I knew Geddy Lee was a huge baseball fan, but didn't realize he has such a massive collection.

Christie's is holding an auction for some of his memorabilia.

I watched the Star building get built from my apartment. Sure as shit doesn't feel like 20 years ago.

And a stadium there would be a really tight fit.

Sassy Squatch 11-16-2023 08:31 AM

The incompetence of everyone involved aside, that actually seems like the most logical spot to me, assuming they can figure out how to squeeze a stadium in.

A's to Vegas has been approved by MLB Owners.

Royals will never go for that site. They want a site where they can force the city to build them their own entertainment district and capture a piece of the related revenue year round. Being next to the P&L District won't let the Royals get those $$$.

Fansy the Famous Bard 11-16-2023 10:21 AM

The KC Star location is more than likely a "due diligence" inclusion so they can also say "see this other location is the most perfectest location for the perfect stadium." *wink wink* come final decision time.

Or they've come to the realization that trying to push their concepts with their own entertainment district are coming up bunk so they're pivoting

Aw shucks, we'd really like to add starting pitching, but gosh darnit they are so dang expensive. We'd like to add a bat... but stitches, they want to be paid to hit. Cheese and rice!

They could be willing to pivot on many aspects, but the ability to make money year round, especially when baseball is not being played, is not one of the things they will concede on. This isn't their concept. This is the industry norm now.

The new stadiums of the late 90s/00s were about adding more luxury suites and higher in game revenue streams within the stadium. Now that that revenue stream is maxed out, it's the entertainment around the stadium that is required for ownership to make more money and sell the team for a massive profit. They will threaten to move before they allow this not to happen.

Yup, everybody is using the Brave's model...

ChiefsCountry 11-16-2023 01:34 PM

I don't know if the Royals are really building a pure entertainment district ala Power & Light on the East Village site according to their site plans they put out earlier. Seemed like there they were going to put in an office building and condos. North Kansas City they would be putting in a lot more but that really seems to be a fall back plan.

Okay. Let them move.

The interesting part to me is what the Chiefs think. They probably have more power than any team in the country right now and could ask for whatever they want. You know the Royals and Chiefs are talking about all this stuff but they don't go in on this together. Guessing they think that's too big of an ask?

Part of me wonders if they pitched this whole thing as "Move Royals here and do X, Y, Z to Arrowhead" it would be a slam dunk. Maybe they're just waiting to see what the Royals do and then build their ask around that. But you know it's coming, the Chiefs are going to ask for money soon and they're part of this process. But the Royals are taking the full-on lead in the community.

Sassy Squatch 11-16-2023 01:48 PM

The Royals can collectively lick the underside of our jizz tubes. Clark Hunt can ask for the moon and he'll probably get it, and I sure hope he doesn't let this Skinflint Dipshit Sherman tag along on his nuts.
