P.S. I really like KCC as a poster and think he brings A LOT to the KU thread, but his defense of Marcus Smart is, at the very least, a little cringe-worthy.

Thanks, but it gets pretty hard to care about flopping when some of the best players in the world (Curry, LeBron, Harden, etc.) in this sport do exactly that every game they play. It's a skill, one that is very important in the modern NBA and one that Marcus Smart is very adept at. Do I wish the game didn't involve it? Sure, but that just isn't reality.

Scott Drew embraced his inner Andy Reid and was out of timeouts with 2 minutes left. Could've extended the game but thems the Bears.

I've never encountered a basketball coach who mismanages his timeouts as bad as this guy. Chalk up another one tonight.

Assuming we beat ISU on Saturday, this one all but assures that our path in the Big 12 tournament will be one of KSU/OSU (QF), one of BU/UT (SF), and then one of OU/WVU/ISU/TTU in the final.

Ferguson is a heavy Baylor lean now right?

All I know is he talks to Self semi-regularly. I know he verballed to Bammy but that was because Avery sweet-talked him. Ferg loves KU. Not sure it's a fit or not but the warm feelings are def mutual

He's not adept at it. He doesn't get the calls anymore. He cried wolf too many times.

I agree with you in principle but what Marcus Smart does is egregious. I know it, you know it and everyone in the world who has seen him knows it.

I watch the Celtics an awful lot and I have to say that he gets plenty of them. The Celtics fan, Shogun, who defended Smart the last time the Smart hatred came up here could probably attest to that.

Celtics fan as well as a Jayhawk fan. Love some Marcus Smart. Can confirm he is a great defender and a great team player.

You could characterize James Harden's ridiculous flailing at the basket on any drive as egregious too, but it's helped him become one of the best players in the NBA. You do anything you can to help your team win. I find it hard to demonize somebody for that.

OU really collapsed. They've been real shaky as of late. Some think it's fatigue, some think they've been figured out, some think it's just part of the phases teams go through during the long conference season. I think they've just been in a funk and it's just part of what teams go through. A real concern is they don't defend well if they're not hitting their shots. Odd for a veteran team. Still a threat to go far in the dance of course with Hield. From watching him the last month he looks tired and he's still playing well, IMO. The scouting report though on Hield is to make him put it on the floor and go left (weakness is ball handling), or just drive period. Chase him off the 3pt line. He's still gonna get his but it's gonna be interesting to see how teams in the dance approach him regarding that.

Good post.

I think it should be repeated ad neaseum that Hudy is an outstanding SaC coach. Really outstanding. I know we run a deeper rotation than they do, but she is really a big part of our success IMO.

As far as OU I agree they look tired or dinged up. Spangler hasn't been himself for awhile. They look out of sorts. Hield and Woodard look out of sync. They used to know where each other we're all the time. And now it seems like they have to find each other.

As far as defending them in the tournament. That's tough. Big 12 opponents have seen him at least 8 times, except UT and ISU. Seeing him for the first time ever would be tough to get a specific gameplan installed. It would be really tough to have a scout team guy give someone a good look at Hield.

If it were me, I'd cover out on Hield and Woodard and never ever rotate off those two guys. If they beat you off the bounce, fine. But don't get yourself in a close out position. Or just sell out and go triangle and 2 and rotate guys to be as physical as possible.

They'll probably go down to some shit valley team that just beats the shit out of them and they're fresh because 60% of their games are a joke.

Exaggerating contact while driving the ball is in no way the same thing as pretending there was an elbow to your chin and flailing like a little bitch when the dude was four inches away.

That is unequivocally bitch.

It's cheap. It's dirty.

It's pathetic.

And it is in NO WAY the same as what Harden does - and I like Smart as a player about 1 bajillion times more than Harden. But it's not the same. Can't help you if you don't see the difference.

That's because there is no real difference. In both cases, the players are trying to deceive refs into making a foul call where isn't enough contact to call a foul. If anything, James Harden's ridiculous exaggerations have a far greater impact on the game than Smart's because of who he is and how many FTs he shoots each game.

Check out some of his masterful flops over the years:

From last May when current NBA golden boy Curry got fined for one of his flops (he's gotten great at exaggerating minimal contact on his shots and still making virtually all of them).

Steve Kerr: "It's a part of the game... Everybody does it. Russell Westbrook flops. Jamal Crawford flops six times per game. Why fine Stephen Curry?"
