They put a team together that was the best in baseball for 2.5 years. Last half of the 13 season they were on a ****ing tear.
Then after yo died and all the injuries hit we just didn't have it.

Those couldn't be seen.

It was the perfect storm of players who believed in each other and one of the best bullpens that baseball has ever seen.

Jerok 07-09-2018 04:36 PM

Here is the fact: Every team who wins the World Series gets lucky. Sometimes it's because they avoided getting unlucky. A key injury or two and most teams wouldn't make it. The Royals avoided injuries and fielded healthy teams in the playoffs.

Some teams get lucky and get suddenly hot in the playoffs - the Royals hit a lot more home runs in the 2014 playoffs than they were expected to.

You can say the same thing for most teams. Some are just absolutely stacked, like this years Yankees, but even they don't have depth everywhere. If Severino gets injured they wouldn't stand a chance against the Sox or the Astros.

Take the championships when you can get them. Who cares if you get lucky. Embrace the luck and hope it happens again in the next decade.

Naw, I was at that game and we weren't laughing but we weren't crying either. We knew we had a very good YOUNG team that was just not ready to win a game like that yet. We all felt that our time would come soon enough... We all knew that it was the turning point in the series - if Correa fields the rather routine play cleanly, the Stros probably win the series. I say probably, because that Royals team was VERY TOUGH to beat. They really played like Champions. They were special... We as Astros fans wanted our team to be like them. Fast forward two years and we are. Only we now hope to have a much longer run as contenders. I think we will.

I, as well as most Astros fans, have a LOT of RESPECT for that '15 Royals team. Since we couldn't win the World Series, we were happy that the Royals did. The Astros players will tell you than to a man - and they did when asked.

BWillie 07-09-2018 04:53 PM

The Royals are on the level of ineptitude never seen before. What have they lost, 28 of the last 32? This is fantastic. Lets beat that 04 or 05 Detroit Tiger squad. We can do it.

Trade them all and let this team fry. Get draft picks. Watch Pratto bust. Life is fun

Exactly. IMO, the Astros won it last year because they were "lucky" to be able to avoid the Indians. The Tribe just had our number last year. We would invent ways to lose to them. NOBODY wanted to face them and I'd bet the players themselves didn't like that match-up either. BUT, once the Yankees knocked the Indians out, we were like , "Oh - Oh - We now HAVE a REAL chance!" And what a run it was - going through 3 of the League's most storied franchises in the Red Sox, Yankees and Dodgers en route to winning the team's 1st World Series!

I'll take the "LUCK" of not facing the Indians any day...;)

Even then, the 2015 Royals suffered significant injuries to Gordo (the best hitter on our team when he went down). Holly (how many teams would be able to shoulder the loss of their closer who had 46 saves and a 1.44 ERA the year before?) and Rios (whose hand was never fully healthy through the season).

Sure, Rios and Gordo bounced back in the playoffs, but the fact the Royals won home field advantage despite these injuries is a testament to just how good the 2015 team was.

Oh yeah, no disrespect to Astros fans at all. The 15 series singlehandedly won me to the Stros bandwagon for the 17 playoffs - ya’ll had so many players worth rooting for and played with an enthusiastic energy that was fun to watch (unlike the Jays, for instance).

My needling was meant more for the Reddit and some pockets of the advanced statistic community, who couldn’t fathom how a “contact” team would be able to compete with power hitting squads like Houston and Toronto.

OKchiefs 07-09-2018 05:32 PM

Personally I'm not complaining at all about the team we had that won it all. I think we got lucky, but I'm fine with that. We deserved some luck. My complaint/concern is that going forward I doubt we can replicate that winning formula in the same way. I think we have some serious shortcomings in our player development, and I'm skeptical about our ability to improve that under the current regime. I hope I'm wrong, but we need to start seeing results.

Glad those who wanted to resign Hosmer are looking like idiots.

He’s not a great hitter and barely above average. Maybe even right at average given his corner power numbers.

Pathetic he never learned to adjust.

Hilarious people ripping on the Royals players after they're gone. Hosmer is a pos now? JFC I will always love those players regardless if they are not superstars then or now. They were good and an awesome team. 2014-2015 was magic...some of you don't deserve those seasons.

Yes I'd love sustained success going forward and hope GMDM can do it again. We'll see. They got alot of work to do and need to hit with their picks.

I will forever love Hos. My highest repped post ever was a full love letter about his performance in the 2015 postseason. I just have a habit for keeping an eye on past Royals players after they've left. I wish everyone who was a part of that 2014-2015 run (even Dusty Coleman) nothing but the best.

By the time someone has been a professional for 10 years you're kinda passed that point.

This will sound bad but Hosmer is an example of a guy that should have had some serious hard ass coaching in the minors, he goes into slumps because he's stubborn as ****.

@FlannyMLB: An AL East scout told me last night: "I think someone will bite on Lucas Duda as a lefty bat off the bench. They won't get enough for Duffy or Merrifield to move them. They’ll definitely move Moustakas and he will help someone. Won’t get the big return. Doesn’t happen anymore."

I take what a scout says with a grain of salt. The scout isn't making the final decision, and they don't have a read on what every other team is willing to give up in a trade.

While on the topic of former players, Lorenzo Cain continues to be ****ing awesome. This season he’s added a level of plate discipline that is pushing him into an elite offensive category. The dude just got selected to another All Star Game, to boot.

It will be worth watching to see if Moose has a similar transition while sporting other colors. If so, it will warrant analysis on if our org is continuing to preach a free swinging philosophy from top to bottom.

Ended up switching over the to the A's/Astros game, and might have seen the craziest ending of the year. A's scored to take the lead in the 11th. Astros come back to tie it off Treinen, who hadn't blown a save since April.

Bregman gets up with a runner on 2nd. Hits a dribbler that starts foul and ends up fair down 5 feet down the first base line. A's catcher Lucroy runs out and grabs it, tries to tag him, drops the ball. Bregman takes off for first, Lucroy throws it to 1st and it goes into RF and the Astros win. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

Read an article where Trevor Oaks and Frank Schwindel played in the AAA all star game. So, I looked up Schwindel's stats and noticed Omaha has him listed as an outfielder. He has 15 HR's this year. O'Hearn, who has been playing 1st has 11. I wonder what the long term plans are for these guys?

My parents and some of my aunts and uncles still watch every Royals game out of habit. I know they didn't do that back in like 2005. We'll see how long it lasts. They're not really in the "root for the #1 draft pick and certain players to boost their trade value" mold.

Exactly. The Royals have a surplus in my fandom bank account. We are good for a decade or so. Back to back WS? That was amazing.

Greg Bird has started producing a little bit the last few days, which probably hasn't helped.

Angels are pretty much sellers now. Might be down to the Phillies, and we might have to wait on Machado for that. I don't think we have any idea what the Braves are going to do yet.

I can’t remember, why did we dump him?
