It’s a shame that Allen did Allen stuff on that, really overshadows Ingrams insane rush

It shows the issue being a culprit folks might not expect... Armani Watts. There were some plays early in that drive for the Bills' last TD where Watts was "wrong" and it left Davis wide open. Plays where if you substitute Mathieu and his superior instincts and experience, he probably isn't "wrong" and the throw is at least tough for Allen.

Props to Gabriel Davis, though. That route he ran across Hughes where Hughes fell down was brilliantly executed. If Hughes manages to keep his feet as he reacts, I think it's still a TD because the route was so well run, but Hughes would at least have had an opportunity to make a play.

I also can't watch the last 2 minutes without wondering how different it all is if the Bills are facing a 30-21 deficit like they should have been.

Do they use designed runs for Allen as liberally in that situation as they did in this case? (I suspect not, which also eases what KC has to worry about on D).

I think in that scenario the Bills likely still score, but the Chiefs get the ball back and kill the clock in their 4-minute offense.

Outcome is obviously a Chiefs win, but it would have been a very different feel. And there would be a lot more talk about the defense playing really well without Mathie to hold the Bills to 28 points.

Yeah, I cussed Watts out biggly on that last TD to Davis 'round here somewhere.

He's the ****ing trail safety. He has one job, especially when he knows that Snead is playing outside leverage. And he dives on the underneath route instead of getting back into the lane over the middle.

That TD was 100% on Watts, IMO. It was just an awful play if for no other reason than if he plays it right, it's probably a game-ending interception. You could see Burrow was dialed in on Davis that whole time and didn't really even try to look Watts off.

I think Mathieu gets his hands on that pass pretty easily and possibly even picks it off. It was bad.

THAT'S the CEH we saw at LSU. I mean that's a carbon copy.

He presses the A gap to draw the LBer toward the line of scrimmage, then he hits that little jump cut through the B gap to break into space and the LB has already taken himself out of the hole.

That's the guy we thought we were getting and that's exactly the best use of him. Gotta let him use that patience and short area quickness. Giving him designed runs out wide doesn't do that.

So why isn’t he starting?!

I first read that as most inactive linebacker I've ever worked with. haha

Saw a pretty interesting point from Matt Verderame. The only teams that have gone to 3 straight Super Bowls are from the AFC East: Dolphins, Bills, Patriots. That's a pretty wild piece of trivia for NFL history. Chiefs have a chance to do something pretty special.

I just realized that the last time the Bengals were in the AFC Championship Game, the Chiefs hadn’t hired Marty Schottenheimer yet.

Wow!

He's been starting for several weeks.

Did he against Buffalo?

CBS’ graphic to the start the game just showed Hitchens and Gay as the Chiefs starting LB’s.

Considering we run a base 4-3 and they put up a nickel defense package, I wouldn't put too much stock in that.

Bolton has gotten at least 50% of the snaps in 3 of the last 5 weeks and in those 5 weeks, he has more reps than Hitchens in 3 of 5 games as well.

Remember we play a ton of sub-packages. Very few guys on the defense play every down.

htismaqe 01-27-2022 06:13 PM

Hitchens played 27 snaps against the Bills. Niemann 22.

Bolton played 37 and Gay 42.

Gay and Bolton are pretty clearly the "starters".

I had forgotten the Cincinnati game was when Brown went out in warm ups...the LG (Thuney) played make-shift LT on the fly. That was pretty impressive...and KC nearly put up 35 in the first half...

This game will be ALL about our front four.

They do need a much stronger pass rush than we've seen lately.

But the KC offense also needs to play clean football. 2 turnovers including a fumble TD against the Steelers. We all know the turnover problems earlier in the season. Cannot afford that type of nonsense at this point of the playoffs.

jettio 01-27-2022 07:40 PM

I just looked up Lunar New Year a/k/a Asian New Year and it is February 1, 2022, and it is Year of the Tiger.

That some genuine bullshit there. Maybe the nuts around here who say the NFL is rigged are on to something.

If Mahomes can lead the Chiefs to sending the Bengals home on the eve of the Year of the Tiger, the NFL ought to go ahead and name the league MVP Trophy after him.
