Royals need to be talking with Miami about MJ Melendez

John Sherman is such a broke ass. I don't know that I like a group of businessmen owning a team because they don't have money. All they are worried about is trying to increase the valuation of the Royals to flip it like a house. Ownership group puts up the money to buy it, team makes minimal year to year after expenses, needs new stadium and entertainment district to increase the valuation of the team.

John Sherman is overleveraged. He's worth 1.25B and 1.06B of his net worth IS the Royals. This is a real estate play. They would need to secure long term profit for ownership group before they add much payroll. Such a con.

Yes. This is the problem with having pissant ownership. He's Miles Prentice
Part 2...only he got the team. There are 600+ billionaires in the USA and MLB can't find 30 with enough money and balls to field a major league team.

I think I found the answer to our rotation issues. Ragans, Singer, Lyles, Greinke, Ichiro.

Before Seth Lugo signed with the Padres last winter, the Royals were “reportedly” one of the other teams interested, the Kansas City Star’s Jaylon Thompson writes. That doesn’t necessarily mean that K.C. has continued that interest now that Lugo is a free agent again, yet given the Royals’ need for starting pitching and the apparent fact that the majority of the league has at least checked in on Lugo’s services, it stands to reason that the Royals still have the right-hander on their radar.

The price tag will be significantly higher for Lugo this time around. After inking a two-year, $15MM deal with San Diego last winter, Lugo re-established himself as a starting pitcher and posted a solid 3.57 ERA over 146 1/3 innings in 2023. This puts Lugo in line for at least the three years and $42MM that MLB Trade Rumors has projected, and it seems entirely possible that he’ll land an even bigger payday given the broad interest in his services. Kansas City might be hard pressed to land Lugo if it turns into a pure bidding war, yet as Thompson notes, the Royals already know they won’t be vying for the most expensive free agent pitchers. Some teams might see Lugo as a bit more of a backup plan if they can’t land a top-tier starter, whereas the Royals are theoretically more able to focus all their attention on the 34-year-old early.

The Royals have done a poor job of communicating but to be fair in this case, I don't think they've actually said something new about Kansas.

The report going around now is coming from a Jackson County official that was saying Kansas is pushing hard for both the Royals and the Chiefs and that both teams are seriously considering it. He was worried that Jackson County is going to lose both teams.

Yeah he for sure buried the lede in his post. The Chiefs jumping into the the talks for stadium money is the the real story. Up until now it's only been the Royals and nobody really cared.

We'll see. I was surprised someone didn't post it on the board. I was just saying upthread I find it interesting how quiet the Chiefs have been through all of this.

This could be an official just trying to get things moving, but it was a legislator involved with stadium management. Basically made it sound like Kansas is working behind the scenes to try and steal both teams away and Jackson County officials need to stop bickering and take it seriously. It's why Mayor Q tweeted a few weeks ago that the county is going to mess around and cost them the Chiefs too.

I've said it before Chiefs are letting the Royals take the heat PR wise and then come in to get the vote passed.

Meh. It's part of being a MLB and NFL city regardless of the on field performance. Same with the Chiefs. They will go into suckage era when Mahomes is done playing.

poolboy 11-25-2023 03:34 PM

and I will watch both regardless
Chiefs last ten years 124-47
Royals under .500 for the last ten
