Wade Davis ranked as top relief pitcher in majors by MLB Network
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt...e58621233.html No one really need confirmation on this, right? The MLB Network has been doing rankings of various positions (“Top 10 Right Now!”) and it got to relief pitchers. Atop the list: Wade Davis of the Royals. Davis was 8-1 with 17 saves and a 0.94 ERA last season. He was an All-Star, finished sixth in the Cy Young Award voting and 28th in MVP voting. Davis had a 0.79 WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched). He struck out 10.4 batters per nine innings. In 2014, Davis had a 1.00 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP and struck out 13.6 batters per nine innings. The MLB Network special notes that Davis has the lowest opposing batting average (.148) and ERA (0.97) over the last two years. “That’s the lowest two-year ERA in the history of the game,” MLB Network’s Brian Kenny said. “He deserves to be No. 1.” Here is the top 10 1. Wade Davis, Royals 2. Dellin Betances, Yankees 3. Aroldis Chapman, Yankees 4. Andrew Miller, Yankees 5. Zach Britton, Orioles 6. Mark Melancon, Pirates 7. Ken Giles, Astros 8. Tony Watson, Pirates 9. Darren O’Day, Orioles 10. Craig Kimbrel, Red Sox You can watch as the top two relief pitchers are unveiled during the MLB Network broadcast: |

In 2015 the Giants did not visit the White House until the first week in June.
I assume a White House visit would be at the same time the Royals are on an east coast trip. Kansas City Royals have a 4 game series with the New York Yankees May 9 - May 12 and a 3 game series with the Baltimore Orioles June 6 - June 8. KC has one day off on June 9 before they fly to Chicago for a series with the White Sox. June 9th might be the White House Trip. Jonny Gomes was asked the other day if he would come back from Japan and wear his American flag jacket for a trip to the White House. He said that the team (Boston Red Sox?) signed it and it had been donated, so he no longer had it. |

Should be a great bullpen. |
I've been following the Caribbean Series because Royals outfielder Jose Martinez is playing in it for Venezuela.
In 5 games so far, Jose is batting .524, 1 HR, and 7 RBIs. I'm really interested to see what Martinez looks like in spring training. I've asked this question on here before...have any of you seen him play the outfield? I've seen some video of his hitting and his .384 average in Omaha looks promising. He is a slender 6'7" and I just wonder what he looks like in the field. |
Eibner will also be someone to follow.

I'm soooo ready for baseball. I miss it. It's like I had a girlfriend that is a 10... and she left me for 3 months... and she's not coming back for another month.

I can't find anything about a scheduled 2016 White House trip for the Kansas City Royals. BUT San Francisco Giants won in 2014 - June 4, 2015 White House trip - off day before @ Philadelphia Phillies series. Boston Red Sox won in 2013 - April 1, 2014 White House trip - off day during @ Baltimore Orioles series. San Francisco Giants won in 2012 - July 29, 2013 White House trip - off day before @ Philadelphia Phillies series. St. Louis Cardinals won in 2011 - January 17, 2012 White House trip - Only recent off-season meeting at White House. San Francisco Giants won in 2010 - July 25, 2011 White House trip - off day before @ Philadelphia Phillies series. New York Yankees won in 2009 - April 26, 2010 White House trip - off day before @ Baltimore Orioles series. So for the past few years only the St. Louis Cardinals White House visit has been during the off-season. |
I think the logical choice would be the Baltimore series (June 6-8) and the off day on June 9th will be the WH visit before they leave to Chicago.

I won't paste in all the text, but CBS opens up its power rankings with us at #2 (behind the Cubs). Read it all at the link below.

I got an e-mail about a Class Action Settlement involving MLB.TV...looks like a new option will be available for those of us "out of market" guys that we can just follow Royals games and get all their games for $85 for the season. Great deal!
|
Duncan, how does Law's list of prospects compare to yours?

I don't have the article up anymore, but as a general summary he had 2 Royals in his top 100. Mondesi around 70 and Zimmer around 85 I believe.
Said Mondesi had a throwaway year with the back injury and then an awful season at the plate. Defense and speed ML ready. Kinda the same about Zimmer. Mentioned that IF he stays healthy, he's still ace potential with 3 above avg offerings. Had some late success last season, but probably be limited in innings again this year until he proves health for a longer period. |

I haven't looked at Law's, but my top 20 (with August comments on the prospects) is in the OP. |

Seems like a fair deal for Moustakas and glad it is done.
Will be interesting to see what happens with Holland at this point. Rest of the roster is set... Wonder if they work a two-year deal with a team option or something like that for him. |
Not really Royals related but I thought it was interesting.
I Read the Entire Collective Bargaining Agreement and Here's What I Learned. The whole column is interesting but the stuff in the "I did not know these things." section I liked the best. Quote:

Anyone now if a player has come out of retirement in Aug-Sept to join a team before?

Just a guess because I dont know but if anyone did I would say Roger Clemens.

That would've been a good strategy to use by a crafty coach.

Got the email this afternoon about the MLB.TV court settlement over the antitrust issue.
The base package will drop to $109.99. If you want to pick an individual team, it's $84.99. MLB also has to reach agreements for 'in-market' streaming for every team by 2017, or they can't raise the price until 2020. Comcast/DirecTV have to offer Extra Innings at a 12.5% discount too, and MLB will provide them the opportunity to sell individual team packages too, but they aren't obligated to sell them to their customers. There's also supposed to be a "follow your team" option, which should help reduce blackouts. It seems a bit confusing... but basically if you have cable and are blacked out of seeing the Royals, you can buy MLB.TV and pay an extra $10 for "follow your team" and you'd get the games. If I'm understanding it right, anyway. |
Can't wait for opening day! Here's a couple of gifs I just made.
