relief and for the 2nd half of the season batters are hitting damn near .300 off him. His Cinderella story has ended.

Believe it sets them up for Cole on normal rest for the clincher and Verlander on normal rest for game 2 of the ALCS, though.

So they get Verlander for game 2, Cole for Game 3, etc.

Would be interesting to see if that was the reasoning ... or what it was.

And come the **** on, Ozuna - you were swinging out of your shoes on 0-1 and now you're in deep shit, bucko.

Ozuna's hit wasn't a bloop. The one lucky result was Yadi's grounder to Freeman, which he botched.

Fowler's was a walk, Carpenters was a walk, Ozuna's was a missile and Edman's was rocked. The only 'iffy' hit was a well struck ball by Goldschmidt into the hole that Swanson had to make a damn nice play to get a glove on.
