The warning signs were there early when they just didn’t bother to even try at Creighton and especially Missouri. If you can’t even get up for a Missouri road game, that’a a problem.

I think they should have been the leaders and tone setters and the tone was a bad one

Griffen also indicated this after the game last night but the team never truly recovered after that historic collapse against Houston (precipitated mostly by Mayo and Harris). They never executed down the stretch of any game after that and it just felt like they generally lacked confidence in big moments particularly after that point.

There were structural issues even despite that (starting two players that opposing teams simply didn’t guard put everyone else in a bad spot) but when you don’t play harder than anyone else and you don’t execute when it matters, it’s a pretty awful combination to have in a team.

Imo, it was mostly due to subpar coaching. When the same bad tendencies are persistent all season, that's coaching.

Kansas senior forward KJ Adams Jr. sustained an Achilles injury late in Thursday's 79-72 loss to Arkansas, according to coach Bill Self.

"We're hopeful for the best tomorrow, but I'm not sure it's going to be great news," Self said. "It's one thing to lose the game, but to see him potentially lose a year on top of the game, that's a pretty big blow."

Lose a year? Is he referring to a year of his personal life for recovery?

Kind of an odd quote about a guy with no eligibility remaining.

I think he means a year of playing ball. He could have gone overseas and played and made some money.

I don't care what your silly stats say Hunter Dickinson is a piece of shit who along with Harris ruined the KU program the past two years. Those are two guys who just don't give a ****. I definitely don't want to see his jersey hung up in the rafters.

Dickinson is the only reason this team was even in the tournament the past 2 years. That’s how poorly constructed the team around him was (and that starts and ends with Bill Self sticking with KJ and Harris).

If they can find a way to bring KJ back for another season, they’ll make it happen.

I hope DJay above is correct in his interpretation, because that really reads like Self is talking about a guy with another year of eligibility.

You mean to tell me that Bill Self. Hall of Famer Bill Self after going a quarter of a century being a top 4 seed. A plethora of #1 seeds. Had he not had Hunter freaking Dickinson the last two years he would have missed the tournament.

You're high.

Yes and without any doubt. They got outscored this year overall when he wasn’t on the floor. Simply a dreadful offensive team whenever he was on the bench:

Mike Vernon
@M_Vernon
KU’s +/- with Hunter Dickinson this season:

— ON the court: +230 (best on team)
— OFF the court: -8

He’s the only player where KU had a negative +/- when he wasn’t out there.

Pants 03-22-2025 04:21 PM

I feel like you don't need to understand ball to realize that Hunter was performing miracles out there when the opposing teams literally did not bother to guard TWO other players on the floor.

What do you think is going to happen when Hunter is constantly double and tripled team? Every team was sagging off KJ and Harris and cheating down low.

Is Hunter frustrating to watch at times? Yes. Would he be even more dominant if Harris and KJ could do ANYTHING on offense? Obviously.

Bearcat 03-22-2025 05:21 PM

You know the argument has reached a new level of hyperbole when a player who went 6 weeks during conference play without a double-double and spent the entire second half of a tournament game shitting down his leg (and not scoring a single point) is being described as 'performing miracles'.

And that's another easy layup with Dickinson nowhere to be seen, you'd think after a while he'd learn how to defend a pick and rooooh no Jim, he's turning water into wine at the 3 point line again!

It's getting kinda gross up in here.

Alex Smith territory, we need Sweet Daddy Hate to chime in.

The new thread is open for anyone who wants to be done with this conversation.

Bearcat has the ban hammer cocked and ready though.
