This probably wouldn't be Pioli's decision to make.

I think Pioli could certainly be a block but I don't think for that reason. He may not go after him because he would have to "over pay" ect but I doubt he is worried about giving somebody the keys. They did just that in NE. How can it be against his philosophy when that was their philosophy in NE. I can see him not going after him, but I don't think it will be out of fear of how powerful Manning is.

In my opinion, Manning would be crazy to consider the Chiefs. Yeah, they have a big-time halfback in Jamaal Charles (coming off a torn ACL), a potential star in talented wideout Dwayne Bowe and some good players on defense, but there are plenty of reasons for Manning not to come to K.C. The first is the presence of newly hired offensive coordinator Brian Daboll – ask the Browns’ Colt McCoy how he thinks Manning might enjoy playing for such a coach. Another is general manager Scott Pioli, whose control-freak tendencies likely wouldn’t allow for a quarterback who desires near autonomy. (If nothing else Manning, were he to sign with the Chiefs, should keep his cell-phone number a secret.) I’m sure Manning is also thrilled that Pioli decided to waive veteran offensive lineman Brian Waters before the 2011 season. Waters jumped to the Patriots and made the Pro Bowl blocking for Tom Brady. Bottom line: I don’t see Manning in a Chiefs uniform, at all.

1- fair enough point on Charles, he may not be quite the same this year... we Must have a good backup.

2- potential star in Bowe? this shit is getting old... lead the league in touchdowns? not there yet, 1000+ three out of five years? nope not good enough yet... and he achieved it all with dumb & dumber throwing him the ball, get real & start paying attention to the entire NFL, you pud

3- yeah, ask some guy who sucks how good Manning might be with Daboll... 'well i was terrible under him & Peyton will be too'

4- as for Pioli's so called 'control freak tendencies'... yeah, he might have there.

How is waiting a month and a half not dragging it out? Free Agency is going to be done and over by the time of the draft. If teams are still waiting to make big splashes in April in FA then he certainly has caused them to hold on moves.

Thats going to be the interesting part. A lot of teams may not be able to make big moves plus Manning. If you have to wait on Manning you may miss out on the other guys.

Yeah, but the thing is, Clark is typically a hands off owner. That's what kinda worries me. Im not sure if he'd the same way in this situation knowing that Manning is available.

I just don't see that being the issue. Pioli's way is the Bellichek way, which is the Tom Brady way. He has been blinded by Cassel's situation because of his ego to be right about the trade. Thats a different type of ego than one in which you don't want another big dog around.

Pioli may not do it because he is stupid enough to still believe in Cassel. I don't think he avoids it out of fear of how big a personality Manning is. To me thats like saying if Pioli had his way he would have either taken Brady down a few pegs or gotten rid of him. I just don't think thats a factor.

The Chiefs are not a "sexy" team. You could see 298570198471570198247590475 ESPN stories on the Patriots and Cowboys before you'd find a piece on the Chiefs. The news of Dwayne Bowe getting tagged was overshadowed 5 minutes later by how loose Jerry Jones last shit was.

The Dolphins, Redskins, and Jets are all "sexy" teams in big name markets, so of course they'll be the "frontrunners" and they'll build those teams up as much as possible.

...and it boggles the mind on how anyone can say the Dolphins are more Super Bowl ready than the Chiefs.

The thing is proving the media wrong is one of the best feelings a player or fan can have. I am a Yankees fan and a Devils fan and being the underdog is a much better feeling when you win. The Chiefs have just failed to feel that for well, almost ever.

Zorn would have Stanzi full time
& Peyton could just tell him to shut the **** up when he talks about Dr Laura

I hope thats all true, how could they pass this chance up, right?

Every gleaming star seems aligned in its favor...

Im trying not to get my hopes up either. In the end I still want to see an effort to find a QBOTF but I will take it if they get Manning. I am not sure they will go after him, atleast not hard enough.

All this talk is great, but who here REALLY believes Peyton will ever start a game for the Chiefs? I know I don't, no matter how much I think it makes sense.

I've been a fan of this team for just too long to feel any other way. Nothing ever goes right for us in the end. It's our lot in life as Chiefs fans to endure the "Almost, but Not Quite" mantra.

I'm not putting money on it. If Pioli was all in I think our chances are damn good, but that 'if' is a mighty big one, too big.
