Oh, nothing yet. Just 20 minutes after I said it doesn't seem like they have this under control there are reports a meltdown might happen.

It should be noted that a meltdown doesn't necessarily mean that any radiation would be released outside, assuming the integrity of the containment building.

Yeah I definitely understand that. Twitter has blown up in the last couple minutes with reports out of Japan that the element cesium has been detected which may mean a meltdown is occuring.

I definitely get the whole concept that the building is built to protect the outside world from this stuff... but if there is a meltdown, what about the people working in the facility?

The doses considered "safe" are really just those with the most palatable risk. If radiation was 1000x regular levels in the control room, as reported, those people are going to die of cancer.
