True. But Cincinnati should have a get out of Buffalo card as well. Lets just move all of Buffalo's games to a neutral site.

Why should Buffalo get home field advantage in this situation? Very strong possibility they were going to lose the other night. Both of those teams already dodged 85% of the risk of an injured roster by only playing 15% of the game the other night. Meanwhile KC and every other team has to play a full 17 game schedule.

The two main proposals are...

1 seed gets to pick bye or home field throughout playoffs.

2 seed gets what is not picked.

The other proposal which is supposedly leading says KC gets bye but any AFC Champaignship game involving Buffalo or Cincinnati gets to a neutral site.

I just think Buffalo will lose anyway, hence my "generosity".

Gravedigger 01-05-2023 12:18 PM

If they don't want to play to makeup the game then they take the tie, then when the press release comes out announcing the decision the NFL says the Bengals and Bills didn't want to take the tie so they'll play the game, that was the NFL has no blowback for the decision because the teams made it imo.

Why not 16 per conference? We should add the SEC, too! I'm sure they had a hard time watching the game!

My son's peewee team should get home field!!!!!

Nothing against you Renegade, I'm just tired of scenarios that hand teams something they didn't earn.

Quote:

The NFL continues to discuss and deliberate the unfinished Bills-Bengals game from Week 17.

Nothing is official yet. Here’s what we currently know.

Bills-Bengals most likely will not be played. The players don’t want to do it. And there’s no good way to fit it into the schedule.

The best bad solution in this regard would be to play the NFC wild-card round and Bills-Bengals next weekend, with the AFC wild-card round being played the next weekend. This would wipe out the week between the conference championships and the Super Bowl. There’s no appetite for that approach.

The question then becomes seeding the AFC playoffs without Bills-Bengals. Winning percentage becomes the most obvious method. But there are concerns about equity, given that the winner of the Bills-Bengals game would have been in position to be one of the top seed AFC seeds.

One possibility would be to add an eighth team to the playoff field in the AFC. This would eliminate the bye for the No. 1 seed.

To ensure competitive balance, there would have to be eight teams in the NFC, too.

The NFL Players Association would have to agree to a temporary expansion of the playoff field.

Discussions also are continuing on the possibility of making the AFC Championship a neutral-site game. The problem with this approach is that if, for example, a team other than the Bills, Chiefs, or Bengals qualifies for the game, there’s no need to use a neutral site.

However it plays out, a decision needs to be made soon — especially if the playoff field will unexpectedly grow, in both conferences. It changes the dynamics for the teams vying for playoff positioning.

I would agree, but there's no way in hell that will happen. Firstly, it removes a game from the schedule (read: $$$). But beyond that, fans of the teams on the bubble right now would be irate if they suddenly had nothing to play for this weekend.

Why is the league so bent to screw the Chiefs???

The simple solution, if they do not play the postponed game, and if the Chiefs beat LV then they get the #1 seed and bye...the only thing I would do different is have the Bills #2 seed play the Bengals #3 seed at the Bengals stadium during the divisional round as the Bengals earned that right by winning at the time of the game stoppage.

That makes no sense. The Bengals earned the right to override the seeding because they had a 4 point lead in the first quarter??

If the Chiefs beat the Raiders and the Bills beat the patriots then the Bills would need to play the Bengals to see if they would get the 1 seed

If the Bills lose to the Patriots but the Chiefs win then it's not really a thing

If both the Chiefs and Bills lose but the Bengals win they would need to play to see if the Bengals would get the 1

I'm guessing they will re-visit after this weekends games.

Bengals also agreed not to play.

Both sides agreed.

It's a DNP if I've ever seen one.

Yet they probably accepted their paychecks for the game as if they had played.

Heh, the NHL at least has the competitive balance to handle 16 teams... the NFL could barely even support 12 playoff teams and 14 is absurd (see the Steelers and even Patriots from last season).

Hamlin: "Who won the game?"

Doctors: "No one, your team walked off the field and quit."

He used one of those little pointing sticks to spell out, "Why didn't those p******s keep playing?" It was awkward because the pointing stick thing doesn't have an asterisk.

Hammock Parties 01-05-2023 12:52 PM

Hamlin: "Who won the game?"

Doctors: "The Chiefs."

Hamlin: "UNACCEPTABLE! EXPAND THE PLAYOFF FIELD TO 8 TEAMS AND NO ONE GETS A BYE!"
