Man,
I thought this year with Plumlee's progression they'd be more balanced. They just don't have much of a frontcourt - especially with Kelly playing near the perimeter more so than down low. Who was the last most effective post player for Duke? Shelden "Ninja Turtle Face" Williams? |
Duke peaked way too early. They really don't have a guy on the perimeter who can break you down and teams figured out to not help off Plumlee.
|
Puke must have hit the bars hard about 10:00 this morning. That is the most uninspired play I've seen in a long time. Maybe ever. Kazoo put the scrubs in and got them to stop the bleeding in the second half. We've had letdown games when we were #1. But GODDAMN.

Self on how McLemore can get better...
Ben needs to shoot more. We got to run stuff for him but he has also got to be more aggressive. He is not the most aggressive kid as far as putting himself in position. I was proud of him. That game didn't go great for him at first and he didn't do that much to start the second half but then he made some unbelievable athletic plays. |
Seth Greenberg on ESPN, "Right now when I think of Kansas, I think Kevin Young..."

Mario Chalmers to have jersey retired at halftime of Texas game By Staff Reports http://worldonline.media.clients.ell...6f48523261b548 Photo by Nick Krug Kansas guard Mario Chalmers elevates for a three-pointer in the remaining seconds of regulation Monday, April 7, 2008 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Chalmers swished the three to send the game into overtime. Former Kansas guard Mario Chalmers will have his No. 15 jersey retired at halftime of the ESPN College Gameday Texas at Kansas men’s basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 16, KU announced Thursday. Chalmers is most remembered for his game-tying three-pointer in KU’s 75-68 overtime win against Memphis in the 2008 national championship game. “Mario definitely deserves to have his jersey hung,” KU head coach Bill Self said. “He was the most outstanding player in a 2008 Final Four, which featured four No. 1 seeds. He was as clutch of a player as we’ve ever had here. He was a guy that seemed like the bigger the stage, the brighter he shined. He had an orneriness and toughness that a lot people didn’t see because they saw the smile. He was an assassin on the court.” Chalmers’ lists of accolades go much deeper. The Anchorage, Alaska, native was the 2007 co-Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and an All-Big 12 second team selection during his junior year. He appeared on the league’s all-conference teams all three seasons he was a Jayhawk, including every Big 12 All-Defensive squad. Besides his 2008 Final Four MOP, he was named to the Big 12 championship all-tournament team in 2007 and 2008, the second of which came after he scored a career-high 30 points against Texas in the title game. Chalmers led the Big 12 in steals with 97 in 2007 and 97 again in 2008, which are Kansas single-season records. During Chalmers’ three seasons, the Jayhawks were 95-16 (85.6 percent) with three Big 12 regular-season titles, three Big 12 postseason championships, two NCAA Elite Eight appearances, one Final Four and one national championship. “Mario cares about winning,” Self said. “Points are great and steals are great and he was the best stealer of the ball we’ve ever had here, but he cares about winning. Guys that play here understand that winning trumps everything and he understood that. Brandon (Rush) understood that, Shady (Darrell Arthur), Sherron (Collins), Sasha (Kaun), Darnell (Jackson), Russell (Robinson), they all understood that. That is what made that (2008) team so cool. There were games when Mario would take four shots in a game and I’d say, ‘Shoot the ball’ and he’d say ‘Why? Everybody else is making shots.’ It was such a fun team to be around, but he was clutch. Everybody throughout his tenure here would ask me who’s our go-to guy, and in our players’ minds there was never a doubt who our go-to guy was. There are not many guys out there, regardless of the school, that have held that distinction. Mario will be remembered for the shot, but I will remember him more for being a winner.” Selected 34th overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Chalmers was later traded to the Miami Heat. A two-time NBA Finals competitor, he joined elite company when his Miami Heat team won the 2012 NBA title. Chalmers joined former KU great Clyde Lovellette in becoming only the second Jayhawk to win both an NCAA and NBA title. “I’m proud of the career he has had since he left here,” Self said. “Being a world champion and a national champion, there’s not too many people that could have that distinction. He was an absolute treat to coach. He had great teammates and they all liked each other. It was such a fun time to be around. We’re all so proud of what he accomplished.” Chalmers becomes the second Jayhawk in the Bill Self era to have his jersey retired. Former KU consensus All-America selection Wayne Simien, who played at Kansas from 2002-05, had his No. 23 jersey retired during the 2010-11 season. I say they just keep it close until the end of the game so they can run "The Play" and see if we can nail the shot again. Shivers went down my spine during the KU Alum game where Chalmers came back and vs Pierce Chalmers AGAIN drilled it to win the game. Was a sight to see.

Richmond just beat VCU, nice little bump for that win.

That SI cover still brings me chills.

