There's no need to have Flaherty in game 1 on a goofed up routine. He's not a guy you start 3 times; not with the innings he's pitched this year and at his age. You keep him on his rotation and hope to get the absolute best version of him twice in the LCS.

Don't have him throw 110+ or anything, but a nice, tidy, 90 pitch start that has him ready for Game 2 will be just fine. Don't mess around with a kids routine.

Giving up a potential 3rd game from your ace and hoping that you get 2 wins in non-Flaherty games vs the Dodgers or Nationals seems dumb.

But to each their own. Me, I would want my ace as many games as possible and the Braves just gave you the opportunity to set your optimal rotation for the NLCS.

BTW, game 2 of the NLCS is Saturday. If you are keeping Flaherty in his "routine" he wont be available until game 3 on Monday and then you risk only ever seeing your ace 1 time in the NLCS because you wanted to keep him in to pitch a full game up 13-0 in the 3rd.

The rotation hasn’t been an issue, save for Game 4 when Hudson didn’t pitch well.

I have full confidence in Wainwright and Mikolas to pitch well.

We just saw another negative example of pushing your top shelf pitchers on short rest. If we are going to beat the Dodgers, Flaherty can’t do it by himself.

I’d go with Mikolas/Hudson on the road. Save Waino and his one start for Bush.

I would take whatever pitching stats there are from this series with a grain of salt. Prior to this game there was a combined .187 BA with RISP in this series.

Mikolas has been shaky at best for 2 months and Wainwright was chased out of his last regular season game against the Cubs backups.

I have more confidence in those 2 than I do Hudson currently. Wainwright scared the shit out of me on the road, though.

I really wish Gant was on the roster right now for mop up duty.
