Today is (hopefully) the last day of my spring work season. I have eaten relatively well, never as good as I want but much better than in the past. I've been walking quite a bit, roughly in the neighborhood of 6-8 miles/day, broken up into at least two sessions daily, so I get something in early and something in late. This is much better than I've managed in the past while busy; normally I'd get in maybe 2 miles/day. And I'm running again. The new shoes seem to be working fine, I've had minimal problems so far, through 6 running sessions. I'm back onto week 5 of c25k, which is a bit more of a challenge now that it's warm. This morning at 7:15 it was 80 degrees with 80% humidity - not a whole lot of fun, but evenings are worse. I seem to be able to handle the temperatures better than I could in the past, though, so it's not quite the ordeal these days that it once was.
Weight-wise, I'm currently somewhere in the 211-213 range, dropping steadily toward 210, which is the lightest I've been since I began recording in 2008, and possibly the lightest I've been in the last 8-10 years. That means I've lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 17 pounds since January 1, and about 1.5% body fat since January 15 (first day I had the scale for that...). I'm trying to avoid "what if's" and focus on the progress, but eating poorly and exercising rarely from mid-February to early May has kept these first 6 months of 2010 from being quite as successful and satisfying as they could have been. But all-in-all, I'm heading in the right direction. I may reach 210 by July 1st, which would be pretty nice - hard to call losing @20 pounds in 6 months a failure, really - and I'm down about 30 pounds now since January 1, 2009, when I was 243. |

Well Silock a little bit of bad news. Last night was the second time I've woke up during the middle of the night with knee pain. I had to get up and pop a couple aspirin. This has occurred both times on my heavy leg day. (Squat 5x5 and Deads 5x5) is this to taxing on the knees (50 total heavy reps of squats/deads)?

Pretty awesome workout today. School is out so I decided to detour my normal route and run around the high school campus right down the street from my house. I got around to the backside of the campus heading back up and saw two 30-40' stairwells across from each other. I jogged over there and sprinted up and down, back and forth on those 5 times and then ran home. It was different, and my lungs were burning when I was done, so it was great.
My big thing right now is I like to gas the shit out of myself, and then regain my lung power WHILE running. I see a lot of people gas themselves and then jump off the treadmill or walk until they catch their breath, but I'm trying to make sure that I can gas it, and then continue running while catching my breath. I probably sound like a reerun, but I think you guys are picking up what I'm laying down. I have so much more fun running outdoors than I do inside. I used to prefer the treadmill, but that's because I was learning how to run. Now that I have a great base built I find myself longing to go outdoors to do it more and more. |
Man, I would love to run with you, Floppy. You are hardcore. You see shit and you take it on. You're like a heatseeking missile. You're a predator, and you hunt body fat.

I have been a lot better about warming up lately. I know you hate it, but P90X got me started doing that. I used to just get right into it. That's some good stuff there, dude. |
I talked myself out of skipping. I did back & biceps over lunch. I'll hit my abs when I get home.

Yeah, it takes me a good 15-20 minutes to get really warmed up these days. |
