Say what?

I get you would like to see the new offensive line win every battle at every position. But it's good to have the defensive line kicking ass from time to time as well. Competition makes the team better.

When Orlando Brown is the biggest concern on the starting line, I think we are in a good spot.

Seems like Brown is getting beat around the corner the most often. I wonder if a chip block to force the defender back inside doesn't greatly help.

It's literally only one trait that seems to give Brown trouble, and that's speed around the outside. Bull rushes, inside, double moves he seems to have taken care of.

That's something they can work on, or plan around. At this point I'm not too worried.

ToxSocks 08-09-2021 10:23 AM

I'll be concerned with Brown if he's getting consistently beaten when the real bullets fly.

I wouldn't put too much stock in 1v1's since the OL is at a serious disadvantage there. It's not indicative of real football results.

I'd also note that it looks like they're having Brown work on handling those speed rushes to the outside, as that's what seemingly every DL has attacked him with. Suffice to say, the Chiefs probably aren't worried about his ability to handle a bullrush or anything to the inside, thus in practice they're throwing outside speed rushes at him.

With that said, it's still nice to see him win reps. He's been the least hyped starting lineman this camp.

Heh, beat me to it. But yes, it looks like the Chiefs are throwing outside speed rushes at him because, well...it's what he needs to work on.

O.city 08-09-2021 10:27 AM

For one group to be successful the other has to be beaten in training camp.

It's been pretty even. Thats good news for the defense. I'm excited.

I'm not "worried" about the OL at this point. It was always gonna take time.

Yeah, I’m sure Reid will have a plan for it.

Remember a few years back when Dee Ford kept abusing Andre Smith with the Cardinals? It was the same thing over and over and over.

Reid won’t let that happen.

I put 0 stock into any camp reports I'm not concerned about Beown at all. I just thought it was a puzzling statement as LT is the most important position on the line.

ToxSocks 08-09-2021 10:32 AM

On some of those speed rushes where it LOOKS like Brown lost quickly, look again. In a real football situation, Brown forced that guy around, keeping the pocket clean.

Some of those reps there, the defender actually woulda ran himself out of the play.

It may look bad in a 1v1, but in actual football, Brown is likely keeping that guy away long enough for Mahomes to make a play.

ChiefBlueCFC 08-09-2021 10:33 AM

Glad to hear the defense winning some days and not just being railroaded by the offense

I won’t speak for him, but I think his intention was that if Orlando Brown Jr is our worst starting O lineman then we’re in pretty good shape.

Since Brown is at least somewhat proven, then that means those other guys are really performing well.

That’s how I read it at least.

That was my thought. He's CONSISTENTLY getting beat...which could mean he's actually doing it right and we can't tell cuz it's one on one, and shitty cell phone video with no depth perception.

MahomesMagic 08-09-2021 10:41 AM

With a mobile QB like Mahomes it looks like a change in philosophy on the OL.

Don't get beat right in front (guard-center-guard) and tackles just need to not get him blasted right away.

If someone has to take a long arc to Mahomes around Orlando Brown it's too easy for Mahomes to step up up or around and fire.

I can't wait!!!!

Are there any guys like that this year? I can't think of any on-the-bubble guys that everybody thinks will make the roster.

A lot of young guys are impressing, but they can't all make the roster. There's going to be a surprise cut or two that has people going, "whhaaaaaat?" It's just math.

It honestly just might be somebody like Deandre Baker. Not trying to pick on or single him out specifically, but it's going to be somebody like him.

He had one of the best MPH readings at the Senior Bowl. He’s not a burner, but his speed is adequate. I’m sure he’s not playing as fast because of the mental aspect right now though.

He isn't looking great in 1-on-1 pass blocking drills, but those are tough for offensive linemen. Let the big fella get downhill and rough some of the other guys up. After getting walloped a few times I'm guessing they'll have a little less gas to give him trouble off the edge.

It's going to be hard for him to create separation with his lack of speed.

He needs to be really crisp on his routes in order to get open. Looks like he has some serious work ahead.

RunKC 08-09-2021 11:53 AM

Joe Thuney is such a calming player. He’s just like Mitch. Does everything really well and is such technically sound that he doesn’t lose often.

Humphrey is very similar as well.

