They just announced it. Braves and Mets are postponed the next two days and they'll play a doubleheader on Monday. Means the Braves are going to be fresh for us this weekend but they've gotta save arms for Monday too because those two games will probably decide a playoff spot.

So Sale was scheduled to pitch tonight, and Fried on Thursday. It will be interesting to see when they will resume pitching. On Monday's DH, or the Royals games.

Yeah it turns out they aren't going to play if the games don't matter, the question is does that include seeding. The Braves are team on the outside looking in so they'd need the other teams to lose. We might need the D'backs particularly to win some games. I don't think the Braves can get far enough past the Mets to lock it up before Monday.

PHOG 09-25-2024 03:37 PM

The Mets, Arizona, and Atlanta are all within a game of each other for the 2nd and 3rd WC berths, and Atlanta currently leads the season series with the Mets 6-5. I'm not sure how it wouldn't matter, but it will be interesting.

The bigger more important matter at hand IMHO is if Sale pitches Friday night now vs. KC. And Fried on Saturday. We we're going to miss these guys in the normal rotation, but now who knows.

Joel Sherman just fired off another tweet saying if the DBacks are eliminated it would be commissioner's decision if the doubleheader is played.

Such complicated math. Looks like the Braves have the tiebreaker on the Dbacks so they'd need to be 1 game ahead of Arizona by Sunday to clinch over them. That's doable, we really need Arizona to win tonight and make this more complicated.

Who the heck would have guessed on opening day we'd be sitting here going into the last weekend rooting for Arizona to beat up on the Giants and Padres. What a mess.

PHOG 09-25-2024 04:01 PM

No doubt.

The other thing is I just saw the National Hurricane Center has upped their forecast for this thing to be a Cat 4 at landfall. Obviously won't be near that in Atlanta but this is going to be a nasty storm. Hopefully we can even play on Friday.

I don't think we entirely know yet, but the Braves vs Mets is postponed the next two days because of the hurricane.

What's 100% true is the Braves were about to use their best 2 starters against the Mets and now those games are moved to Monday for a doubleheader. The Braves are on the outside looking in just behind the Mets and Dbacks.

Who knows if Atlanta throws their best pitchers at us or save them for the potential doubleheader. What we do know is we need the Dbacks to win tonight to put pressure on the Braves and Mets. The more the Dbacks win it forces the Mets and Braves to play hard while possibly saving something for a Monday doubleheader that would decide playoff teams.

No. The storm will basically be through there by Friday night. The only issue may be can the Royals get to Atlanta tomorrow, which would be the same issue the Braves would have potentially getting to KC. Unless they made that decision today, which they aren’t gonna do.

I would be somewhat surprised if they don’t pitch Sale and Fried. There is a theoretical world where the Braves could lose a series to us and if the Mets take care of business vs a nothing to play for Brewers team, the Braves could be out of it by Monday. This would also include the Dbacks stopping their meltdown. The good news is that we will have Lugo and Ragans on Saturday and Sunday so we could maybe get a close or tied game long enough to get into bullpen which becomes more of a crap shoot. Also, he’s good but Fried has not been usual Fried this year. Sale we have almost no chance of getting to and we have Singer on the mound (assuming the Braves do pitch Sale Friday) in an important game on the road. I’d set his IP over/under at 3.5

Soto preceding Witt in the order is the best way to generate runs, imo. Highest obp followed by most xbh equals runs. He also lengthens the lineup and allows the royals to identify a righty leadoff bat. That's a much tougher lineup than whatever is happening now.

Meh. Don’t have 7 game losing streaks in the last 2 weeks of the season and none of this even matters.

The Royals made their bed. Now they have to lay in it.

Finish the sweep of Washington today and win at least one in Atlanta this weekend (regardless of who’s pitching) and they’re likely in.

If they can’t do both of those, they have no business being in the playoffs.

The Jayhawks play at Arrowhead on Saturday afternoon too. I'm not sure how much that would be a potentially conflicting factor on them coming to KC, but it certainly doesn't help.

I'm afraid those 2 7 game losing streaks will keep us out. Atlanta will be fired up to win, we somehow have to get at least 1 win there. If we lose the last game in Wash., we gotta have 2 games in Atlanta. This a fight with Seattle for the last WC spot, Detroit finishing with the White Sox is probably going to sink us!

Detroit is off the table. They are in, there is no way they don't win the series vs the White Sox. The race is between us and MN. We need one win in Atlanta and the Twins to lose one of 4 games. The Twins losing twice would also do the trick. I'd say it's about 70/30 that we make it in. If the Twins win tonight drop that to 60/40 and if they win and we lose tomorrow, it's a good ol' fashioned 50/50

If we make it, I’d much rather play Houston than Baltimore. We actually match up with them pretty well.

The big key is we need to win tomorrow or have Minny lose tonight and tomorrow so we can set our rotation for the series. Singer pitching tomorrow for us. Ideally, would like to save Lugo and Ragans for games 1 & 2 in Houston.

