Because he didn’t. He lost a 5th round pick in value.

I liked you better when all you did was post news items.

I generally don’t like trading up unless it’s for a QB although I like McDuffie. Veach’s record on trade-ups is not great. He traded up for Breeland Speaks, Mecole Hardman, Bopete Keyes (possibly others I’m not thinking of). I think the analytics people don’t like trading up because you are decreasing your chances of hitting on a player. The less picks you have, the less opportunities you have to hit on a later-round gem like Hill (fifth round), Kelce (third round) or Snead (fourth round I think).

But this assumes that all drafts are created equal.

This draft did not have the top end talent other drafts did for various reasons including the pandemic.

Going up and getting one of the few first round grades was a masterstroke. Then getting another at 30 was sheer luck.

Usually if you're drafting that late in the first you don't have the opportunity to get top shelf guys and that's just normally. In a top end talent depleted draft it's even more unlikely.

Grade: A+

That’s a pretty ****ing dumb philosophy.

Also, that sample size is incredibly small, and Bopete Keyes was a late round pick, so you’re basically talking about 2. And Hardman is far from a bust.

Again, McDuffie was pretty much the last consensus 1st round talent available (because the NFL didn’t view Jermaine Johnson the way the media/experts/fans did). Would you have had the Chiefs stay out and get two 2nd round talents instead?

TambaBerry 05-07-2022 11:30 AM

Clearly Veach had him ranked a lot higher then the other DBs or else he wouldn't have traded. Sometimes you just have to trust your gm

staylor26 05-07-2022 11:31 AM

And the Chiefs still made 10 draft picks. 5 in the first 2 days, and 7 in the first 5 rounds. They had more than enough swings.

I’d be really curious to see the alternate reality where we don’t trade up just to find out what he would have done with the extra 3rd. Veach was knocking everything out of the park, so would the extra player be worth the downgrade in the first?

I’m inclined to think no given who was available at 29. But I’d still like to know

Exactly. It’s not like we didn’t have the most draft capital to work with. We even trade back and got a 5th rd pick LMAO

Kinda disappointing that McDuffie wasn’t abjj lol s to work anything out with Juan for 22. I guess he will need to wait a year.

suzzer99 05-07-2022 01:49 PM

He was drafted at 21. So he may want that permanently.

Skyy Moore with a hamstring injury… just be 100% by training camp.

Time to cut Cornell. His name is just simply not pleasing. The opposite of saying smoke Monday.
