I don't get it. We've lived through Sutton and Greg Robinson. Our defense is not top 5 but people are acting like we're the 2003 Chiefs. We basically shut their offense down for the first 3 quarters except for one drive where we gave up a massive kickoff return. That's pretty good for any playoff game.

Chiefs defense was fine. Special teams cost the team 10 points. I understand that there are times that teams take chances and a DE vs WR1 is going to lose when the QB has time to make a play. What concerns me is that other teams seem to know what is coming and block.

I honestly didn't even read further, but it somehow got worse.

Two shitty franchises almost ended Mahomes, the Jags and the Browns.

Both of those teams are loaded with first round talent. The margin for error is slim in the NFL. Injuries happen, the ankle injury was unfortunate today and better OL play would have prevented it IMO.

That still doesn't make it a good defensive play call. IDGAF about zone blitz, blitz scheme, etc. A defensive back is better in coverage than a DE, and a DE is a better pass rusher than a defensive back.

No amount of scheming will change that.

I have always said that my problem with Spags is he puts his player in positions where they have no chance to win on a given play.

Karlaftis will never, never succeed in covering a WR like that, unless the receiver literally falls down at the LOS.

The defense gained exactly ZERO advantage from that defensive play call.

Kirk dropped a bomb, that he absolutely should have caught, and the Jags get 3 points at a minimum.

The Jags fumble inside the 5 yard line, or they get a minimum of 3 points.

But, let's face it, we are a very bad red zone defense, so they probably score touchdowns on both of those drives.

But, once again, somehow Spags gets credit for unforced mistakes by the other team.

However, I will give Spags credit with the pressures he drew up down the stretch. They didn't hang any player out to dry, and the Jags seemed unprepared for them.

Lol, Spags unit was the steadiest of the three in this game, they held JAX to just 20 points, 4 less than their season average (meaning that our defense is actually better than NFL average), less than 33% scoring/drive, 31% in the 2nd half, and won the T/O battle.

Not a bad call. We ran a zone blitz. Karlaftis' assignment was to drop back into a zone (coverage). Pederson schemed and called that play at the perfect time. He had a WR in at RB.... a DE will rarely win that matchup. Great scheme, great call, perfectly executed.

Question is do we have a tendency that the Jags exploited there? Did we not recognize the personnel, and if we did, why didn't we call an audible or timeout?

My bet is when they get in the film room they will point out the great play call. by Jax, and ask the same questions (and a bunch more, I'm sure).

Buddy Ryan had a lot of success running the 4-6 with the 84-86 Bears. That doesn't mean the 4-6 is the best defense for our personnel.
