I don't know about the "not sustainable" thing for Alex's style of play, though. It's been sustainable for his last 30 games or so. |

In his last 2 seasons under Harbaugh he has played 24 full games. He threw for NO TDs in 7 of those games. He threw for just 1 touchdown in 8 games. That's no more than 1 touchdown pass in over half his games. He got a LOT of help. He will need a LOT of help in order to be successful anywhere. He's getting that right now. |
It's sustainable if he has a top D.

He is also helping the defense by giving them long fields to defend and helping sustain drives at key moments late in games

Dude, it has nothing to do with any ass gotten. We're 3-0. Alex Smith is part of the reason why. *shrug* I ain't blind. |

The reality is, if you play sound defense, special teams and win the turnover battle, you can play conservative offense and win a lot of games in the NFL. Fans love the hi flying offense, I get it...it's fun to watch, but you still won't win if you don't play sound, all around team football. Alex Smith isn't flashy, but he protects the football, and seems to make the critical throws most of the time.

The thing that sets Alex Smith apart from every other Chiefs QB since Green in my view is that I don't have a sense of impending doom every time he drops back to pass.
