I wouldn't call it w/ ease. The last 2 games were very hard fought games.
But I agree to a point. This year ended up being kind of a down year nationally for men's cbb. There isn't that 1 or 2 teams that are head and shoulders above everyone else, although Kansas is kind of separating themselves from the pack, they've played pretty well the past 3-4 wks against good ranked competition. But I guess we'll see if the Big12 conference is the tough conference we all think it is, or if it's just a paper tiger conference (again), let's face it the conference hasn't exactly impressed in the big dance in recent memory.
I don't think it would've mattered this year heading into the Big12 tourney how the Jayhawks finished, they probably would have still received that #1 overall seed in the Midwest region. But you still want to win every game you can to keep morale up and keep that wave of success heading into the tournament. Sometimes it's not the best team, but the hottest team that makes it the furthest, UConn, Duke to name a couple recent teams. KU s playing well and is closing out and winning ball games right now, it's probably best they continue that success because now, everything else that Kansas has previously done, won't matter. It's win or go home - season over.
Kansas is the only 30 win team in the country. They've been ranked #1 for almost the past month, and it's the 2nd time this season they've been ranked #1 while staying in the top 5 for the majority of the season. They've won their 12th straight conference title in a conference where there were 3 other teams respectively in the top 10 at one point or another during the season. They've been battle tested and have been able to win close games. They're all healthy, and there aren't any players w/ any eligibility issues heading into the dance. They get to play in Des Moines and Chicago so that's also in their favor. Anything less than a NC at this point is a failure. It's tough to look at it that way and being KU, the bar is already set really high. They're not going to face a better defense than what they saw Sat w/ WV. Self said he feels better about this team more so now than he's ever been. It seems they've found their groove. Now they have to win against opponents they don't normally play or scout and they have a short time to do it w/ little rest in between. It's tough to get to the Final Four. But based on the other teams in the field, the Jayhawks IMO are the best team out there right now. It's win it all or failed season IMO.