The most likely scenario is they win 2 of 3 vs the White Sox

dlphg9 09-26-2024 02:36 PM

Lol Detroit is 9-1 against the White Sux. I doubt they lose, but maybe the Sux can pull one off.

TomBarndtsTwin 09-26-2024 02:47 PM

The weird thing is the Sux seemed semi motivated right now to NOT get that 121st loss, so they actually played a decent series against the Angels and finished the sweep today, so I think their going to go into Detroit with a little motivation. Of course, that all goes away as soon as they lose one but who knows, maybe Friday they pull off a crazy win?

That said, if we manage to get in, I honestly don’t want to pass Detroit at this point. I’d rather get the last Wild Card and play Houston. We match up better with them. And then if we somehow managed to pull that series off, then we play Cleveland. I like that matchup better than any other potential matchup in the playoffs.

We need to be rooting HARD tonight for Miami and Baltimore. A Baltimore win means a motivated team heads to Minny and still has something to play for (AL East crown).

GO ORIOLES! GO MARLINS!

I'd rather be the 3rd wildcard. Houston on the road then Cleveland in the divisional. If you're the 2, it's Baltimore on the Road then the Yankees in divisional.

7 total games. 4 for the Twins. 3 for us.

We just need 2 good outcomes of those 7.

There’s a lot of ways that this works out for us. Only a handful of ways this works out for the Twins.

Sweeps are hard even against bad teams. I don’t see us getting swept. I don’t see the Twins sweeping Baltimore.

By pulling off the sweep of our own against Washington, I’ll be really surprised if disaster happens. Obviously, it’s possible but sounds unlikely.

Correct. Look, Fried is good and I have zero faith in Singer on the road in a big spot but Sale is a different animal. With Sale you hope your guy can find a way to match his zeros for 7-8 innings and get to their pen late. Fried is good, but he ain’t that.

Correct. Look, Fried is good and I have zero faith in Singer on the road in a big spot but Sale is a different animal. With Sale you hope your guy can find a way to match his zeros for 7-8 innings and get to their pen late. Fried is good, but he ain’t that.

Best case scenario: Marlins win tonight. Singer has the game of his life, we score some runs, and we clinch tomorrow night. Party all night. Shelve Lugo and Ragans, and we get them both fresh for the playoffs next week.

Sound good everyone? Okay, all in on three... ROYALS!

Nah, the best case is twins lose tonight, the Friday Atlanta game gets rain delayed, twins lose tomorrow night, then we throw scrubs this weekend and rest all our starters

I’d like to see the boys clinch with a win. I think they need that moment.

I agree with the getting another win sentiment to seal the deal.

And don't look now, but the Marlins are doing their part... They're up 3-0 in the 5th inning. GO MARLINS GO.

Marlins go up 3-0 in the 5th

Bases loaded now with one out in the 5th. C'mon Marlins, blow this thing open!

TomBarndtsTwin 09-26-2024 06:58 PM

Good news, bad news. NY up 5-0 on Baltimore now, but Miami up 3-0 with 2 runners on and one out.

Need Minny to lose tonight because they may be playing Orioles B team all weekend.

Edit: scratch that. If O’s lose to Yanks they’re still only up 3 on Detroit for Top Wildcard spot and Detroit has tie breaker over Balty. So they’ll be plenty motivated to get that win tomorrow night either way to lock up the Wild Card series at home instead of on the road.

So Yankees game outcome less important now.

Marlins get a run on a throw home with drawn in infield but the catcher dropped it.

cmh6476 09-26-2024 07:11 PM

Trying to switch to mlb network to see if I can catch an update on the twins game from the NFL game between commercials on prime is not convenient

DJay23 09-26-2024 07:15 PM

Marlins stranded the bases loaded in the top of the 5th by the way and then got a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half. One out in the top of the 6th, still 4-0 Marlins.

I'm watching the Marlins broadcast and they have commented on how tight they thing the Twins look. People in the crowd are getting restless.

162-game schedule, nobody gives a shit if you get in with a win. Just get in.

Valente Bellozo was masterful, keeping the Twins off-guard with his 90-mph fastball. Correa was the only one that had his number. He threw him a cement mixer.

I agree. Who cares. Just get in.

Marlins get out of the 6th.

On the 7th, 4-1 Marlins

smithandrew051 09-26-2024 07:28 PM

I like seeing that bullpen arm come in and immediately get out of the inning

dallaschiefsfan 09-26-2024 07:29 PM

Omaha seems to be taking care of business.

tk13 09-26-2024 07:31 PM

Omaha has taken a 7-3 lead in the final game of the International League championship series. They're 3 innings away from the International League title if they can hold on.

TLO 09-26-2024 07:32 PM

GO MARLINS GO

Ocotillo 09-26-2024 07:32 PM

The Twins are in total playoff mode. Griffin Jax, one of their two relief aces, comes in to keep the deficit at three runs.

They used him kind of early last night too.

ChiTown 09-26-2024 07:36 PM

To the bottom of the 7th

4-1 Fish

GabyKeepsMeWarm 09-26-2024 07:46 PM

Oh boy, big spot in the Marlins game. Runners on 2nd and 3rd, two outs...
