Bowlen has NO SAY in the matter. NONE.

The dudes have been friends for twenty #$%^%* years. Wake up. The world doesn't revolve around the desires of Chiefs Planeteers.

he would actually only be paying him for the amount of his balance of his contract to coach the broncos, the chiefs would be paying for his coaching duties:D

I am sure he wouldn't be happy about it but he should have thought about that before he fired him.

Also from what I understand Bowlen owes alot of money to the coaches that he let go this past month so I am sure he would like for some of them to get jobs so he doesn't have to pay the full amount.

In the end Bowlen is a business man and I am sure he would rather pay $3.5 million instead of $7 million.

What the **** does friendship have to do with business? Not a damn thing. I have no doubts Shanahan RESPECTS Bowlen, but you're ****ing crazy if you think Shanahan isn't going to look out for himself before he looks out for Bowlen. He doesn't owe Bowlen jack doo diddly squat. He was FIRED. Do you not comprehend that? FIRED by his BFF.

No. That's the price for a top coach who's also a GM. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

WRONG. That was for Holmgren - Head Coach Holmgren - with no GM duties. Keep up. As someone (I'll put the name in later*) said above, it was probably inflated to get Holmgren to give up the GM role - which is exactly what I've been saying, it will cost MORE to hire Shanahan without the GM role.

People are fooling themselves if they think Shanahan isn't at least a LITTLE pissed off at Bowlen. Football is Mike Shanahan's life. Quarterbacks are the biggest part of that life. Three years ago Shanahan drafted a franchise quarterback and he was just beginning to pay off. Pat Bowlen took Jay Cutler away from Mike Shanahan.

It's sort of like if FOX had fired George Lucas after he had worked on Star Wars for two years and given it to another director. Do you not think he would be pissed off at FOX? Do you not think he would want to go to a competing studio and make a similar science fiction epic?

Oh yeah, this is like the end of Aliens, make no mistake. Jay Cutler is newt. Pat Bowlen is the alien queen. And Mike Shanahan just got in his power loader and yelled "GET AWAY FROM HER YOU BITCH!"

What does businessman Mike Shanahan owe the Hunts? Why would he take less from them than anyone else? What makes you think the Chiefs can get Shanahan - or anyone - at subprime?

Remember - Shanahan gets the $7 million if he does NOTHING. The scenario ESPN offered doesn't make him one extra cent.

Cost more?? That's ****ing absurd.

Even including Holmgren it still averages out to $3.25 mil. and he's GONE-we should technically take him out of the equation.

I expect Shanny will make more than $3.25 million, but you need reservations for the looney bin, if you think it will cost $8-9 million to sign Shanny as just the Head Coach. NFW.

HE WOULDN'T GET ONE EXTRA CENT FROM THE ESPN SCENARIO THAN IF HE DID NOTHING AT ALL!!!!!!!!

dirk digler 01-23-2009 10:06 PM

I imagine Holmgren's salary wasn't adjusted down when his GM duties were stripped.

"Hello..?"
"Yes, a collect call for Mrs. Floyd from Mr. Floyd.
Will you accept the charges from United States?"

"Oh, He hung up! That's your residence, right? I wonder why he hung up?
Is there supposed to be someone else there besides your wife there to answer?"

"Hello?"
"This is united states calling, are we reaching..."

"See he keeps hanging up, and it's a man answering."

Actually that's an apt comparison. I fully remember Carl was described as this young football golden boy and a savior to a franchise that hired him, much the same way Pioli is now. Then he hired a successful established HC, much like Pioli (seemingly) has now. He is comparing the situations, not the collective talents. I think Carl was good until he became too big in this organization.

A league official noted that there was "no way" the Chiefs could be negotiating or near a deal with Shanahan because the team must comply with the Rooney Rule that requires interviewing minority candidates. The source said Hunt would be the last owner not to comply.
The last owner not to comply? What about THE ROONEYS?
