He's a FA next year. Even if that were the case, that is less cap next year.

Money has to be paid somewhere.

Looking at the incentives, he's probably hitting 8 easy.

We have a shit ton of cap space next year. It’s inconsequential.

These incentives - if earned - will be paid the following year.

Your argument is about the cap this year and how JuJu+MVS+Clark = what we would've paid Hill this year.

Hence, this is relevant to the argument.

It's always consequential. You can maneuver the cap but the $$$ always have to be paid somewhere.

Cap dollars next year are still cap dollars. They don't cost less because they are in a different year.

You were talking about THIS YEAR. Now you're talking about next year.

Which is it?

For the people in the back:

AND THAT'S WHY VEACH DIDN'T PAY TYREEK HILL

I hear you. For me it's a clear loss for the 2022 season, but I had low expectations anyway given our cap situation and what other teams had done to improve. Beyond that if we make some of the right decisions/picks this could be a reset move that sets us up wonderfully for Mahomes Phase 2.0.

The Chiefs clearly didn't go into the offseason with this as their Plan A, but the Adams deal changed things and this is the direction they're going in. And while it sucks to lose Hill, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't quite excited about watching this all play out.

No part of me is ecstatic - I promise!

All good, I reckon that's a good take.

Yes, they do. Because the cap goes up each year. So paying a player 10mm in year 1 with the cap at 100mm (10%) is different from paying 10mm in year 5 with the cap at 150mm (6.7%).

And the entire point was that it's difficult to fill out a roster THIS season if we're paying Hill.

Hill was on the books for 2022 at $21M - highest cap hit for any WR in the league.

He was cost-prohibitive even before his new deal.

Tyreek is still the better value.

The reality contract numbers are 2 years 18 million for MVS and 4 years 95 million for Tyreek. 9mil a year vs. 23 mil a year. If you think Tyreek is at least 2x better than MVS, then he's 100% the right move.

And we would have still gotten juju in this case.

You're not considering the value that other $14m are going to bring.

It’s amazing that you guys don’t see the real picture here. This was a blessing in disguise if next month goes well

jd1020 03-25-2022 10:46 AM

I don't know why this signing has to be related to Hill.

I'm sitting here just looking at what this guy offers and saying

Is there really no straight line runner in the draft that can be had on the 3rd day?