Great to see our interior be upgraded to such a level. It’s going to help Patrick out so much

Hammock Parties 08-09-2021 11:57 AM

I think the Chiefs are going to absolutely pile up the rushing yards running between C-LG.

This will be really good for the play action boots the other way.

Fun year is coming for Reid.

He isn't looking great in 1-on-1 pass blocking drills, but those are tough for offensive linemen. Let the big fella get downhill and rough some of the other guys up. After getting walloped a few times I'm guessing they'll have a little less gas to give him trouble off the edge.

Took him forever to come out of that break. Not a great rep.

I'm not into "Jump ball" receivers as ive stated many times.

However, Powell DOES do a great job of creating separation at the point of the catch. He seems to have a knack for it.

I don't think he's pigeon holed into "jump ball guy" per se, but i do think he's a guy that will have to run "strong" routes if that makes any sense. Bodying up a guy to gain leverage. Running through bump n run coverage, or just plain running through a guy who's trying to squeeze him, and then creating the separation at the point of the catch.

He's got those seemingly Stretch Armstrong arms.

Kinda reminds me of Chris Chambers in that way. Chris Chambers might be a good pro comp, i'll have to look at that.

Powell’s speed is fine.

There is a reason he was described as our “post up WR” to replace Watkins by the scouts.

It's not speed with Powell, it's quickness.

Not everyone is Tyreek Hill.. We’ve been spoiled.. Travis gets open easy enough.. Powell will be fine once he learns the playbook and gets comfortable..

This will be really good for the play action boots the other way.

Fun year is coming for Reid.

C-RG too. Smith appears to be a mauler.

O.city 08-09-2021 12:19 PM

Separation is more important in today's NFL for a WR.

Perfecting route running will help him. Also, expectations for him need to be in line with him as a player. He's not likely gonna be a #1 WR ever, maybe a mid #2 or good #3.

And that's ok.

Kelce is incredibly quick out of his breaks plus he's one of the best route runners in the league.

I jizz every time I see this one:

Vol fan here checking in on Trey Smith. Don’t really see anything about him. How is he doing? I hope well as I think he has the potential to be a 10 yr guard in the league.

Haven't seen anything about him? HAHAHA

Dude is the toast of the town right now. There hasn't been a day in which people aren't fawning over him.

We've been thrilled with him since the day he was drafted, from his film room videos all the way to his camp 1v1's etc.

Dude pretty much took the RG spot back in minicamp and hasnt looked back.

No shit. Jones is kicking everyone's ass. He may be the DPOY at this rate of kicking ass.

He has a above average speed, size, and he’s excellent when the ball is in the air. His body control and ability to adjust to the ball are 2 of his best traits.

You can’t have it all in a 5th round pick.

O.city 08-09-2021 12:57 PM

Best case scenario, he's a nice WR, contributes and plays special teams.

Iron sharpens iron. I like it.

I’m hoping blocking lesser DLs feels easy for this OL in a couple weeks.

Likely wont play much this year if history is any indication. I cant think of a WR other than Hill that got significant snaps during the year as a rookie. Wilson played like 2 games at the end of the year and Conley didnt play til he was forced to when Maclin went down.

Every time i hear someone talking about Rodgers press conference and how guys were treated on the way out i think of Maclin and Dorsey. And wonder if that GB attitude is what got him ran out.

I'm just sad every time I see a GIF from last year's playoff run.

Those two games were so fun.

But I guess were just not used to that kind of disappointment.

Probably just the newness of winning playoff games regularly...they can't all result in SBs.

God damn. He is really going all out studying guys like Khalil Mack to steal moves from.

This is going to be a special season for CJ.

My biggest takeaway thus far, is just how deep and slam full of potential our trenches are now

If they are indeed where games are won or lost, we’ll come damn close to running the table

The sheer amount of positive news coming out of this camp is shocking

This team has the gleam, boys

Mahomes will have time to throw.

We will have an effective running game again.

Our pass rush will be better than expected (maybe upper third).

We’ll be around average against the run.

If Chris Jones is elite at DE like he likely could be, do we NEED a DE high in the draft next year?

If the draft didn’t fall our way, I don’t think we necessarily have to go after any position

DT because Reed is only here for a year and Nnadi is a free agent
