On the contrary, that was legit as they come. Just basketball players playing basketball for the love of the game with no other distractions. Just a great end to that season.

Is there a difference between the best and greatest players of all time? Who would you choose for each?
Quote:

Yes and people confuse the two fairly often

"Greatest" requires dominance and longevity.

"Best" simply requires dominance.

Megatron has a legitimate argument for being the "best receiver ever" but has no argument for being the "greatest receiver ever."
Quote:

Yes, there is a difference. Greatness implies legacy and awe, while best is a simple comparison of two players at their prime. You could make an argument that Rodgers is the BEST QB of all time given his prime is arguably stronger than any other QB's prime. However, there isn't any credible argument that Rodgers is the GREATEST QB of all time.

Same thing for Randy Moss vs Jerry Rice. Gronk vs Gonzales. There are many examples of the difference.
See, Reddit knows. Legacy and awe...you don't get better than LeBron in that regard.

That's why I (and other KU fans) do it for them.

They're happy to claim titles that some breadmaker gave them 20 years after the fact, though...

Well if Reddit says so, it must be true. That reminds me of the old State Farm commercial involving the "French model". Now subtract the three college years that Lebron did not have to play and now he only has two more ASGs. It's sad that you have to resort to longevity because every other significant metric favors Jordan. You are a KU fan, should Sayers be in the HOF as he had very little longevity?

And that's yet another point in my favor on that issue. Where was the tournament in those years? KU absolutely should have claimed it like those.

They were the best team in 2020 and finished on the top of the polls as champions.

Sassy Squatch 06-01-2023 04:09 PM

Well, they didn't and they aren't recognized as 2020 champions.

Well they're right about that. Everyone knows there is a distinction there. LeBron's ridiculous longevity is not the only reason why he's the GOAT, but it's certainly the biggest. Nobody has ever come close to being as good as him for as long as him. The guy just averaged a 30 point triple double in the WCFs in year 20 with a torn tendon in his foot.

GOAT stuff.

Check out who ended up #1 on the final polls.

Not even close to a real title.

Sassy Squatch 06-01-2023 04:13 PM

That's neat. Ranking #1 on the AP poll at end of season =\= being National Champions of NCAA Basketball in 2020. Hence why Kansas doesn't claim to be and they aren't recognized as such.

They don't claim to be because they have too much pride as a historic program to do it. I don't have that problem.

They were the best team and finished as the best team as recognized by the AP and Coaches (who have recognized champions in college sports for decades and decades). Hence they were the champions of 2020.

If you feel that strongly about it perhaps write a letter stating how you feel to them. But unfortunately as it stands now no, they aren't recognized or claim to be the NCAA Basketball Champions of 2020.

I don't need to write a letter to make the claim that they were champions of the 2020 season. I'm doing it here because it happened.

It is a perfectly logical position to take considering the history of college sports and their champions, one that nobody can actually refute.

ChiefsCountry 06-01-2023 04:41 PM

Claiming KU is the 2020 national champion is dumber than the Jordan vs LeBron dick measuring contest
