Take it FWIW...

Chiefs co-OC Brad Childress said teams have schemed to take away Alex Smith's rushing ability this season.

"I think they’ve done a nice job of closing up some of those rush lanes," Childress said. "In a couple of cases there’s been somebody standing on the other side accounting for him … we haven’t seen as many of those giant creases." After rushing for 498 yards last season, Smith is on pace for just 90 this year. The lack of rushing has put a damper on his already minimal fantasy upside, but he has rushed for more than 10 yards the last two games and scored a touchdown last week. The upward trend could continue this week in Denver against a Broncos defense which has given up the fifth-most rushing yards to quarterbacks this season, but Smith is still not worth using in any format.

It's not worth much.

Especially when we have seen the wide open lanes.

And if it was true that makes his passing performances even more depressing.

Great. So either the coach is yet another enabler with excuses for his guy, or he's incompetent in diagnosing the game.

Truth is probably somewhere in the middle. I'd just rather they stop with the coddling. Smith needs to find the eye of the tiger, and it's not helping him when not being taken to task on where he is falling short.

The coach is an enabler, it's pretty obvious.

Look at his life story

It's nice to see that you are finally seeing the light.

I've rooted for Alex Smith, but it's to the point now where the excuses are just stupid.

All purpose yards Smith is only down 15 yards/game from last year but his passing accuracy adjusted for dropped passes is a whopping 78% (top 4). And this is with his top receiver having a down year...

Then again are you being realistic expecting Smith to put up big numbers when his 2 best wide receivers have joined the league in the last year? For the situation, he's doing fine. Maclin's eventual return will bring things back to order to boost 3rd down and Red zone efficiency. I mean, Maclin did score the same amount of TD's last year as the next 3 receivers combined...

I don't believe it to be light or darkness. Shades in between.

There are legit reasons around Smith that are assisting his struggles.

Still yes though, I am getting annoyed that he isn't stepping up more. I know he can. My concern is that he has lost the hunger. I'm thinking non-football life has distracted him. I no longer feel sure that he is giving his all to winning.. on or off the field.

Perhaps his last 4 years of "success" had been all the hunger required to prove himself... and that was enough for him.

If so, fizzle out.. retire. See ya.

Or maybe there's more to come, and he will remember he still has a job to finish. He still owes the coaches, fans, and players his best efforts THIS season.

Smith completed only 8 passes this season that traveled 20+ yards.

Alex Smith philosophy:

"3rd and 12 I better throw a 4 yard pass"

Let's don't try a hail Mary either pad the stats on a 4 yard hook and ladder.

Jameis hasn't had a game without a td pass since HIGH SCHOOL
Alex has many games like that a season

Did you guys watch Sam Bradford in the early Thanksgiving game? He pulled out his best Alex Smith impersonation, and scored 10 points. But ****ing hell, was his completion percentage just ever fantastic!
