I'd take Berry over Thomas in an even transaction, but I still think Thomas is a top 10 player.

Thomas' first 2 years at Texas:
97 solo tackles, 10 INTs, 20 PBU

Berry's first two years at Tenn:
101 solo tackles, 12 INTS, 10 PBU.

Pioli better pull a 2003 Patriots draft out of his ass this year.

and the Chiefs by NFL talent do not have a good front 7. So we do need to put a safety in the box. Eric Berry has the talent to do that. He did it all last year on Tennessee's horrible defense.

I would trade down from the top ten everytime if I could. It's typically a gigantic waste of money.

You are wasting his talent putting him the box. If you are looking to solidify your run defense with a strong safety then take someone in the 2nd or 3rd. It's a deep class.

As would I, but this team needs so much help...
Would it kill us to get the 3rd best Safety in this class AND an impact LB BOTH in the First Round?

You could snag a Nose with that 2a pick (maybe)...
And by then you'd have significantly addressed the defense.
Opens that 2b pick up wide to just about anything.

Ditto.

We don't need 2 all pros to complete the team.

We need about 9 solid starters...

I'm not saying i'd draft Thomas over Berry either. I'm saying Thomas is an unerrated player on this board.

Bullshit. You need bonafide stars to win in the NFL.

You could make the argument had the Chiefs drafted Sanchez last year trading down in this draft would be the smart thing.

I agree. I am totally sold on Berry. Yet, I would take getting both Earl Thomas and, for example, a top RT or ILB for Berry. Yes we need playmakers. No, I don't want quantity over quality. I put to you all that quality still exists in the second round. It is not like anyone is saying trade down to collect 5 picks in rounds 4+. That is where you get part time players, back-ups, and such. No, you should get a starter every time in the first two rounds of this draft (if Pioli has any skill).

If Berry is a 9 (on a 1-10 scale), I think Thomas is maybe an 8. If you can also get a top three rated WR/ILB/RT/TE/OLB as well, you might have two pro Bowl players on your hands (maybe three if you get another high pick too), rather than one.

I'm also starting to think that Clausen is going to slide to #30. If so, let's use the extra picks to trade up out of round 2 to get pick #29 and snag him too.

No ****ing way.

If Clausen is sitting at #30, he'll be there at #36.

Indy won't take him, NO won't take him, the Rams won't take him, the Lions won't take him and the Bucs won't take him.

Why in the ****ing world would you give up your extremely valuable second round picks this year when there's absolutely no reason to do so?

No chance.

If he starts to tumble into the high teens, someone will move up to get him.

All moot, though, as he'll be off the board in the top 10.

michaelj_58 04-19-2010 02:34 PM

yes i would like to see the chiefs pick weatherspoon. not in the first round, i think he will go in the second but he is going to surprise a lot of people.
