First player did it at the beginning of the season when all was going well for the team. Obviously received a warning and has been a model player since.

Second player has been doing shit the whole season, obviously has been warned, and has started to escalate it until it can no longer be tolerated. The team is not playing well.

Even a stupid mother ****er learns that when things are going bad, you do your part and keep a low profile, without making things worse.

With almost the entire offense set to return in 2018, it would be a good time to make such a move. Recoup a pick or two in the draft, commit to rebuilding the defense with the newfound cap space and picks.

Except what are you rebuilding the defense with? The FA crop out there is hot garbage and at best you'd have to hope that you come away with 2-3 defensive starters from the draft (with minimal picks). We'd better hope that we get high picks from trading Peters AND Smith.