Arizona goes down at home to UCLA.
Lunardi's early line... @ESPNLunardi: Not doing a bracket this Friday, but, with Arizona going down, top line would be: Kansas/SOUTH, Michigan/MW, Syracuse/EAST and Indiana/WEST. |
Walton called that one of the best road wins for UCLA ever, or something of that nature.
Idiot. |

I thought they were going to be much better.
I like the trio of Lyons, Tarzcewski, and Johnson. They just don't play a whole lot of defense. |

Thought this was awesome...
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=172&f...t=11212597&p=1 Dear mizzou, It is with an enormous sense of abashed guilt that we, the Jayhawk Nation, reach out to you today. For years now, we've been enjoying what one would have to call a hearty guffaw at the many and varied and colorful conspiracy theories you've trotted out to explain away the vast chasm or gulf that exists between the accomplishments of your men's basketball program and that of ours. We always thought that was nothing more than a product of superior skill and hard work on the part of our coaches and players. Of course, you always told us otherwise; that the reason was actually attributable to a shadowy, sinister, Machiavellian network of nameless individuals in the Big 12 and the NCAA who gave us -- and us alone, among all the Big 12 and D1 institutions -- preferential treatment and looked the other way at our many sleazy, sordid, underhanded trangressions . Oh, yes, we all laughed at what we regarded as your delusional, dim-witted dementia. 'No collection of supposedly college educated adults could, with a straight face, possibly claim to believe such a puerile, sophomoric raft of ridiculous foolishness that would embarrass the intelligence of some addle-brained seventh-grader' was our general mindset over here. But laugh we can, no more. With this latest revelation in the NCAA's investigation into your coach, Frank Haith's, dealings while there in Miami, it is incumbent upon those of us who still cherish the qualities of honesty and truth to now come forward and admit that we can no longer deny what is now so transparent. That you were right all along. How is it possible for us to continue to deny the obvious -- that we have, indeed, set up a program to plant fans and graduates of our institution inside the NCAA and the Big 12? With financial restitution supplied to them from funds obtained through the 'Ticket Scandal'. It has been they who have paid off the Big 12 referees to give us 'all the calls' over these past 17 years. It was they who have allowed our coaches to bend and break the rules with total impunity. It was they who maliciously went after an innocent and trusting Norm Stewart and Quin Snyder and placed your program on probation without just cause. It was they who looked the other way when Ricky Clemons claimed he had accumulated 20 or 30 credit hours in one semester of summer school some years back. All with the plan to get him enrolled at your school and, later, bring epic embarrassment to it. It was they who put into place the program to deny your men's basketball team the 2012 men's basketball regular season championship on your way to the Southeast Conference. It was they who were responsible for placing your team in the West Regional last year and pairing you up with Norfolk State, while allowing us a free run to the Final Four and the title game. There are, of course, many more such disturbing revelations. And they'll be certain to come out later. Magnanimity is one of mankind's most noble qualities, Tiger fans. So, at this time, I call upon my fellow Jayhawk fans here on Phog.net to now humbly ask for you to search your collective consciences and forgive us for what our avarice and moral turptitude has wrought upon your basketball program. Very truly yours, IchabodSlipp |

Cuse goes down at Villanova. Second top 5 victory of the week for Nova.
|
So, I was just taking a poop and wondered:
McLemore has a shot at being the #1 overall pick in the NBA draft. I'd hate that. But, damn the kid's smooth. Since B-Mac who was the most NBA ready kid to come to KU? Granted, he had a RS season which did nothing but help, obviously. Would it be Paul Pierce? Anyone remember his freshman year? |
Siva is the dumbest player in the nation.
|
Pulling for Iowa State today. Helps KU if ISU gives KSU a second loss. ISU already has 2.
|
Going to the game this afternoon, having a ore game meal at Jefferson's as we speak
Good day |

Wow. Another top 5 team goes down. Louisville with their third straight loss.
|
Louisville with its thrid straight loss. Otto Porter is a F-ing man, think KU finished 2nd in his recruiting.

I'd also expect OSU to show themselves as the B12 #2 as the season goes along. Other than Baylor, they have the most talent and they also have an elite defense to play with in a tough home environment. |
Rio Adams completely out of control there on the break. Thinks he's McLemore or something.
|
Man if we could only shoot...even bunnies.
|
On the other hand, it's really great to have Withey...Many defensive wow moments.
|
I love that this team can win with Defense. I would however like to see the offense start clicking.
|
Self needs to keep these guys after practice and SHOOOOOOOOTTTTTT for like three hours.
|
EJ playing like shit again...
Cant remember the last time he had a good game. |
I hate to say this, but KU is one of the worst teams in the country at closing out the first half. Luckily, they're one of the better teams at finishing in the second.
|
Yeah, maybe don't make 8 turnovers next half. That might help building a lead. KU could be up by 15+ right now, but kept them in the game with bad offensive execution.
|
I get so tired of watching this team throw the outlet pass that isn't there......
|
YAY WE HIT A 3!!!
|
OU remains right in the game. We're really throwing the bricks up today (2 for 10 from three). Imagine if we made a few of these open shots.
