- Shanahan does nothing - collects $7 million.
- Shanahan signs to coach Chiefs for $3.5 million - collects $7 million (Bowlen makes up the difference and their friendship is ruined)
- Shanahan signs to coach Chiefs for $7.5 million - collects $7.5 million (all from the Hunts, Bowlen grins and bears it)

Now, what's in it for Shanahan to take the second option?

Because football coaches don't sit on their ass and collect a paycheck. They didn't become football coaches to do that. They have the ego and the intensity to put competition AHEAD of money. Sure, they want to get paid, but they BECAME football coaches to compete.

I would also like for you to show me where Pat Bowlen said they wouldn't be friends anymore if he coached the Chiefs.

You would only do that to screw Bowlen. There is no other reason.

Shanahan doesn't hate Bowlen.

The Bad Guy 01-23-2009 10:36 PM

By Orange's logic, no fired coaches would ever work because they could just sit on their ass and collect a check.

What bullshit, flawed logic.

Shanahan also isn't tonguing his ass like you want us all to believe.

It's called self-interest, and it's what motivates human behavior.

Shanahan has every reason to screw Bowlen.

Again, I'm not saying that. I'm saying giving the Chiefs a DISCOUNT while sticking Bowlen for the rest of the $7 million will end their friendship. Don't you think so? You would be happy to pay someone to go work for your competitor?

Gee, maybe he's familiar with the division. Gee, maybe he enjoys coaching. Gee, maybe he and Bowlen aren't as close as you wish, otherwise please explain their being BFF and then being shitcanned by his BFF. Business is business, Bowlen PROVED that loud and clear to his BFF-did he not?

Sorry, Shanny doesn't owe his BFF a ****ing thing, in fact, knowing how competitive he is and what he's said about Pioli, I'd be surprised if Shanny doesn't take the job.

I think your posts are showing that you really just don't want this to happen, so you aren't using sound reasoning.

Taco John 01-23-2009 10:39 PM

The drunk just fired him. Why wouldn't he want to screw him over?

I don't think these rumors have merit based on what's been revealed at this point, but this idea that Shanahan has no reason to want to screw Bowlen... That just naive.

None whatsoever. .500 over the last three years. Revolving door DCs, with record bad defenses and seson-ending collapses. One playoff win in a decade.

That only keeps you employed in Kansas City.

Sure-Oz 01-23-2009 10:40 PM

So is shanny not coming here?? Since espn says a source says a deal is unlikely....

Shanahan had a contract.

Bowlen didn't honor the contract.

The way you talk, Shanahan should have given Bowlen a discount to coach because of their friendship.

Short answer...

Nobody has a clue.
