Royals release RHP Coleman

I really had hope for Louis Coleman too. In Omaha last season, 38 games, 64 innings, 8-2 record, and 1.69 ERA. It just seems like a player with those kind of stats would be something you could work with.

It will be interesting to see what team picks him up.

Wade Davis ranked as top relief pitcher in majors by MLB Network
http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt...e58621233.html

No one really need confirmation on this, right?

The MLB Network has been doing rankings of various positions (“Top 10 Right Now!”) and it got to relief pitchers.

Atop the list: Wade Davis of the Royals.

Davis was 8-1 with 17 saves and a 0.94 ERA last season. He was an All-Star, finished sixth in the Cy Young Award voting and 28th in MVP voting. Davis had a 0.79 WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched). He struck out 10.4 batters per nine innings.

In 2014, Davis had a 1.00 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP and struck out 13.6 batters per nine innings.

The MLB Network special notes that Davis has the lowest opposing batting average (.148) and ERA (0.97) over the last two years.

“That’s the lowest two-year ERA in the history of the game,” MLB Network’s Brian Kenny said. “He deserves to be No. 1.”

Here is the top 10

1. Wade Davis, Royals

2. Dellin Betances, Yankees

3. Aroldis Chapman, Yankees

4. Andrew Miller, Yankees

5. Zach Britton, Orioles

6. Mark Melancon, Pirates

7. Ken Giles, Astros

8. Tony Watson, Pirates

9. Darren O’Day, Orioles

10. Craig Kimbrel, Red Sox

You can watch as the top two relief pitchers are unveiled during the MLB Network broadcast:

In 2015 the Giants did not visit the White House until the first week in June.

I assume a White House visit would be at the same time the Royals are on an east coast trip.

Kansas City Royals have a 4 game series with the New York Yankees May 9 - May 12 and a 3 game series with the Baltimore Orioles June 6 - June 8. KC has one day off on June 9 before they fly to Chicago for a series with the White Sox.

June 9th might be the White House Trip.

Jonny Gomes was asked the other day if he would come back from Japan and wear his American flag jacket for a trip to the White House. He said that the team (Boston Red Sox?) signed it and it had been donated, so he no longer had it.

Wilson8 02-06-2016 09:00 PM

I've been following the Caribbean Series because Royals outfielder Jose Martinez is playing in it for Venezuela.

In 5 games so far, Jose is batting .524, 1 HR, and 7 RBIs.

I'm really interested to see what Martinez looks like in spring training.

I've asked this question on here before...have any of you seen him play the outfield?

I've seen some video of his hitting and his .384 average in Omaha looks promising.

He is a slender 6'7" and I just wonder what he looks like in the field.

Great Expectations 02-06-2016 09:10 PM

Eibner will also be someone to follow.

I'm guessing it's because a good amount of the players return to Latin America (or Japan, Korea, etc) and it would be difficult to coordinate an event with the entire roster in the offseason. It's much easier to bring the team along when they're in the area already.

Oh the Internet is a curse and a wonderful thing...

I can't find anything about a scheduled 2016 White House trip for the Kansas City Royals.

BUT

San Francisco Giants won in 2014 - June 4, 2015 White House trip - off day before @ Philadelphia Phillies series.

Boston Red Sox won in 2013 - April 1, 2014 White House trip - off day during @ Baltimore Orioles series.

San Francisco Giants won in 2012 - July 29, 2013 White House trip - off day before @ Philadelphia Phillies series.

St. Louis Cardinals won in 2011 - January 17, 2012 White House trip - Only recent off-season meeting at White House.

San Francisco Giants won in 2010 - July 25, 2011 White House trip - off day before @ Philadelphia Phillies series.

New York Yankees won in 2009 - April 26, 2010 White House trip - off day before @ Baltimore Orioles series.

So for the past few years only the St. Louis Cardinals White House visit has been during the off-season.

Coach 02-07-2016 01:42 PM

I think the logical choice would be the Baltimore series (June 6-8) and the off day on June 9th will be the WH visit before they leave to Chicago.

The Royals answered:

Wow...how far we have come from the Tony Muser days. I mean this team was on life support and now they are cool again and actually doing cool things like this. It is great that the team I grew up with is using this time to reintroduce themselves to the fans and get a whole new legion of kids to love the team. Those late 70s and 80s teams sold me on being a Royals fan and now my son is True Blue and I could not be more excited to make a ton of memories with him..

I don't have the article up anymore, but as a general summary he had 2 Royals in his top 100. Mondesi around 70 and Zimmer around 85 I believe.

Said Mondesi had a throwaway year with the back injury and then an awful season at the plate. Defense and speed ML ready.

Kinda the same about Zimmer. Mentioned that IF he stays healthy, he's still ace potential with 3 above avg offerings. Had some late success last season, but probably be limited in innings again this year until he proves health for a longer period.

I'd just like to know how many birthday parties KC Connection is going to for the MLB playoffs.

I'll be at quite a few spring training games this year. Hit me up if you wanna get Bill Cosby'd.

It's amazing really. Hopefully he can extend that goodwill to get Moose signed beyond those next two years.

Seems like a fair deal for Moustakas and glad it is done.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Holland at this point. Rest of the roster is set... Wonder if they work a two-year deal with a team option or something like that for him.

Not really Royals related but I thought it was interesting.

I Read the Entire Collective Bargaining Agreement and Here's What I Learned.

The whole column is interesting but the stuff in the "I did not know these things." section I liked the best.

Quote:

  • Retired players aren’t allowed to come out of retirement and join a team in August or September.
  • The postseason shares are voted on by a team before the postseason.
  • The manager (and only the manager) is allowed to address the team before the postseason shares are voted on.
  • A club can carry 24 players if it wants to. (It may not carry 23 or fewer.)
  • A player can’t change his shoes once he has begun running the bases.
  • Players must be provided two uniforms (but not shoes!), and must return the uniforms when they leave the team.
  • A player may not change jersey numbers midseason unless he agrees to buy all the remaining jerseys with the old number on them.
  • The MLBPA and the owners share the cost of translating documents into Spanish.
  • Players have a right to a second opinion on anything the team doctor says, and first-class travel to get that second opinion, but it must be from a doctor on the team-provided list of second-opinion doctors. If the player wants a second (or third) opinion from a different doctor, he must pay for it (and the first-class travel) himself.
  • Players must, with the implementation of this most recent CBA, submit to oral health exams.

I liked this one too - Every player who does an initial physical examination has to tell his new club whether he is missing his eyes.

Or his nuts!

I wonder how many players have answered yes to this one. Josh Donaldson? :hmmm:

Anyone now if a player has come out of retirement in Aug-Sept to join a team before?

srvy 02-12-2016 12:06 PM

Just a guess because I dont know but if anyone did I would say Roger Clemens.

Fairplay 02-12-2016 12:24 PM

That would've been a good strategy to use by a crafty coach.

Got the email this afternoon about the MLB.TV court settlement over the antitrust issue.

The base package will drop to $109.99. If you want to pick an individual team, it's $84.99. MLB also has to reach agreements for 'in-market' streaming for every team by 2017, or they can't raise the price until 2020. Comcast/DirecTV have to offer Extra Innings at a 12.5% discount too, and MLB will provide them the opportunity to sell individual team packages too, but they aren't obligated to sell them to their customers.

There's also supposed to be a "follow your team" option, which should help reduce blackouts. It seems a bit confusing... but basically if you have cable and are blacked out of seeing the Royals, you can buy MLB.TV and pay an extra $10 for "follow your team" and you'd get the games. If I'm understanding it right, anyway.
