He was looking to jump the underneath route.

It was similar to the Ford play as a rookie - honest mistake and one that gets made, but the timing of it and the impact makes the optics look incredibly bad.

The shit of it was that he was in good position to make a play on that ball, he just looked briefly at the underneath receiver and looked like he was going to try to drive on a pass that way until he realied it had already been released.

Just shitty luck for a guy that was actually in good position....until he wasn't anymore.

Gaines made some awfully nice plays in this game but was clearly overmatched by Sanders and just got hellishly unlucky here. He wasn't good, but the difference between his ass-raping and the Fleming debacle we saw last year was that Fleming never had any shot at doing anything whereas Gaines made several good pass breakups in the game.

It's the difference between a bad player having a bad game and a solid player having a bad game. A healthy Gaines can still start in this league, IMO.

I thought he turned around to look for the ball but since it was already on the way he did not see it at first. He was looking in the backfield, not upwards where the ball was.

Game threads are the best. Just reread this one. Ups and downs are hilarious.

It's pretty apparent that a lot of Chiefs fans subscribe to the 'Whiplash' school of habit reinforcement.

He made three great defensive plays, two inside the red zone on slant/post routes.

And had he not looked back at that underneath route, he may have indeed had a play on that wedding bouquet toss that nearly sealed the Chiefs fate.

I'm watching the game again. One more play to add to the list of things that probably lose us the game if they happen: on 2nd and 10 at the 14 at the end of the regulation, Smiff tries a swing pass to Ware - who is blanketed. Von Miller tips the ball. If Miller doesn't tip it, Ware is almost certainly tackled for a loss, and 8-10 more seconds run off the clock while the Chiefs have to run 3rd and 10 in a scramble drill. We saw how well they did in the scramble drill on the Hill (eventual) TD.

Thank you Von!

I hate that we just let the clock run down for the kick (the doink) after Kelce's catch. No reason not to spike the ball then think about it. We could have centered it, then let the clock run down. Or moved it to the right hash - where the midget seems to like it. Pick up a couple more yards.

I have a bad feeling this season is going to end on some heartbreaking clock mismanagement. Prove me wrong Andy!
