We have a consultation tomorrow with the lawyer, hopefully we get some good news.

So the complex is suing you?

Surely $235K can't be the damage. There wasn't that much bad there.

Yes we did, but they cancelled it on us without notification. We had to have it if we used charcoal, that's pretty much the only reason why we had it.

If you were still paying your premiums, how could they cancel your insurance without notification?

We had automatic withdraw, we didn't notice that they stopped taking out the funds. It was only about $23 a month so we're not going to see it.

A lot of people are saying the same thing. I don't see how myself.

Sounds like you have a good case against the insurance company. I'm not sure what the law is in California, but I know in certain states it is illegal to cancel someone's insurance without proper notification.

Damn Inmen. That some sucky shit you gotta go through. Battling the insurance company is NOT fun. Good luck man. We give you shit about that but do wish you the best possible outcome and are glad no one was injured.

Only thing I can think of is if they had to move a bunch of people out and have lost rent for several months. Or there was smoke damage to a shitload of other units.

Good luck man. Let me know what the lawyer says. PM me if you don't want it public. Hopefully they negotiate to a few thousand or you can extract something from the insurance company.

Hopefully your lawyer is good. Coincidentally I've been (ancillarily) exposed to s shitton of bad lawyering recently.

Hope it works out for you Inmen.

I have a feeling it will.

It's the biggest scam going. Everywhere else they call it gambling, it's just a huge money grab.

Yea, unless they document that you gave notice to waive the insurance, they can't just stop it. It's automatic renewal until cancelled in most states.

Well after talking with a couple of lawyers & bankruptcy lawyers, our only option was to file chapter 13 bankruptcy and be placed on a tight spending budget for the next 5 years. We made too much money to file Chapter 7 which was our first choice.

They also recommended that we call the insurance company to see if they'll settle and THEY DID!!!! We offered our minimum, but it wasn't going our way. After negotiating for about 5-8 minutes I offered 20k and they accepted. Our savings isn't touched, thank god for a good job bonus and income taxes :D

Also, when filing Chapter 13 you have to keep in contact with them if the wife and I were to get any pay increases, if so they'll be able to adjust our income and disposable income, it would have been a mess.

Jesus, that's still not great.

So did not having renter's insurance **** you? Or wouldn't it have mattered as they could have claimed negligence on your part anyway?
