Yeah. He ended up being a massive disappointment there. I bet he wishes he could have had four years of coaching under Kuligowski and a coaching staff that treated him like a human being.

Just another example of a highly ranked Missouri kid getting stars in his eyes and not having things work out for him in the end.

For every Ezekiel Elliott and Laurence Maroney, there are 5+ Pipkins, Dan Tapkos, Ronnie Wingo Jrs, Nick Pattersons, etc.

Titans long-snapper hits hole-in-one, wins barrel of Jack Daniels

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-...f-jack-daniels

What's better than hitting a hole-in-one? Hitting a hole-in-one and having someone give you an entire barrel of whiskey for it. Welcome to the dream, Beau Brinkley. The Titans long snapper recently sunk an ace while playing golf and as a result he's going to claim a prize of AN ENTIRE BARREL of Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select.

A whole barrel! Brinkley was playing in a Nashville tournament where Jack was a sponsor, so he knew there were some stakes involved where he could hit a hole-in-one and win a mammoth prize.

But when he stepped up to the 182-yard Par 3 he didn't plan on soaking in whiskey for the next year (or four).

"You could see the flag but you couldn't see the hole," Brinkley told ESPN after hitting the ace. "After I hit it, it felt really good. Probably the most accurate golf shot I've ever hit.

"Walked up there ... I kind of creeped in, saw it and just went crazy. Threw my hat, chest-bumped all my teammates."

A full barrel of whiskey is appromixately 250 bottles (!) of Jack and Brinkley gets to head over to Lynchberg, Tennessee and pick out samples from the Jack Daniels Distillery to claim his barrel.

Rough offseason for Brinkley.

Justin Smith may join University of Missouri coaching staff

After taking a few months to contemplate his future, defensive end Justin Smith told the 49ers that he wouldn’t be returning to the field for the 2015 season.

His next step may not take him too far away from a football team, however. University of Missouri coach Gary Pinkel said at Wednesday’s installment of the SEC media days that Smith may join the team’s coaching staff. Pinkel said that Smith would work with players on conditioning if he does come aboard.

“I think he wants to get involved in the weight room a little bit with our players and help us out,” Pinkel said, via NFL.com. “That would be great if he can do that. He would be a tremendous asset to us. He’s from Jefferson City, the state capital, about 25 miles south of Columbia. He’s going to be living right in Columbia and we’d love to have him come back. I talked to Andy Hill, who recruited him, our quarterback coach, and we’ll see.”

Smith played three years at Missouri before becoming the fourth overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft.

Brantley out for the year. We all knew it but it was confirmed by GP yesterday. Said he was lucky to be alive.

I'm concerned about the 2015 season at this point...

No Brantley and no Loud has me concerned about the DL, which is rather unfortunate considering how good I think the back 7 on D is going to be.

The nice thing, I guess, is that I think Barry Odom is a lot more creative about generating pressure, based on his work at Memphis, and the blitzes they showed in the spring were a lot more effective than anything we've seen at Mizzou under Pinkel (and apparently those were the 'vanilla' looks).

But that DL has gotten thin. I was confident DT would at least be a strength with Brantley, August and Hatley forming a strong top 3. That looks like a tougher gig now.

Depth at DE is now terrifyingly slim. Hopefully Harris and Frazier can give some good production, and they can find at least one bench guy who can produce.

Pair that with concerns about WR and Mauk in general, and it could become a "disappointing" season pretty quickly.

RE: Justin Smith...

I'd expect his "event coordinating" will involve showing up to do some unofficial recruiting work at recruiting events (he's involved, the host of the recruit visits, which allows him to interact with recruits as much as he wants). It's a clever way to get another selling point on staff without making him an official football team staff member.

Similar to what OSU does with Stacey Elliott, only more legit, since he's an actual employee and not a dad (who has all the time in the world off of work to be on-campus and spend hours talking to other recruits and parents).

I'm with you. We are likely going to take a big step back this year. The schedule is kind of strange this year. Nearly every game is winnable, but nearly every game is losable. If we lost to BYU and Arkansas State, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. Of course, we could beat both of them and Arkansas and grab at least a share of the East again, and I wouldn't be shocked.

With WR being such a huge question mark, the season could go either way. Personally, I'm expecting a bit of a letdown season. Not a losing season, but I don't expect we'll win the East again. 8 wins.

How many times during games this year will the TV crew talk about Mizzou's D-Line and then show a picture of Brantley's car wreck?

Every game.

kcchiefsus 07-16-2015 09:44 AM

This is just the type of shit that happens to this team. You'll probably never see Alabama or Auburn lose one of their best players to an accident right before the season, but it sure as hell happens to us.

Is BYU supposed to be good this year?

I don't know how good they will be, but if Hill is healthy, they're a very dangerous team.

'Hamas' Jenkins 07-16-2015 05:20 PM

I'm expecting 7-5 this year. The skill positions are as weak as they've been since Gabbert's Junior year, and our DL is now thin and inexperienced.

It just seems like a lot of dominos are falling the wrong way. Some of it is also reaping the rewards from the awful 2012 and 2013 recruiting classes, though.
